@Jubileus I have a question. Have you heard the banter of Ignis getting on to Noct about his shirt yet?
Yeah I did.

It's funny how hopeless Noctis is at self grooming. Ignis is too caring and patient for his own good. He's practically mothering Noctis lol Gladio would've thrown him on his ass a long time ago if he had to deal with that.

I keep hearing about this rumour that one of the characters has a leg injury. Apparently there is a slight limp in his animation but I haven't been able to find anything. I honestly have no idea where it originated from, but it seems to have gained some traction since it's popping up wherever I go.

Has anyone else heard of it too? There is supposedly one website out there that goes into full detail explaining how they came to this conclusion, but haven't been able to find it.

Surely I'm not the only one here who has come across the rumour that Ardyn has a leg injury/limp in his walk?

IIRC, it's of Tumblr origin, and it's based on the way he distributes his weight when moving around.

Oh? Hmm if it's from Tumblr.. I'm skeptical if there is sound reason behind the rumour.

I've watched a few clips to see if I could see the limp in his stride and, it might be my mind tricking itself into seeing what it wants to see due to confirmation bias, but I do kind of see it a bit?

I took a look at when he walked to his car in Lestallum, and after he stabbed Luna, and tried to stand up and take a step. His weight does seem a bit unevenly distributed and slightly janky at times.

Again not sure if it's my mind trying to see what it wants to see here.

Gonna reserve judgment until we learn more about his character. Too many rumours floating about but this is definitely an interesting and "original" one.

I recall hearing that an article was written about this rumour by a motion capture pro, and he delved into why he thought it was true by referencing animation mechanics and his experience in the profession.

Been trying to find this article but my search has been fruitless.

Don't think I've ever come across a game that has this many rumours surrounding it xD

I don't think "rumor" is the right word for it. It's pure analysis of a visual text, and extensive analysis at that. And while it's written in a Tumblr style that's, shall we say, not exactly academic, it is pretty compelling, especially since there's no reason not to accept it. Its only proposition is that Ardyn suffers a visible handicap, and that doesn't contradict anything we know about anything.

Here's the article, by the way.

It's on a google doc linked to via Tumblr.. no wonder I couldn't find it. Man, I should've just asked here and spared myself all that searching lol

Thanks for this. Truly, I was just about to give up on finding it.

That was a fun read. It's funny how the general concensus is that Ardyn dresses like trash and is extremely flamboyant and overly dramatic. But that's part of his charm. Not sure about the homosexual part although he seems to flirt and get handsy with anything that moves tbh (not to mention he has a picture of a scantily clad young girl in his car). 2000 years alone does things to you I suppose.

I did notice how janky his movements were at times and, if I were him, I'd be sick to death of having to live like this for 2000 years and would very much be looking forward to Noctis offing me.

Also, the speculation that someone tried to cut his leg off but failed to do so sounds extremely rough. I'm guessing that would have happened during the time where the jealous King tried to have him executed?

Well, that's solid ground entitling someone to feel rage for 2000 years on top of being royally screwed by the Gods and general populace. Don't blame him.

Good to see that someone else enjoyed the moment Ardyn kicked Noctis like a rag doll. Noct is awesome but that kick was savage.

From an i-universe perspective...
What would prevent an over 2000 years inmortal man recovering from a leg injure?
Maybe the state his body was in before his first death would be the state it would remain? Any injuries after that wouldn't stick.

I'm just lucky I'd seen it before and had an idea where to look. XD;

Personally, I think that Ardyn's just generally predatory -- he doesn't care about gender as much as the ability to use intimate gestures as a method of making people feel incredibly uncomfortable.

What's this about him having a picture of a scantily clad young girl in his car, though? o_0;

The "tried to cut his leg off" part is the least convincing part of the theory to me, honestly. If Ardyn is handicapped, it makes far more sense that he was injured before his immortality rendered his body impervious to permanent destruction.

And, yeah, I love Noct, but that kick is one of those moments where a simple animation conveys everything you need to know about the character using it. xD;

When he offers to take you to Titan, and you stop over at Cauthess station, you can take a peek into his car with the camera. Tbh all I remember is a photo of a girl leaning against a car, and some other document in there as well. I remember legs, and a nice pose. Could be a business card? I dunno.

Perhaps the "cutting of his leg" part was a bit too extreme, yes. Perhaps someone tried to smash his hip or something would be more plausible?

Speaking of savagery against Noctis, I've never encountered this move while fighting Ardyn. Honestly, I'm starting to wonder just how many more things I've missed. Quite a stance for someone with a supposed hip problem, but then again his left leg ain't exactly moving since his right leg is taking the weight.

Huh, I didn't notice that. I'm going to have to spy on his car when I eventually replay that chapter. XD;

Internal damage makes a lot more sense than what ought to be major external damage, yes. Though I also feel like, if he is suffering from an injury of some sort, it ought to have happened before his immortality curse came into effect, since his body is clearly capable of healing itself after that.

I think I encountered that move when fighting him (though I countered it and therefore didn't take the hit). But, yeah, Ardyn's fighting style is quite brutal.

Seemed like an apropos place to share this story: I spent the weekend at a BSA camping trip. One of the days it was cold and raining in the morning, so I said "Camping sucks when it rains." No fewer than 4 dads and scouts got the reference, so now we had an icebreaker. It was interesting to note how the non-message board set received the game. The general feedback (from this small sample size) was that SE really nailed the relationships of the 4 men, and that was enough to carry the story through its weaker moments.

Other things of note:
- Ardyn and the ending got high praise.
- The combat system was fun and engaging without being overly complex
- Nobody complained about Chapter 13 (again -- the non-message board set)

And Coleman gear is fantastic. A Coleman tent, air mattress, and thermal sleeping bag were enough to make freezing nighttime temperatures tolerable.

Just goes to show that a portion of the fans for the game don't go on forums to post, and that the opinions of those on the forum don't make up the majority.

I wouldn't even be surprised if the non-message board group of people aren't aware of all the hate the game is receiving.

VIII was my entry to the series, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Then I got into the internet more years later to find out it's one of the most disliked mainline titles. While it didn't change my own personal experience, it did open my eyes up to a reality I never considered before.
