New Pokemon games were announced 2 days ago. Here's the "trailer" (absolutely no gameplay):

What you can see of the conceptual stuff at the end looks a little interesting. You can see what appear to be an ambulance (mobile Pokemon center!?) and a fire truck with Blastoise on the back. But it would have been nice if they, y'know, actually had some gameplay to show. Anyway, I'm pretty glad they're skipping "Z" cause 6th gen kinda sucked. Hopefully they can do better this time.

I'm guessing we'll get proper info and screens near E3 (probably like 1-2 weeks beforehand in some Japanese kids' magazine).

Any other Pokemon fans here? Anyone else excited for this somehow even though we know next to nothing about it?

I'm not a big Pokemon fan so I'm more curious than excited at this point. The titles sound nice at least (much better than X/Y). I hope the new pokemon designs are good.

Shouldn't be too hard to top the most recent Pokemon. There are always duds in every new batch of Pokemon, but I think X/Y takes the cake for least appealing bunch yet. This dude looks just about ready to take on X and Zero at the end of a stage:

And some of the mega evolutions look downright silly (some are awesome though).

Anyway, if X/Y are any indication, they're moving towards introducing fewer and fewer new Pokemon with each generation, and that's fine by me since we're closing in on 1000 now.

I didn't play Pokemon when I was a kid, weirdly enough, but since I got a New 3DS about a year ago, I've been totally on board the Pokemon train; between Y, Alpha Sapphire and my current play-through of Platinum, I've probably clocked somewhere around 300 hours into Pokemon. So I'm very excited by the prospect of a new game. Really it's the cherry on top of what I'm anticipating to be one of the best years for video games in recent memory. I only wish they'd shown off SOMETHING about Sun and Moon aside from the titles.

Also I've got my fingers crossed for a Sandslash mega evolution in the upcoming games. Sandslash could use some more love.

For the love of god, play Heart Gold or Soul Silver if you get the chance. Absolutely the best Pokemon games in my opinion. Alternatively it may be worth it to try Red/Blue/Yellow now that they're on the eshop, if you're up for something a little more old school (and, to be honest, more bare-bones... but still fun!) than what you've played so far. Just to see where the series started and all. And also because gen 1 has one of the most amazing features in the entire series, one I can only wish carried on to future games: the bike theme doesn't end when you enter a new route.

Don't worry, I already have a copy of HeartGold and it's next on my list after Platinum. :D After that, if I haven't burnt myself out on Pokemon yet, I'll probably pick up Blue. It's great that Nintendo finally put them on the eShop.

Get Yellow instead and know the suffering of being walled by the first gym leader. :D

New trailers:

I'm pretty surprised. I didn't think they'd put the full character models on the field. That's actually one of the things I was hoping for most. X/Y and ORAS looked fine from the overhead perspective, but whenever you got closeups of the characters they looked like creepy bobble-head dolls. Also all the starters look good right off the bat for once. Usually I don't think the new Pokemon look good for a while and then I warm up to them, but I actually like all 5 of the new ones they've shown so far. I really like the water seal guy cause of how derpy he looks. Probably gonna choose him. I also thought it was cool how the spikes on the cat thing's back pop up when it attacks. And I'm totally getting sun for that sick lion dude.

Anyway, I'm keeping my expectations in check for now. If the character at 1:16 in the first video is the rival, then it looks like it's going to be another "best friend" type of character instead of an actual rival like in Gold and Silver or BW2. Also the region looks pretty small. I know there's gonna be more islands (cause it's Hawaii), but it still looks pretty small based on the footage of the characters running compared to the overhead shot of the map. Though I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Edit: Oh! And since Nintendo/Game Freak/Pokemon Company might be feeling a bit of that Yokai Watch pressure, I'm thinking the game might be a bit more open-ended than the linear paths that were gen 5 and 6!

I have to admit I disliked the new starters on the first sight, but now I warmed up to them. I actually think they're some of the better looking starters in the series. But I wonder what their evolutions will look like. Some fans have noticed that they have a circus theme, so it'll be interesting to see what the designers come up with. I just hope there's no weird-ass furry witch this time.

The fire legendary is weak to...fire...
Yeah, not sure how that thing is steel type, haha.

Anyway, loving what I'm seeing of this so far. Looks great! I guess the Rotom Pokedex is supposed to be their answer to the ghost from Yokai Watch.

A page on the official site suggests that they're forgoing the traditional routes and that now specific Pokemon appear in specific patches of grass. And that makes a lot of sense just given how the region is laid out and all. Or maybe I'm just overthinking things.

Pokemon Sun/Moon Help You Track Down Pokemon With QR Codes
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/pokemon-sunmoon-help-you-track-down-pokemon-with-q/1100-6440436/

Pokemon Sun and Moon's Legendaries and gameplay were revealed today, and now we know the details of the announced QR code feature, thanks to the game's official website. The 3DSuses its built-in camera to scan the codes, which then give you information about Pokemon via your in-game Pokedex.

The QR code scanner can be used to find out where Pokemon live in the Alola region. This can be useful for players who haven't yet caught the scanned Pokemon and need to find out where to look for them. QR codes can be shared, as you're able to display the code of any Pokemon you've already caught for other players to see.

The upcoming Sun and Moon's Legendary Pokemon include Solgaleo, who uses a move called Sunsteel Strike that has them charge "at an opponent with the force of a meteor," and Lunala, who shoots an "ominous beam of light" called Moongeist Beam.
