I'm playing Zelda and Persona 5, between 1-3 hours a day split across them, and I feel like I will be playing them for the rest of the year. Good thing they are both so excellent.

I've been playing Persona 5, I already completed the game and currently onward to New Game +.
I'm also trying to complete Bloodborne and yeah, this one is extremely brutal, even more brutal than Dark Souls 3.

Have been playing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, clocking in at about 32 hours.

Done 17 missions and like 50 side missions, 21% overall completion. Pretty good, would likely put it as the best game I played this year.

I said it before and I will say it again, best gameplay in the series, it streamlines the controls (in a good way) as well having mechaniques that can adapt to openfire/gunblazing scenarios (whereas in the previous games you had stealth mechaniques that performed poorly on combat scenenarios and games went out of their way to force you on said scenarios), multiple options to tackle outpost and said outpost being designed so that they can hold multiple type of missions on them.

I will prematurely call it my favourite Metal Gear game at the moment.

Been binge-playing all of my Metroid games (which is to say all but three Metroid titles released - Prime Pinball, Prime Hunters and Federation Force are not in my possession (anymore)).

Went through Other M from Tuesday to Thursday, better than I remember tbh. Currently up is the Prime Trilogy, with Prime about to be wrapped up. After that, I'll aim to squeeze as much as I can of Prime 2 & 3 in before having to leave for a few days - in which case, I can take Zero Mission and Fusion with me (and also Metroid and Return of Samus on the VC). After that, Super Metroid.

Finished FFXII: The Zodiac Age. I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than the vanilla version. Brief rundown:

Good
- The 2x/4x speed is the only way to play this game. I only turned it off for some of the trickier encounters. Coupled with the on-screen map changes, even the giant slog to some of the areas were tolerable.
- Being able to assign two jobs per character was very welcomed. Black Mage/Monk is damn near game-breaking.
- I liked how the treasures were re-done - you have to find some of the most powerful spells and techni(k)s.
- The remastered score is well done.
- Balthier is just as good as I remembered him.

Bad
- The Great Crystal is still as obtuse as ever.
- Same with the Bazaar system.
- The story is the same as it ever was.

Ugly
- The game has some real balance issues. Most of the magic and techniques are still almost useless.
Expose, Shear, Wither, and Addle -- while well-hidden -- trivialize the super-bosses. Without them, it's a war of attrition, and not a fun one at that. With them -- and the game makes you earn them, mind, it's little more than surviving the first onslaught until they hit.
The Undying still has that annoying one-shot cannon that ignores defense.
It always annoyed me how the story never explained why my party had to go through 100 floors of the Pharos, and Gabranth and Cid were just waiting there. Fine -- Imperial ships can fly in Jagd and all that. But Vaan couldn't have asked Balthier to park somewhere near the top? I mean -- hang a lantern on it or something, i.e. the Mist is too strong for the Strahl so we have to park it -- 5 damn screens away.(And why did Cid and Venat need the party there to begin with? Venat couldn't have pointed the Bahamut over to the Pharos earlier?)

After over 120 hours of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phanton Pain, I'll be putting the game to rest for a while and play something else. Great experience 9/10.

Last nigh I started a replay of Persona 5. The first 6 hours are still among my less favourite parts of the game but, it's still more bearable than Persona 4 first hours.

I started Xenogears on my Vita (that's a Sony handheld - I know what you're thinking; I hadn't heard of it either). I remember my HS self thinking it had a deep, engaging, and thoughtful story. Now since I've put away childish things (except gaming, naturally), I found myself rolling my eyes at the Gnostic and Jungian claptrap that drives the narrative. But in a bizarre hipster sort-of way, it was the original -- predating Dan Brown by 5 or so years.

It's still an impressive technical achievement for its time. And I have to admit -- running around in giant robots is still cool all these years later.

Bought Final Fantasy IX on Steam a few days ago. Already I have put a bit more than 20 hours into the game, currently located at the part where
Lindblum was just devastated by Atomos
Still the one.
I'm of the opinion that the mobile/Steam release is the best way to experience this game. The enhancements are very welcomed, especially how slow the random encounters load.

Personally, I think the rate for random encounters is too low and the only "fix" Square Enix offered is to turn them off completely. I for one would've welcomed the possibility to set the encounter rate as you please à la Bravely Default/Second.

I've been playing Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS and Dragon Quest V on the DS. I've already beat Dragon Quest VIII recently, beaten the Lord Of Dragons when I had to return him to his senses, and, I'm at the land of the fairies in Dragon Quest V, and did some grinding. Also, want to know something interesting? In Dragon Quest VIII, I named my hero Lucis, and my monster team Kingsglaive, and in Dragon Quest V, I named my hero in that game Ifrit, after FFXV's Ifrit. My lord, my interest in what I've liked about FFXV had poured into these games, and if this keeps up, I might as well name my hero in Dragon Quest XI for PS4 when I do get it next year Regis.
