Maybe Ardyn was in love lol.

@MitchellProductions, I have not. Too much effort for something coming out in 2 days. It's likely just that nobody can install the actual DLC files to the game, plus the March 6th update will provide compatibility with the Royal Pack so I have a feeling it's just impossible to access until that patch is released.
I doubt PC will need a patch considering the build is probably the same as the final(Besides, the patch changes are already in the build) The demo exe probably just doesn't support it.

I wish Steam would hurry up and release it though~(Same with PSN and Xbox lol)

The name being that has me scratching my head. You read the lyrics of the song and they make sense with the ending of the final game even after 10 years. That being that character's name just feels really off. It makes absolutely 0 sense to me.

I do like the name of the Founder King as Somnus better than Izunia, in my opinion, though, I did find the Izunia name a little weird for a first name.

Chapter 10 quests are also missing from the PC version. It still doesn't have everything.

Wait then who's izunia ?

Well just because it's his name doesn't mean it's suddenly his song. Somnus is still a word on its own that describes Noct's journey. Just take the name as a cool bit of referencing and lore.

True, that's what I'll have to take it as. It's just that the song has meant a lot for this game's development across 10 years, and it's the one thing that's made sense from the very beginning. They respected it enough to make it the song for the last area of the game, which felt poetic since it's the first thing you heard in 2006 when the game was announced. "Somnus" being thrown around like that when it doesn't feel like there's any meaning behind it feels off. Naming and themes matter.

Maybe it'll make sense more later.

I'd wait until you read the monuments (it follows a certain kings journey, it may be his), plus whatever else the dialogue in these scenes have.

Its extremely important that everyone knows this, but I didn't post everything because I couldn't find everything. There are clear missing areas of dialogue for the whole final chapter. I couldn't even find dialogue for the beginning of the chapter itself.

There definitely is new dialogue with Ardyn in various places (Him taking a lot about the old wall, forming the barrier, using the Kings of Yore as the remaining old wall defense) with definitely more not present.

Names and themes do matter but they're not the be all, end all of a story either. Somnus being named that just as a cool reference doesn't hurt the story imo. Though if you really wanna look deeply into it then look at it like this. Somnus the song is what kicked off the entire XV/Versus universe in the first place which is also the case with the king of the same name. He's the one who kicks off all of the events of the prophecy and story 2000 years prior and both have remained a constant presence within development and story respectively speaking. We saw the Mystic/Founder as far back as the Dawn trailer and then he made a pretty substantial appearance in Kingsglaive. Hell his is one of the first royal arms you receive in the game which helps you complete Titan's trial. So I think him having the same name as the song ties in nicely if you're looking for thematic parallels. This one just happens to be a bit more meta in nature.

"Alterna" spell is called "Versus" so really, so it's still a word on its own, it also being a name of a song doesn't take away from the songs meaning.

Also the song Somnus plays every time you get a royal arm, and the first Royal Arm that Ardyn leads you to get in the game is, you guessed it. The song Somnus is closely tied with the royal family as it plays in scenes to do with the Royal Arms any time Noctis gets one, it's also referenced in Dawn itself, which itself is referenced in Noctis's theme, and it also plays as the theme of Insomnia which is the home of the Royal family, as well as in Magna Insomnia which is a fight where only those of the Royal family are present, and it plays again in Somnus Ultima at the climax.

The song is pretty closely tied to the entire Royal family, so the name imo feels completely fitting to be for the first.

What do you mean about Alterna being called Versus? Also the first royal arm is the Sword of the Wise, not the Blade of the Mystic.

Yeah, that's a nice way of looking at it. Maybe I'd notice that if I didn't ignore the Royal Arms all game lol. I didn't feel like they were any good, and I didn't feel like the presence of the kings mattered all that much until the end. Regis' presence and character as a king was more important, but they didn't really put the time into that relationship as they should have.

Alterna is called Versus in Spanish, and if we take the leak at face value, that world in Alterna is the "Versus" world.

Only read about the name

guess we have another hint for the name Insomnia.

Its called Versus in the spanish version, according to one 4chan leak versus was the name of the dimension of the dead, and essentially alterna sends your enemies to another dimension.. take that as you will.

I meant the first one that Ardyn leads you directly to. In the spanish version of FFXV the spell Alterna is called Versus.
I misread your post, my bad. Also pretty neat to learn that about Alterna, never knew. I feel like there's a ton of cool differences between all the different localizations.

Yeah, and because of how the song is used and the way it's all linked, for me it all related to the prophecy. The lyrics for Somnus are prophetic in nature. Hearing it in Dawn makes sense because that song is also about the same prophecy. Hearing it each time you get the Royal Arm I guess links it to the Lucis line, but I felt like it connected more with Noctis' destiny and attaining the Royal Arms meant for his fate.

Hearing it in Magna Insomnia and Somnus Ultima were also about fulfilling that prophecy, and I felt like that was done really well since the ending of the game is about fulfilling it and bringing it to conclusion. Because of the lyrics of the song and the story behind it, and the uses of that leitmotif in the game, Somnus always felt like a prophetic song about the tragedy and awaiting Dawn than one about the Lucis family. I suppose it's not too far out there to put it as the Founder King's name, but it definitely feels like an afterthought.

Well the prophecy is related directly to him and to Ardyn himself too, since the whole Chosen king thing came first from Ardyn until he was cast into exile and his brother took the throne and actually made it so Noctis could even be born, and 2000 years later Noctis fulfills the prophecy set forth back then.

well the prophecy and the line of Lucis are closely related, their line only began to fulfill that destiny.

it does feel like an afterthought but if doesnt break anything established then its not a bad one.

it does give more context as to why the city is called insomnia.

No one's really arguing that it isn't an afterthought just that naming him Somnus has a lot of reasoning behind it if you think about it. Yes the song is prophetic in nature but the line of Lucis as a whole and especially the Founder King himself are all part of that prophecy as well since they're the protectors of the crystal until Noctis' arrival, are the ones that will deal the finishing blow to Ardyn in the afterlife, and Somnus himself is part of the prophecy's beginning. Yes Noctis is the one to execute the prophecy and command the kings in the final battle as he is at the center of it all but he's not the only part of it. The whole line of Lucis has a part to play in it.
