The CGI in Kingsglaive is stunning. If anyone is interested in Visual Works Studio's creative and technical process and how it functions inside SE Japan, here's a great lecture from their General Manager and Chief Creative Director, Kazuyuki Ikumori, from last year. E.g. they share their mo-cap studio and tech with FFXV's dev team where animators can quickly do mo-cap themselves and instantly have the data available at their work desk etc. Check it out:

That uncanny valley, lol. It is such a fascinating effect to me. Like, we reach this point where there's a shift from seeing the graphics, knowing it's clearly CG, our brains helping us out to make it look real, to this opposite effect. It's like it looks so real, our brain judges it based off the real thing and any imperfections are amplified.

I suspect we're going to be seeing a lot of this effect for a few years. We're getting right into its critical zone.

I think in the case of the Type-Next GIF I posted above it's that the expressions are deliberately overexaggerated to show the full range of the face tracking. They probably used the same tech for Kingsglaive and there the facial animations aren't that much Uncanny Valley, imo.

These particular clips, at these particular angles and without sound seem fine, but there's definitely textbook uncanny valley. Any time something just doesn't look quite perfect, it activates this "POD PEOPLE!" warning and they look weird. I get it the strongest so far from that part in the English E3 trailer with that dude that's staring Nyx down.

I wonder if Noctis is in the film? I'd like to see if they changed his appearance too.
There's the brief scene they showed with Regis and Noct and crew, and one of the Kingsglaive members. This takes place in the game, not the movie, but it's the only scene I've seen so far with models from KG and FFXV all in the same, pretty polished scene.

This tells me that if Noctis makes it into the movie at all (And I have to imagine he'll be at least shown in flashes here and there) then it'll most likely be the same character model as the game, like Regis.
