Leviathan, anyone? =O

I knew going in to expect the Leviathan fight to be different from what we saw in E3 2013, but I was really surprised to see how much they managed to keep. I thought for sure the water-Leviathans were goners, so it was great to see them again... especially since I actually like the transparent mini-Leviathans more than the indistinct foam from the E3 2013 trailer!

The QTE stuff was utter madness, as expected, but the real star was the massive, warp point heavy battlefield for the actual fight. I imagine that fighting well will require one to warp all over the place, which should look and feel awesome. And then Super Noct showed up, and my jaw dropped. I hope we get to take advantage of that mode at least a few times throughout the game.

With that said, I really have to wonder when this footage was recorded, given that the block icons didn't show up properly during the QTEs. >_>; If that footage was from an earlier build... >.>

The only thing that I was not so fond of was the QTE-esque parts of it, outside of that it was good.

The big take away from the fight was the scale of the battle.

I saw them as the equivelent of Reaction Commands from KH2:FM which i was fine with personally speaking.

QTE part is just cinematic preparation for real battle, don't get that complain of some people.
They're also basically just cues to use an existing part of your moveset when you might not necessarily be expecting it. But I guess QTEs have been misused enough elsewhere that simply having the cue pop up instantly draws unwanted comparisons. =P

(I wonder whether you can turn the block prompts off without removing the entire UI, and if that will affect the more cutscene-y stuff.)

Reaction Commands are more like proper QTEs, actually, since they use a button that doesn't have a similar use during standard combat. ;)

QTE isn't the entire fight so I'm all good with it.

Never saw a problem with them since they make a scene more cinematic. Didn't know people hated them until I started going on forums.

In XV case they're not true QTE, my bad wording. The only true QTE we have seens thus far is in
the Titan battle at the begining when Noctis block Titan's attacks before warp striking back to Titan's fist

I don't like them too much as they only exist to pull off "complex" gameplay interactions that the existing gameplay mechaniques are not able to pull off which in my book is not good game design.

Found a video of the Leviathan scene without commentary distractions, so you can hear the dialogue and music fully.

Lol Noctis saying "son of a bitch" at 3:47. Glad they're not shying away from curse words.

Don't forget to clear your watch history both before and after watching this. Steering clear of the comments would be wise.

I'm going to be completely honest with my impression of the Leviathan fight here.

Love the set piece and the idea of the scenario. Personally I don't have a problem with it since I'm fairly easygoing when it comes to being pleased with games. It looks fun and epic.

However I can foresee a shitload of people complaining about how "messy and all over the place" it is like the Titan fight.

"It's hard to see what's going on and the camera isn't helping" will come up a lot too I'll bet.

Technically, even the Titan QTEs retain the existing gameplay mechanics -- the prompt is a "Block now, fool" warning, but you block and counter the same way you always do. *shrugs*

Have you seen the full Titan fight from (I think) Polygon's video about the first five chapters? Noct says "G--d---it." And the ESRB says that "s---" is used, too.

They basically reverted to FFVII-level cursing, just less frequently (and actually voiced). XD;

Hearing Noctis say bitch is so satisfying for some reason. He needs to call someone an asshole now.

Next we need to hear Ignis say a naughty word... oh my!

On a different (but still Leviathan-related) note...

Does Noct's super Armiger remind anyone else of the Avatar State? XD

Never heard of avatar state but it does remind me of super saiyan god mode with the semi blue hair and aura xD
