Eidos, subsidiary of Square Enix, just announced their newest engine for PC and consoles Dawn Engine™. The visuals from this screen shot are pretty impressive, but a video will tell us more about the capabilities of this new engine. Needless to say, it looks pretty impressive from what we can see here.

We were teased the idea of a new engine from Eidos in September when the trademark for Dawn Engine started showing up on various websites, listed only for Europe and not Japan, hinting at something in the works from Eidos.

The studio has been hard at work, and we’re proud to announce today Dawn Engine™, our game engine designed exclusively for PCs and the new generation of consoles.

In the past, we’ve relied on existing engines for our games. But in the end, we found that our creative vision was somehow limited. So we decided it was time for us to invest in creating an engine tailored for our needs.

The result of this work is the Dawn Engine. Based on a heavily modified version of IO Interactive’s Glacier™ 2 engine, it represents the beginning of a new era for us. Our ambition is to build upon and improve both the visual and immersive artistry in our games, whilst also strengthening both the gameplay and storytelling experiences we strive to create.

What are your thoughts about this new engine? Are you looking forward to future Eidos games taking advantage of these enhanced graphics and other features yet to be seen?

Pretty impresive. Graphicaly i dont dought it will be top noch and with new tech you can improve the experience. Although there some aspects that dont necessarily improve by using more powerful engine like : storytelling, gameplay, innovation or general game design to name a few.

Off topic: when do you think we will see a Luminous Engine 2(not 2.0, that is still Luminuous Engine 1 but upgraded) ?

Yeah, an engine can't make a game good, but it gives it potential, hopefully it will be put to good use.

Not sure, probably FFXVI to be honest.

I really wish I could hear dubstep in the streets in Deus Ex Universe. Plus the graphics!

Looks like E3 2015 is going to be the biggest yet
Especially for Square Enix. It's about time they announce the release date for their triple A games.
