I keep seeing people say "she's supposed to be a mechanic, why is she dressed like a hooker?" and things along those lines.

She has a southern accent, and for those of you, who have never been in the southern states of America in rural areas like this, their mechanics are allowed to wear what ever is comfortable to work in. The attire she is wearing, is similar to what women down there wear. Since they are in the "country" it tends to be very hot. So to keep from over heating, they wear short shorts, and have their shirts/jackets open. The heels are to help them reach high shelves/places.

Even the men dress with completely unbuttoned shirts, a tank top, or no shirt on at all. She's not dressed like that, to give people boners, it's portraying southern American culture.(i'm half Cherokee indian, i visit south Virginia and north Carolina occasionally, since my tribe lives in both those southern states.)

You raise an interesting point. But I think that @yeah_93 is ultimately right; FF is a series with a LOT of fanservice. You might have a good point about the shirt, but if Cidney were just a classic male Cid, he wouldn't be in short shorts or thigh-high boots.

I'm honestly a little disappointed because the initial picture of her (the top one in the OP's post) as a woman covered in dirt and a trucker's hat without any particular feminine qualities seemed like a really promising chance for a different kind of female character. but then they go and make her another object to ogle. sigh.

that said, I'm still mostly glad they're playing around and doing something different with the Cid trope.

Yeah an object to ogle that also has to fix your car.

Meh, I feel people are looking to deep into this. Gladi has his abs out, and I could say that's "fan service" for the ladies. TO be honest, I see equality between men and woman in this game if anything.

I love her design. I think she looks great and I find her attractive Also looks a bit like some of the classic Cid's went into her design, which is a very nice touch.

I don't have a problem with her. People like to complain about everything today , it has become annoying as hell.
I, too, have been thoroughly annoyed by the criticism her character has received. I admit her glorious cleavage is male fan-service, but her outfit is no more gratuitous than Tifa's chest(peace & blessings be upon them), Lulu, Yunalesca, etc. And their has been alot of female fan-servive aswell(see X-2, Gladiolus, etc.). But everyone who I have argued with this about, seem to have no problems with those characters. I wouldn't be as annoyed if the criticism was consistent. And to be completely honest, I think it all the criticism comes for one simple reason.....

M'kay? lol alright the last bit was just a joke, not to be taken literally.

^Tifa's shirt was a crew neck, no cleavage in sight :p

I have no problem with the outfit but I heard the voice acting in the trailer was awful, hopefully for the trailer only and not indicative of the final cut. I only watched the JP version.

The only thing I noticed that bugged me is that Noctis looks kinda dopey when he walks. Maybe he's just a big nerd or something. And the blonde guy's hair bugs me a ton but I'd already seen it before. Massive duck fluff.

I see a rubbish character design that was obviously designed that way for fanservice. Plain and simple.

Frankly, I'm more annoyed than anything at seeing anyone with even a speck of negativity when it comes to the design get hauled over the hot coals on the internet. Some designs have simply never chimed with me. Never have and never will.

What do you mean? People have opinions both ways, I don't think anyone cares that much about it to how you describe it.

Personally, her design is pretty standard to me, the only thing you could call fanservice is her cleavage, which is pretty tame. People go to the beach and show their cleavage all the time, just like guys take off their shirts. It don't see it being poor design in that respect honestly. I look at all of her details, like her boots and the designs on the jacket which gives us a hint as to what the place she works at is. The goggles of course a staple for many Cids throughout the series.

But, as I say, you have your own opinion! That's completely fine, you are allowed every liberty to that. I guess I'm just trying to say that I don't think you should care so much about if people don't agree with you.

Are you guys seriously going talk in deep detail of the character? You guys will just be going in circles for this discussion. It's a matter of whether you like her or not. There's nothing beyond that.
Leave it at that and wait for info to come.
Well, it's only about her appearance. But I agree there isn't much to be said on the matter. You either like it, don't mind it, or you don't like it. And something like this can get pretty heated, which I find unnecessary to.

You said it was gratuitous and put it together with Lulu and Yunalesca who do bare their chests. While you can argue character features are never designed without a purpose unlike real life, some people do have big chests and it's just something they live with, not a service to anyone. That in itself is a whole other can of worms. Especially since while women come in all shapes and sizes, in the world of character design usually the only variables are height and chest size.

In the end, it still depends on Cidney's personality. I doubt she's the overjoyed, hyper type. That's just pure anime written all over it. But if she's the mature, grease-monkey type that she's portraying in her outfit, then that makes sense. Reminds me of Megan Fox in the Transformers movie. Still, the shorts is struggling to cover her hynie.
