This episode left a bit confused, Luna was at some point in Insomnia living?

I guess so. Either that, or that puppy ran halfway around the world in a single night.

Episode was a little creepy, but it was alright.

I preferred the first episode but I liked how this one touched on how Noctis and Prompto became friends. If it wasn't for Luna's lack of care for her dog then we'd be a party member down!

This actually was an improvement over the first (in animation too I think, although I only watched Episode 1 once, when it released).

I like how Prompto's younger self seemingly shapes who he is as an adult. There were some weird parts (what the fuck is up with the smelling letter haha. I guess he kinda has a crush on her), but overall pretty nice. And Luna here clearly shows how she is 4 years older than Prompto and Noctis, as they should be around 12 or 13 during this episode and she looks 16-17.

The two that follow should be interesting as well, because, supposedly, Ignis is foreign-born so his backstory could be cool, and Gladio has the whole family serving the King as bodyguards. I still remembering the whole speculation when the E3 2013 trailer released in which the Amicitia could be somewhat related to the Lucis royal family.

I like to smell new books, I think Luna just use some of her perfume/scent on her letters since shes all girly.

Yeah, smelling the letter makes sense, it's used to remind him of what his driving purpose is that he believes Luna has set for him.

Why do I get the feeling they'll show Gladio's or Ignis' backstory on the next episode?

It was always supposed to be based on Tokyo.

Smelling letter/books can be pretty normal, well, at least for me especially for letters, sometimes people like scenting them.

I used to make fun of Prompto with the camera obssession and found it silly, so I didn't expect the story behind it to be actually touching.

I appreciate how Prompto was portrayed and Noctis too. But I'm not sure I care about how Luna continues to only do things based on how "it will help Noctis". Now, normally I wouldn't be bothered by it, but I've noticed that most of Luna's motivations seem to revolve entirely around Noctis. Oh, she might help someone like Prompto along the way, but it certainly does seem like she's a bit obsessive about Noctis, even though we haven't seen them share a single scene together yet outside of when they were kids.

But, that's minor and I'm hoping I'm wrong about that. As for Prompto, he was my least favorite member of the group because he came across as a cowardly idiot to me. But now that he's been fleshed out a bit better, I find him a lot more tolerable.

Nah, I honestly get where your frustration is coming from. In recent FFs, the heroines have shown a strong sense of individualism. Luna, on the other hand, is reminiscent of the older heroines eg Rinoa, whose purpose is only to contribute to the main hero's development. When you look at it this way, it seems so disappointingly backwards. This is why I'm not too hopeful about Luna's characterization (despite everyone being "she's strong!!" in Kingsglaive) because so far she feels more like a sub character, not a heroine.

As pessimistic as I am in regards to Luna, I prefer to be proven wrong. So we'll see if she develops outside her dedication for Noctis.

Maybe she's a little obsessed over Noctis because she loves him...? Did you guys forget about that? Luna is the Oracle of the world, she has a duty to protect the world, and knows that Noctis is also the key to saving the world. The prophesy fortells a day when the king will battle against the darkness and bring peace to the world. Everything that is done in Kingsglaive is for the future king, it's for the the sake of the people of the entire world. Without Noctis, the world will be plunged into darkness forevermore. When the world is in ruin and the skies are blackened, there is one person who can stop Niflheim, retake the crystal, reclaim his throne, and save the world from destruction.

I think that's a pretty good reason to be obsessed over him, especially when you're romantically in love with him.

You have literally no frame of reference on this. You don't know her character at all yet.

I said this same thing to someone who claimed that the young Gladiolus from the anime was a better character than the adult in the main game. The reality is, it's the same character, it's just that the anime is the only story where his character has been fleshed out at all.

Kingsglaive Luna is the same character as video game Luna. The only reason people feel differently about the two is that some people have seen Kingsglaive and we've seen very little of her for the main game.

I agree, we don't know enough about Luna (or any of the characters, really) to get a full understanding of them.

Eeexactly. Showing devotion is by no means, a bad trait, but what is she beyond it? For example, Lightning in XIII (before you point out she's the main protagonist, we all know in XIII she's just the face; the cast worked like VI's, everyone is a protagonist) was obsessed in doing almost everything for Serah, but there are other areas in her character that are being explored, such as her ignorance of her mistakes and brash actions, etc etc. I'm looking for hints that Luna is going to be a layered character beyond her purpose, not just a convenient plot tool to add support for Noctis' growth. If her character is going to be shown strictly within her purpose, then her exploration needs to be as deep as Yuna's, who was in a similar role (the conflicts within her, etc).

I'm going from what I've seen so far, it's like you skipped what I said in the end:
I'm expressing my feelings from my first impressions of what has been revealed. I apologize if it seemed like I already had a complete judgment of her character, but that's not what it is.

I'm worried because she's the main heroine but is not part of the party, thus she won't likely get enough focus. It makes me wonder how defined will her character be? That's why I said, I hope I'll be pleasantly surprised and my worries will be proven wrong.

I wasn't trying to, like, call you out on anything. You were just kind of separating the two like they're two different characters and I was reminding you that they're the same. It was really to set your mind at ease about your disappointment so far. I'd take the Kingsglaive impressions to heart.

As for her devotion to Noctis, and forgive me because I don't tend to go too in depth on the lore before a game is out, but from the previews for KG, she seems to be under the notion that saving Noctis is saving the world. That devotion may not just be her feelings for him, but rather her belief that he is very, very important to the fate of the world. I don't know why yet, obviously, but I am confident it will be more compelling than a schoolgirl crush. Everything they've said about her points to her being a strong person, and one devoted to her people.

Yeah, I guess I just really need more reassurance. We'll see!
