Seriously, don't upgrade your TV, there's no point. If you don't have a 1080p TV, upgrade to that. No sense in shelling out for a 4K TV when most games will NOT be running at 4K. Any graphically impressive games will run at 1080p 60FPS or 1080ps 30FPS with considerable graphics performance.

Your standard 1080p display will get huge improvements to the graphics with the Pro, you don't need a 4K TV unless you really need/want one.

Basically, yes.

It's the little brother got a shiner toy syndrome.
Let me just restate this here. The new footage from XV on the PS4 Pro CONFIRMS the graphics performance improvements at PAX were running on the normal PS4/XBO hardware. Anyone who thinks that PAX gameplay was from the PS4 Pro is an idiot.

None of the games will be in real 4k. Except for, like geometry based games or something, but the 4k part is an upscale, not an actual resolution increase. I read a thing on it. It seemed like that's a bit if a simplification and it looks nicer than you might think on a 1080tv.

That said, there are advantages worth getting for a 1080 tv, too. You definitely don't need 4k to want this. Youll want this like you'll want any other mid-generation upgrade. It will run your games better. Even non Patched stuff should have better contrast and more vibrant colors. Games with patches for it will look like the pc version on year old mid range rig. A nice, completely nonessential but noticeable difference.

I can make use of a second ps4. I'm setting up a game room in anticipation of my VR system to be named later, which means I'm going to want, probably, to use the old one as a Netflix machine in my bedroom. So, it might also be worth it to add a new tv to the mix anyway. 4k is getting cheap, too. A friend of mine just got a 50" for around 750. Come tax return season, I'll have a couple grand to blow and, god willing, no girlfriend to spend it for me. I'm gonna build the sickest game room you've ever seen.

Oh yeah, well you're wrong and stupid! I just read a nice writeup on gaf that looks like a nice, simple explanation. Dummy.

Very interesting link.

Didn't get to see the live stream.

So, depending on your television it will use that extra power to bump the resolution to 4k or boost performance in 1080p.

For me, in XV, performance seems the obvious choice - I'm gonna hold off on any tv decisions before Tabata and other game companies clarify their strategy.

Was happy to see FFXV in the PS Pro sizzle reel. Was disappointed by the exclusion of Last Guardian and Dishonoured 2 (Which come out shortly before PSPro) but I will definitely be getting a Pro at some point. I have a 4K TV that doesn't do HDR, which is a bummer but the possibility of a smoother framerate, or simply sharper visual fidelity is enough to sell me on it.

I do REALLY hope Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne get a "Pro Mode" though.

I think it will be in just about everyone's best interest to go back and add a patch. All it will do is make the game relevant again and could lead to extra sales for very little work (in most cases)

Yeah, I hope you're right :)
Bloodborne in particular seemed like an odd omission during their press conference, since that's one of their bigger first party exclusives... that also had a few technical issues..

Personally I would only want the PS4 Pro for XV (and KH3, but who knows when that's coming out *Prays to Nomura for 2017*) but I'm waiting for like Digital Foundry to come out and say what it plays like on the PS4, PS4 Pro at 1080p and PS4 Pro on a 4k Tv. I currently do have a 4k TV (sadly no HDR) but even then if the improvement isn't that significant, or if the price to performance ratio isn't that good, then there's no point really (or at least IMO)

Ordering mine today. FFXV, Horizon, Mass Effect: Andromeda, God of War PS4, and FFVII Remake are gonna melt my face off while playing then on the Pro.

Ahh guys, have you seen the thing that some PS4 Pro compatibility patches may cost money?

Source: http://neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1276189

If this is true, it makes a case against getting it for me personally. I mean, this is ofc SE starts charging for the patches or someshit.

EDIT: Looks like the thread updated, its not that big of a worry. Phew! Okay looks like I just have to find a willing buyer for my PS4.

You should have read further.

"This is only potentially for games released before October. Games with a launch date after October will have to support both without additional cost."

Full stop.

That's ONLY for games that existed prior to the cutoff. It's incentive for companies to create patches for the older games. All FUTURE games will require the patch for free.
