Technically speaking, Ignis, Gladio and Prompto's gameplay don't differ too much from Noctis (outside of his warping) since he can use all their weapons.
I'm referring to what the DLCs producer and Tabata said: it was something among the lines of "every single one of them is going to vary in style".

So, while I don't expect the actual control of the characters being different (especially in regards to Gladio and Ignis), I expect some differences in how they animate, their stats and so, how you have to approach the combat system. Whether those are going to make the experience significantly different or not, I don't know, but Gladio was said to be more action-oriented, Ignis more tactical and Prompto's DLC inspired by third-person shooters. I wouldn't be surprised if we could attack in a different way than just auto-aim.

So, for example, I don't expect Gladio to be as agile and aerial as Noct (I might be talking out of my ass, but I recall that the journalists that saw a preliminar look of his DLC likened it to Dark Souls -I'm guessing in terms of combat rhythm, as he's a heavier character with only heavy weapons and shields-), or Ignis and Prompto having the same amount of resources he has. They're most likely going to shake the gameplay up a little bit to make up for the losses of warp strikes and weapon variety.

Of course, the "action-oriented", "tactical" and "third person-shooter" terms are most likely more about their respective DLCs' approaches, and not so much about their playstyle, which, at the end of the day, is going to be pretty much on par with Noctis'. I mean, they have to work and complement each other for the online DLC.

I really enjoyed the demo. It's such an improvement over the heavily underdeveloped Duscae version 1 demo. Of course we all know that was rushed out to push Type-0 HD sales. The combat felt clunky and the group attacks were awful, when you had to run to that ugly yellow spot. Now however the combat is so smooth. It just works. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the combat evolves through the game when you learn new abilities and group attacks / character actions. There are still some niggles with the camera (god forbid you enter a battle by a tree xD) but I understand this is being addressed in the day one patch. If this game has a good story, which I'm hopeful it will, it will be an amazing experience. The combat, the day and night cycles, the levelling system, drawing magic from the stones and mixing your spells, the ascension tree, the variety of weapons, the side quests, eeekkkk, so close now. So close.

I was actually worried when I found out they were going completely away from turn based with FFXV but I hav to say, what they've done is amazing - From the point of view of someone who doesn't really like action games like the DMC's of this world, I think FFXV does a good job of keeping it's combat firmly away from turn based but not alienating people like me so much and going all out DMC action combat style.

It's still a Final Fantasy after all ;)
Also, people keep forgetting that each of them has different gameplay mechanics (think about the twelve, it wasn't turn-based, and still people liked it, me included lol).
So we should stop thinking at final fantasies as turn-based games. They are so special because they are sooo different from each other. Maybe the XVI will be an hybrid between turns and action... I'll be looking forward to it anyway, i have never complained about the gameplay formula, and never will. What really cares is the story imo.

Personally, I'd love to have another battle system like XII. XII itself was a breath of fresh air in the series, it really made the world feel more alive than any other FF game before it because of the open nature of it. It felt like a story driven MMO that you played offline if that makes any sense. Every area has a lot of detail in it and you have a world to explore that feel real and every battle takes place right where you travel.

FFXV to me is an evolution of this concept by creating a world that feels real, and I believe that the only way forward for FF is to create worlds that feel realistic by keeping you within the world itself and not trying to pull you out of it for battles and the like. Even if they just made it so you agro a few enemies that link together and group up into a turn based arena that forms up instantly where you are in the map that would be good enough.

The inclusion of the wait mode makes a really good compromise between old and new FF. It makes it feel a lot more "traditional". For those who feel the action is too intense, Wait Mode will be a godsend.

Oohh so i see we are the ones who have FFXII as our favorite final fantasy huh? :3
And yee, XII vibes are everywhere.
Its gameplay was so good, it just eliminated the wait time between the exploration and the battle, and every area had that bit of magic that made it a true final fantasy. And i pretty much had the same sensations watching FFXV. 100℅ sure i'll have no regrets.

The new, improved Wait Mode they recently showed actually looks (aesthetically) quite a bit like FF XII's combat system, what with the lines showing attacks and all.

I'll probably try it out a couple of fights to see how much of an after-thought it is (or isn't). And yeah, the future of FF should go along the lines of seamless battles, whether the battle system leans towards turns, a form of ATB, action or something entirely different.

I have been watching a few Twitch streams and yeah, a lot of FFXII vibes, so it's all good.
