Is it true that he didn't want to acknowledge FFXII?
i think i read somewhere he gave up from the game after a few hours.
According to FFXII wiki page on FFWIKI:
Trivia said:
Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series, didn't play the game through to completion because he was disappointed by the departure of the original producer and director, Yasumi Matsuno

Damn that's harsh.

Although I had the same reaction when I tried that game. Only got a few hours in then stopped. Vaan and Penelo just turned me off the game for some reason. I'm willing to give it another go when the re-release comes out though.

Did Sakaguchi ever play XIII or XIV?
If you look at what he was doing at the time, I doubt he had the time or energy: he was creating Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, The Last Story... Basically, he was establishing Mistwalker as a company with a catalog. He also felt that the FF brand was out of his hands at that point, and let them take their own direction with it.

I'm still sorry he didn't managed to get Cry On off the ground. Looking forward to Mistwalker's new home console project.

SQEX has been pushing to regain player trust in the entire FF series since 2010, when XIII undermined (in most people's opinions, not necessarily mine) and the original XIV completely tarnished the FF brand. Both Yoshida and Tabata said it would be an uphill slog.
I couldn't help but chuckle a bit, looking regain player trust after what they did to XV, all they deserve is a boot to the head, hopefully 2020 is a much better year

Right @llazy77 ?

At this point in time, better to move on to Persona 5, Breath of the Wild, you know games from actual trustworthy companies. Oh and play Witcher 3

I wasn't frequenting gaming forums back then so I honestly wouldn't know. Anyone here during that time? Could you clarify which is worse?

My guess is FFXV is worse because of the 10 year wait, the marketing/trailer controversies (expectations and whatnot), story patches, DLC, development issues, combat, open world etc etc

It's a massive target for hate and intense scrutiny.
XV gets hate because it's XV, not because of the 10 year wait

Naw it gets hate because the storytelling is trash, especially in comparison to the FF standards such as 6,7,8,9, and 10.
They way overpromised, and underdelivered an undercooked mess, still a good game but it needed to be much, much more, especially when you take certain things out of it.
If XV was Breath of the Wild level of greatness, or FFX level of greatness, then no one would complain about it, but as it stands the hate it gets it's because of the game itself.

He doesn't look happy in that photo. I guess he's just taking it all in stride.
Well that's what happens when you work for Square Enix, and they had you a mess and make sure your destined to fail expectations that is really it. If Tabata got to make FFXV, not trying to make Versus XIII within something that doesn't fit it well, just give him free reign to make his own game, nothing from Versus XIII. He probably would blow all expectations.

That is something I wouldn't pay a penny for. I won't be using it as I am not a fan of AfroJack. I always skip his track in the Regalia.
Likewise. Not a fan of his music but it's a good option for those who do I suppose. Not a fan of the aesthetics of the weapon either.

"Fixes and omissions" isn't something they're deliberately keeping focus from, those things just don't happen within a single day with only a snap of a finger, BD2 have a set schedule adhering to their road map plans.

If the latter is related to story content issues, then as mentioned before, we'll start seeing more of that once we pass their short-term plans.

as much as im curious to try the multiplayer, i couldn't agree more.
I'm gonna have to agree with this.

Yes, I know different departments handle different aspects of development. However I can't help but think that I'd prefer those resources and that time to be spent on the story fixes.

For example instead of working on avatar creation systems and multiplayer stuff, the budget and time could be put into producing longer, or more cutscenes, in the main game.

So resource allocation is my main point.

We should consider that what the devs believe needs fixing might not be the same as the fans (AKA: YourMileMayVary)
Touché.

Very valid point.
