I'm ready to like it, but I don't totally get it yet. I'd never heard of this type of game before, so it's a completely foreign concept to me.

But, I did get into this one PC pinball game back in the 90's. This was the only pinball game I ever liked, and I think it was because it had some big bonuses you could build up to once you got to know the table. Throw in legitimate RPG elements and neat visuals, different things to look at and the familiar FF tropes we keep falling for, I can see some potential.

I was this one. I think I just had a nostalgiagasm.

Edit: No! I played a lot of that one, too, but it was this one:

My family was super competetive. So, we all played this and kept records. By the end, if you're putting in a bid for the record, a single session could last hours.

Uh... *Ahem* Yes, so I've played this now. Kinda fun, also kinda not. I don't think it has the staying power (as in "staying on my phone for a long time" power) that KHUX (which I've been playing for 2 months now) has. There's not too much to do aside from the core gameplay, which is only decently entertaining. Though there does seem to be stuff you can only access at higher ranks and stuff. I'm gonna keep playing it for now.

But as for the gameplay, I wish the controls were a bit more fun. I've already seen this being compared to Monster Strike, and the two are definitely similar in some ways, but MS puts JMV to shame with its controls. I don't like MS that much, but I gotta admit... the flinging and coin collecting are fun. And there's nothing wrong with just tapping (dunno what else they could have done without fundamentally changing the game), but there's other stuff out there that feels a bit better. (And yes, I know you can swipe and hold, but neither of those feels spectacular to me either.) Though I do like how you swipe your monsters into battle.

My other minor gripe is that the sound effects feel unfinished. Not sure whether this is a real issue or whether they're just doing that mobile game thing where there are no sound effects where it feels like there should be. There are also a few other wonky glitches/errors that will probably get ironed out sooner or later, nothing game-breaking.

Anyone else here playing it?

I played it a little but not much, it's standard faire mobile game to me, not much to say about it from my perspective. Kind of reminds me of Record Keeper though more than Exvius for example

Yeah, I think "average" is a perfect way to describe it. I'm on the fourth zone or whatever right now and I'm really hoping the story segments come back. The dialogue and characters from the beginning were great and would really incentivize me to keep playing it.

I have played some games, the characters are fun but... I think I will not lost my time with this game. I already have droped Kindgom Hearts X because of Brave Exvious and Mobius so I can't see me playing this game that has nothing to do with the lore o FFXV. If this game wasn't in FFXV I think it will never caught my attention in first place.

Thinking more about this game and Monster Strike made me realize that they should turn TWEWY's "tin pin slammer" into a phone app. C'mon Square, do it. That game was actually fun.
