I’d say you should wait until all the story updates are done and production is concluded for good before writing off the story.

That way, once all the pieces are in place, the conclusion one comes to is more accurate... but that’s just me.

each new update is filler fluff that has no narrative depth to it. yes they are vague. not in a minimalist approach but in a these storytellers arent diving into their own explanations way. throwing out tropes for quick conclusion sake is not enough. i defended the game long enough. now its crap. the latest backstory patch on the Astrals proves it!!!

Shiva the generic goddess of niceness randomly disliked humans before the start of the game because humans thought positively (hope and dreams!). Ifirit on the other hand liked their ambition. who cares why? he's a fire god and fire goes hand and hand with ambition. He gave them fire. humans made Solheim because they had fire!? btw Solheim means nothing for the rest of the game. Shiva got turned on by the action. they made out. then huamns randomly became egostical, thinking they were better than these deities. ifirit got pissed. he wanted them all dead. Shiva said no. thus a war broke out.

WTF THIS IS INDISTINCT AS FUCK. im sorry i cant accept such history. details about Eos do indeed suck. the writing team wants A B C to happen without elaborating the basic details between A B and C. the concept of cause and effect in a narrative hardly makes sense anymore
Looks like one of Pez's minions found his way here and is spouting his drivel.

1 i'm not talking about Summons. I'm talking about lore. History. Events. The context behind the ongoing journey. I used the patch's voiceover slideshow as an example.

first off, this backstory covers 2 minutes and 40 seconds. the final telling of the WHO WHAT WHERE WHY WHEN AND HOW behind only 2... only 2.. only 2 again TWO out of 6 Astrals. and at most those 2 end up as quotable as any God you can find in a God & Goddess description generator. during the duration of it, what do I learn? randomness. contradictory information stuffed in there faster than a cactuar running. look at the picture of the Astral war posted here. Aside from the two noticeable Astrals it explains nothing! cool without a purpose for the greater narrative.

now I can go into what happens in other titles. I can go deep. And all deep means I won't sound like a first time Game Master clueless about concepts like worldbuilding. not a shit ton of information to compete with Iteven Erikson and Ian C Esslemont. i just dont want to feel brain dead when consuming facts about what happens in a setting
I like the part where you don't actually make an actual argument and just spout blanket statements without actually backing anything up.

Guys... holy shit the difference between the English and Japanese translation for the story update with Shiva is massive.

Here are some more translations.

The Japanese translation is more personal, gives Shiva personality, explains the War more clearly, and is better overall imo.

It sucks that localisation causes issues sometimes ><

I find both translations great equally, although, the Japanese one sounds like it could've explained better.

really interesting interview about his experience developing the game.
"Tabata: The things we really wanted to include from release - but because of scheduling we couldn't - there were two of them really. The first was the off-road Regalia, and the free-driving section - that's something we really wanted in there, but unfortunately couldn't. The other thing was that transition into the second half of the game, into the linear section, we wanted to make that a lot more gradual and softer, rather than an abrupt change. Obviously the things we realised after release - that's something slightly different."

"The issues we became aware of, and were concerned about, after release - there's a certain way in the story was presented. Final Fantasy 15, it's not just the main game, there's a variety of other stories and content surrounding that, and I think it was a good idea to do that - it creates a lot of entry points where people can get into the game from - but on the other hand, the people who've only played the main game, there's a feeling that you're missing out on some important part of the story. And even in the main game, the core story of the world, the mythos, it's kind of sparse and missing stuff. That's something we could have done a bit more clearly."

It's an interesting one - I played it on day one, and I feel like I didn't play the complete thing. It's the first game I've played that's had a story patch. That's obviously not something you planned for.

Tabata: During development, we were working around the clock, putting everything we had into it and really killing ourselves to get the game made. It was a lot of effort - when we completed it and finished it, we felt like we'd put everything into it we could in the time we had, and it was the best result we could have made. When you look back on that, and think we had that limited time period, and our abilities were at a certain point - we were limited in what we could do. Now we've grown and developed as creators - we know how to do things a lot better. There's a feeling that if we do it now we'd be able to do it a lot better, which is why we've switched over to the service model. We want to continue to improve and add on to the game after release - that's the natural progression.

We made quite a lot of money off the game on day one - we made good profits off that - and we thought the best way to use that profit would be to thank the fans who'd played the game, to give back to them and use that to improve their experience. After doing a service model game, you learn a hell of a lot doing that, you realise certain things about games. It's been a rewarding experience doing it like that.

...

How big is the active team still working on Final Fantasy 15?

Tabata: We've split them into several smaller teams - there's those wider expansions, different hardware and different projects. Overall the team is 100, 150 people. There are also outsourcing companies we use working on various projects - if you're talking about the internal staff count, it's probably just under 150.

At what point will you consider Final Fantasy 15 complete?

Hajime Tabata:
We've come, ever since the release, together with our fans - so I think it's really about when we can satisfy them and when the game can end and have a proper conclusion to it. We've got a plan up until the end of this year, but looking at that that probably wouldn't satisfy the fans out there. They want more. So I'd like to continue making stuff for the game into next year, and consider what the best way to finish it is and have that big climax next year. So next year, we'll call the end of the journey!
hard not to respect this guy, also his next project will use luminous engine... anyway, that was one of the best interviews with tabata i read, the full interview (didn't posted all the interesting bits because it's too much) is in that link.

Really great read.

So Regalia Type-D actually WAS intended to be in the game day one, rather than only due to feedback. Makes a lot of sense really.

What I really like is that Noctis looks just like the earlier promotional poster back in Versus XIII.

Also I played chapter 14 again and I noticed that Noctis in his CG scene has the same camera perspective and body position like Stella.
So just random or a bit fan service? ;)

Hard not to sympathise with the guys at SE over what’s gone down with this game.

I mean, there are some people out there who say “As consumers that’s not our problem what goes on behind the scenes. We only care about the end product.”

They’ve got a point.

However I am of the belief that that context matters.

Consciously knowing that time was against them and they were doing the best they can with what they have is what stops me from turning into a gigantic douch nozzle about the whole thing.

It's things like this that can discourage developers from being open about their projects with the ups and downs that they have had. A lot of people that play games have very unrealistic expectations, which just leads to higher chances of creating a toxic environment. While technology has on the one had allowed things to be more detailed, it has at the same time increased the development time as well.

FFXV is an event, not only a game.

anyway, just more 2 weeks for comrades, new update, and possibly ep ignis trailer; really excited.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to those, I can't wait to get into Comrades to get into the World Of Ruin, along with Episode Ignis and a new update as well. I enjoyed 1.16, so I'm looking forward to the next one.
