i get your point ultima, my take of the situation is that they're obviously trying to cater to both casual and hardcore players, they need to make sure the game stays relevant for both; another thing is that the last survey is recent so all the possibilities hinted there might not materialize as soon as we wanted.

I'm really just waiting on fan meeting tomorrow, even if there is a chance that this may be the final gamescom announcement. Who knows, maybe this announcement could be it for Gamescom and that they're saving the story content stuff for a later event (not that i'd be too happy but honestly it is probable at this point), or even the next day.

I get feeling anxious (to a certain degree), and while waiting can be a drag, if it means getting enhanced narrative content when its ready & scheduled then so be it.

If plenty of us could get past the 10 year wait, then this literally not a huge big deal in comparison.

I understand the frustration and problems some of you might have with the current announcements of stuff no one asked for and your worries about this possibly taking away resources from the "fixes", I will not argue againts your sentiments but I will give a possible answer as to why all of this "unnecesary" stuff is happening:

Yesterday we got a reconfirmation that XV won't get a sequel, via Polygon having an interview with Tabata and he said something interesting during that interview:

In simple terms, they want FFXV to stay relevant for as long as they can.
I'm very sure Tabata and team are aware that delivering any of the "big fixes" (story and gameplay) fans want will take a lot of time and very surely know that this time gaps can kill fans interest/attention, making this "big fixes" probably not worth investing if they don't have enough people still playing the game. Making all this distractions (Episode DLCs, free updates, Collaborations, other extra Universe material, etc) is their means to keep people talking about FFXV.

I don't know how much resources this Assasin's Creed x FFXV collaboration might have cost but, if they can do all this stuff while potentially (we have no confirmation at the moment) developing any of the fixes promised in the last survey then one of the conclusions I can arrive is that we perhaps are downplaying how much resources Bussiness Division 2 have at their disposal, I am not saying they have tons of gold saved on their pockets to spend, I am just saying they likely have just enough to deliver everything/most of the stuff they have on their schedule.

That's my perspective on the matter. I recommend just being patient and have a bit of hope, just like some of you/us had during the VSXIII era and during the years, months and days leading up to XV's release date.
Very well written @Lulcielid

This is why I post here and not anywhere else due to solid arguments such as this.

Your points make complete sense. With that being said, alongside creating free dlc and other stuff in between the story patch to maintain player's attention, they really should update players and at least acknowledge that they are working on the story in addition to these free dlc.

The fact that there are people getting frustrated and angry because they think SE isn't listening is a huge problem that needs to be addressed.

So SE does need to have better communication with its fans, because right now, people are feeling jerked around.

If you piss people off enough, they will
stop waiting and move on entirely - something I've seen quite a lot of people do since not everyone is patient.

I definitely get the sense that BD2 is using the FFXV Universe as an alternative long-term marketing scheme, yeah.

They've used the content-as-marketing tactic since last year, when they announced a free anime mini-series and a full-length CG movie intended to release prior to the game and keep the game on our minds. Even the Omen trailer, as an "alternate universe" scenario, played that same sort of role. And then, once the game released, they added festivals, costumes, new mechanics, and timed hunts on a regular basis to keep our attention while they developed the DLC episodes.

As such, collaborations and Pocket Editions and Ultra PC editions are entirely in-line with their existing strategy -- take most of the money you'd spend on traditional advertisements and redirect it into content that the gaming media will report on at minimal cost, fans will talk about at practically no cost (or even negative cost in the case of content which must be purchased separately), and sponsors will pay you for.

And, on top of that, I get the impression that some of the expansions are excuses to do R&D on Luminous, as well, what with additions like off-road driving, an in-game camera mode, parkour, multiplayer, higher-quality PC assets and effects, and a ridiculously intricate character creator.

So it might not even make sense to think of the additions as something they have just enough extra resources to deliver. It's more of a case of repurposing resources which would have otherwise been written off as advertising or R&D expenses so they can be used to create new content that can simultaneously serve those functions.

FINALLY. Some solid confirmation that they want to keep supporting the game after december. While these might confirm that they will start working on the poll stuff after, I hope they still have the resources to actually update the game via free patching.
I get from where you are coming but, I have an advise, always take direct confirmation over indirect confirmation, it will save you from unnecesary anxiousness and dissapointments.

from the polygon interview above

“I really do have that desire to depict Luna as an even stronger female personality,” Tabata said. “Obviously the first mission is to get ‘Episode Ignis’ [the third piece of story-based DLC] out. Then when we decided what we do with 15 after, is to decide that together with the fans and community and opinions, just like you gave.”

so yeah it's a case like we discussed earlier.

well i'd take an ardyn episode over anything, it would be my priority and i wouldn't be surprised if some of the options on the survey received a similar number of votes making it harder for them to decide but... what Luna needs is more nuance, more personality, more character beyond her oracle mantle, basically.

playing as her would already make the player feel a bigger connection, but personally i'd want to see her screwing with the empire plans and propaganda from the shadows, with her brother and gentiana trying to protect her from retaliation in a smart way, a sort of political intrigue... i really really don't want to see the perfect luna with perfect dialogue about cliches like restoring the light over darkness, supporting noctis and this stuff, honestly her dialogues in the game and movie were boring as hell (tho in the movie she was more cunning in a way).

would also be nice to see her curing the infected, but with an episode gone wrong, like the infection is so serious that she can't do anything but fight... and i'd love to see the gods and faith being more defined in this world.... tenebrae obviously should be the main area of the dlc.

edit: playing as a mage-character could be amazing with this fast battle system if done right

Now this is what I'm talking about.

Something to let the fans know that they're being heard.

Episode Ardyn and Ifrit/Astrals would be my top choices for content.

Hopefully this interview will quell the rage for some of the fans for the time being.

That and maybe parts of Altissia. Perhaps she had to do some things before being able to actually summon leviathan. Regardless, pretty cool!

Ridiculously frustrated right now, unless this isn't the "big announcement" that Tabata mentioned.

I am Final Fantasy XV's biggest fan, lover of its characters, designs, lore, and even the story backdrop. I was deeply disappointed with the story presentation and clear missing pieces, which I was ardently hoping would be the announcement we were waiting for: fleshed out cut-scenes for so many missing pieces. While FFXV does have humor, it's an epic tale that takes itself seriously. Instead, we appear to be getting this!

In the context of a story-complete game, as well as if Tabata hadn't suggested they were going to "fix" the story, I wouldn't mind these silly collab things. But in light of all of the above, it feels cheap and odd, even if it may be a little fun. For example, the Empire appears to be basically cut from the second half of the game, an Empire we hardly even saw but just suddenly disappears off the face of Eos. Now they have a chance with this DLC thing to actually fix the Empire scene that resulted in Jared's death, and instead they do this weird, goofy Dream thing with Loqi.

And no need to remind me that this is "free." I know it's free, but I'm also aware that (1) these free things clearly take a lot of resources to develop which could have been used for better things that most of us really want, and (2) no one asked for it while the community has been consistent in asking for a few things like (a) story cutscene updates, (b) meaningful side-quests. I imagine adding cut-scenes would be so much easier than creating this Assassin's Creed thing.

Is this supposed to make Square more money or something? I feel that we, as a fan-base, should let Square know that this was a silly decision in hopes that they'll get their priorities straight. This isn't entitlement, it's communicating to the devs what we really want.

Here's to hoping that cut-scenes, a coherent, self-contained narrative in the main game, is on the way.
Amazing post, all this side content they are putting all this time and effort in is getting annoying. If the main game was fully fleshed out then yeah this stuff would be cool but there are so many missing pieces in the game left unadressed, and they keep showing us this stuff instead, its hard to care about it. They should focus on getting all the story fixes put in first and foremost that should be their top priority and by doing all this stuff it dosent seem like it is.

I understand the frustration.

However after reading Lulcielid's post above, it's starting to make sense why they're releasing these things.

They're trying to keep the conversation about FFXV going to maintain interest while working on the dlc, as indicated by Storm's post above.

Go read @Storm, @Lulcielid and @Ikkin post up above. It will start to make sense. However I do agree that this can be confusing and frustrating since at first glance, it seems completely random and nonsensical.

Would Episode Ardyn be during his reign in Solheim 2000 years ago or during his time in the Empire? If the former, I would rather be an entire game to be quite frank.

If it was to take place 2000 years ago, I'd rather it be an entire game too.

However the issue lies in creating the assets for such a setting to take place.

I think it would take place during his time within the Empire since they might not have the time and budget for the former.
