Was Aerith made for lisp speakers

While the name Aeris is used in the original Final Fantasy XII game, They accidentally translated her name to Aerith in later games, such as Kingdom Hearts. Her name got translated that way because a common mistake while translating Japanese to English is the "su" from Japanese. is translated to "th" usually.

Earisu -> Aeris -> Aerith

So Square Enix basically trashed the "Aeris" and stuck with the "Aerith" Although, people have stuck with "Aeris ultimately, I'd say it was your choice to say.

As I recall, although her name defaults to Aeris in the naming screen she is named "Aerith" in the FFVII base code similarly to how Cloud is Ex-SOLDIER until you reach the opportunity to name him. In a Famitsu interview after the game was released in Japan, it was said that her Japanese name was meant to be an altered version of the katakana form of the English "Earth", and was intended to connect her with the planet. This points at the actual translation indeed being Aerith, despite that fact that the ending "-su" can be translated to either an "s" or a "th".

Yes, this is correct. I'm not sure why they changed Tina to Terra but I know a lot about Aerith (or if you prefer Aeris) and Ehren is much smarter than I. Perhaps they wanted to fix their "mistake" as how they gave Final Fantasy VI it's original name when ported and re-released in NA, instead of Final Fantasy III?

This is a possibility. VII is overflowing with translation errors and grammatical gaffs. Let's not forget that this is the same game where the same Aerith we're discussing now says "This guy are sick". It sounds to me like the original localization team basically flipped a coin.

I actually prefer the name Aerith to be honest.

Yes, they fixed most of the grammar and spelling errors but did not change the default name input. This was, I believe, a nostalgia move since you can rename the characters to anything you want anyway. Then there are characters like like Lenna from Final Fantasy V (originally mistranslated as Reina) who had their names updated anyway in re-releases. And, as previously mentioned, we have characters like Terra whose English names are absolutely different from their JP counterparts. And of course, there's their sometimes odd pronunciations of things.

Can you ban this guy and delete these threads? He's an obvious troll, he even made his birthdate 9/11... it doesn't get any more obvious than that.
