Has anyone played the previous games in this series? If so, are they worth a playthrough?
Battles are traditionally turn-based, with a rather basic rock-paper-scissors elemental system. There's tactics involved with whether you fight individually, or "pair" up both characters to inflict further attack damage, though at the cost of having monsters uniformly damage all party members. You gain monster genes and abilities as you go along and fight the various monster species. I think what I liked about the system, is that you instantly heal your HP after every battle, allowing regular random battles to be fairly challenging. At least, that was a feature I enjoyed until I began to attempt to attain all the monster gene abilities, which led to excessive grinding, thus removing a lot of the earlier challenge from the battles.
Of course, the first game is not quite indicative of what the latest installment will be/have, but I suppose if you ever find the series at half price on the App store, it's worth checking out. Unfortunately, I can't say for sure whether Chaos Rings Omega or Chaos Rings II are worth the full asking price.
