Why are we not talking about this??

http://vgleaks.com/final-fantasy-30th-anniversary-roadmap/

Apparently, there have been some leaked documents outlining what we may be seeing in 2017 as part of SE's celebration of 30 years of Final Fantasy.

This includes:

FFVII-R's first episode
FFXII- The Zodiac Age
FFXIII trilogy on the PS4
FFI-IX in a single package for the PS4/Vita

I have taken preparations and added SE as an authorized user on my debit card. Just to cut out the middle men.

This will turn my PS4 into a Final Fantasy machine.

This sounds very fishy to me. While release dates during an event isn't too outlandish (might have expected that at E3), I don't think they'll associated them so strongly with the series' anniversary. The rest just sounds like wild speculation. SQEX can't be that desperate to expand their PS4 library that they'd re-release those old games yet again. And XIII re-released again, after Steam? Don't think that's likely; they've been trying their damndest to leave XIII behind since the Steam re-release.

Something that isn't really noted is that they've already got their big PS4 anniversary title in World of FF.

I don't get what seems unrealistic about it. The anniversary sounds like the perfect opportunity to repackage everything they have and cash it in again. It would be bad business NOT to.

It's not really speculation, though. It's leaked documents and it's being reported from multiple sources. You can feel free not to believe them, but there's really nothing there that doesn't make perfect sense to me.

Not too surprising. I have the 25th Anniversary Ultimate Box, and it has a lot of stuff including all of the FF games up to that point which is I - XIII and a code for an exclusive XIV item (Moogle Earrings)

This looks really nice but I would ask for two things:
1)Not limited supply because the majority is bought by Ebay sellers to inflate the price
2)Set a normal price for those who love the series but lack the disposable income of Donald Trump

This stuff is largely dog shit, by the way. Nice guesswork, I guess.

Next year will be good all the same, lots of cool FF stuff in the pipe methinks. This post is a fever dream wishlist tho

Just clarifying, is that your guess or do you know something?

I realize it's all from a single source, so it could well be bunk, it just got picked up by an awful lot of sites and usually total bunk stuff gets called out quick. That and it doesn't seem like a wet dream at all to me. That actually seems like something that wouldn't actually take that much to port over and could be a great opportunity to cash in on already made stuff.

I'm more concerned about the lack of FFXI to be honest. With the PS2 version being shut down and more emphasis is being put into FFXIV as time go on, could there ever come a time FFXI will be a gaping hole in the series no one can go re-play (or play if they missed out)? It might be silly but this is what worries me about the series now including MMO's as numbered titles. I hope it isn't to far-fetched to wish for a single player FFXI being made at some point, that could fix the problem. SE would have to make one for FFXIV as well though eventually, especially if they choose to continue making more numbered titles as MMO's...

FFXI PC servers are still running and we will get a mobile version of it sometime in the future.

Apologies, I meant for console users.

Being PC exclusive might be what the MMO's will become though, if they can maintain the servers. I can't see the mobile version being a good replacement for anything though, even though I do play Mobile (Mobius, Record Keeper regarding FF games on mobile) I could just be bias though but I'd have nightmares if somehow any offline FF game was taken from me and I was restricted to play them on mobile phone devices only, ahaha.

I wish someday Square Enix releases a offline FFXI, adapting some of the storylines into an offline, cinematic adventure.
Hey, I can dream...
40th Anniversary? :D
You can find all(?) XI cutscenes in youtube.
Making an offline XI (as much as I would like it) would take away (most of) the core gameplay of it.

Just play the game now it's not that demanding and you can solo pretty much anything you'd want to. Honestly, I don't think a single player solo experience for XI would ever work because the charm of the game comes from it being an MMO, even if you're not playing with other players.

Yeah, not really believing it (also, that web doesn't really have an stellar past in that sense: they seem to regurgitate any kind of rumour they get a hold of).

But I wouldn't be surprised at some of these things happening.
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake roughly started in 2014. That would put a late 2017 release date at 3 years of development. I think this game's development would have a speedier development than what one could initially guess: the game is being outsourced in terms of "grunt" work (CC2 and others) in a reliable, greatly supported and easy to work with (afaik) engine and is based on a previous game (so the creative part of the game is probably going to be less time consuming, considering there's a pretty big groundwork already laid out). But mostly, it's releasing episodically, so yeah (still wouldn't have it for granted next year, at all. Especially, as the first episode should be the one requiring more work, considering it's the foundation of the entire game).
  • FF XII The Zodiac Age is already confirmed, so yeah.
  • FF XIII Trilogy. Nothing too far-fetched, considering the game is already on more capable machines (PCs) and it wouldn't require that much work.
  • FFI-IX in a single package. Well, this I'm not sure about, but it's certainly possible, especially if it's shipped in a more deluxy way, so its price could be pumped up (as it would be a pretty good piece of collection).
I don't really remember much of FF's 25th anniversary (beyond feeling back then that it was kinda lacking in meaningful stuff), but I can expect some pretty important news next year.

It's all about pacing it properly, if they intend to do similar stuff. You not only have FF related products, but also KH, DQ (I keep forgetting about XI even though I'm excited as hell about that one), any other game from the Japanese branch, as well as the Western one.

With XV out of the way, I think we can finally talk about a new era for the series. Hopefully a much better one than the one we've lived in since 2006. I guess announcing upcoming games when they're releasing in a timeframe of less than 1 year and a half would be a good start... (so hopefully VII-R is talked about in that capacity soon).

You're right about that. 25th anniversary barely had anything important related to it.

greatly supported and easy to work with (afaik) engine
Erm... I've never heard of afaik. It's running on Unreal 4.

Hahaha, I know that's not the engine! "afaik" stands for "as far as I know" :kefkalol:. I used it because, well, I'm not too that well versed when it comes to this particular engine (or any, in general), but it seems like it's easy to work with, gets results done and has great support and helpf from Epic (I think some Epic workers are in Japan helping S-E).

Although to be fair, there hasn't been much done with that engine, not that I know of. Weird, considering how commonplace UE3 was during last gen.

And yeah, it was quite uneventful. Understandable if you weight in what was going on at the time (the third title of a trilogy not many asked for that was done in order to recoup costs, the whole endeavour S-E emerged themselves into to save XIV, the lack of news of Versus/XV -which was decided back then to change names and be a next-gen title)...

30 years is a pretty beautiful number, and things have, seemingly, changed for the better in comparison. I could see some good stuff being announced this year.

What do you guys mean by "anything important"? Do you mean in terms of something as substantial as VII Remake? If so, you're right. The box has FFI to FFXIII on custom printed discs, I - IX on PS1 discs (except III which is on a UMD) and then X and XII on PS2 discs and of course XIII on a PS3 disc. The artwork on them is great and the box itself is pretty cool, but overall it was just repackaged stuff that already existed outside of the art book and little art display thing.

I could see them releasing a smaller box with the classics on one disc for PS4 but some of that stuff is pretty ridiculous.
