i thought the game was amazing and rich then internet happened.
While it didn't change my own personal experience, it did open my eyes up to a reality I never considered before.
Yup, these pretty much sum up my gaming experience since I was kid until October of last year.

Oh how the internet has opened my eyes to what some gamers are really like...

If i had to list one of my biggest regrets of 2012, discovering the existinence of gamefaqs and neogaf as communities wouldn't be far off from the top at all imo.

With the former forum in particular, the very first active section i took part in after signing up in 2012 was the gamefaqs 3DS board.

Unfortunately, this was during the days where trolling the system & it's library was at an all-time high (although 2011 would probably take the cake overall given that the 3DS board during that year, despite my absence, was apparently so toxic it had to be temperarily shut down). Hell, there was even a 50 page flamebait topic over the 3DS' library, to the point where the topic creator himself insinuated that Kid Icarus Uprising was a remake/ port. No joke.

In a nutshell, i've certainly seen some shit. My gaming days prior to dedicated forums were a lot less hysterical lol.

The official FFXV forum is still "under maintenance"

I'm wondering if the trolling and spam got so bad that they just decided to shut it down?

From my brief time there, after the game was released, it was constant bashing and hate speech. Productive criticism was few and far in between. The mass hysteria was real.

I thought the 3DS was a great console.
Another example of me enjoying something profoundly, and then the internet revealing it was flamed to ashes online. Honestly...

It'll probably remain shut down at this point. The main moderator over that site and one of the main ones over at the regular SE forums stepped down. I don't even know if the SE forum has an active moderator at this point.

I really can't blame S.E. for wanting to distance themselves from it, first time I've ever seen a forum completely kill itself on that level.

Even the mod Grimoire got shat on for trying to minimize the slander, his very last post went along the lines of "i'm now fading into the lifestream....". Yikes.

It was indeed a rare situation. As the release date got closer, bots were coming in more and more often on both the SE and FFXV forums. Then, after the release date a few Pro Versus XIII people showed up and some users that had been on the forum for months showed their true colors by doing a 180. I do feel I played a role in that forum's downfall.

I would like to point out that pulling a 180 (not positive) opinion on the game after release is totally valid, if you feel that something did not meet your expectations after supporting the believe that it would have met them, is all in your rights.

the problem as always comes down to how do you do it, you can express it in a educated manner or like a troll; anyway they only got themselves to blame for the downfall of the official forum, almost no moderation there.

The kind of 180 I'm referring to is going from being hopeful and excited for XV to wanting Versus XIII again.

While you're correct that it can be valid, like Storm said, it really comes down how how it's expressed.

And i know for certain that from what i witnessed, one of the more notable users on there (won't give out the name) practically shifted his opinion right off the bat from praising XV's gameplay post-release to straight up shilling Nomura/Versus XIII + bashing the entire game again via "told you so, guys" once the negativity from others kept rising.

It's been awhile so I swung over Gamefaqs to see if there was anything new.

Just came across a thread that made me realise something.

You get the monster whistle after having camped with Ardyn.

Makes sense because he is the host for Daemons.. can't believe I never thought to put that together until now T_T

Do people really let the opinions of others sway them so easily? I have many opinions that aren't in line with most online communities and it doesn't faze me a single bit. Sure, I've gotten into childish slapfights in my younger days, but my opinions overall remain adamant.

Often yes. You'd be surprised how often a person is turned away from something simply due to negative reception on the internet (e.g. FFXIII & Dragon Age 2). This isn't just limited to games either. In some cases this negative reception is echoed by others that may have little to no experience with the game and fall into a hive mentality.

Huh. Their loss I guess. It has never truly had an impact on me. I know my preferences and dislikes. I also have no issue making them known either. Regardless if the majority agrees or not.

This is what I like to call consumer brawn, in the most literal sense of it. It's not about logic, or whether who's right or wrong, there are those who ignores the simple facts, expressing their voices as if it's set in stone, refusing to listen to others. It's ones ego that gets ahead forward their logical sense. Pretty much Brawn Royale.

This would describe me.

I find it appalling that people aren't mentally stable enough to stick to their own guns and allow themselves to be so easily influenced.

An unfortunate flaw in humanity. Hive mentality is one of the worst things to exist. It honestly brings out the worst in people.
