Sorry if a thread like this has been done before.

But am I the only one who feels the final fantasy games are going In the wrong direction, I have not enjoyed playing a FF game since FF10.
I miss the old battle systems and strategy that come with that style of battling, also miss having multiple characters to develop and choose from to form different party, levelling up systems etc.
I only keep buying the games cause I hope they get it right but constantly get disappointed.

Can't they just make games like the used to just update the graphics, there is a reason why they were great games.

So worried they are going to ruin ff7 with gameplay I'm sure the story and visuals will be amazing but if it's like 15 we gonna lose so many elements that made that game great.

don't remember old battle systems relying in strategy or been hard, only if you're talking about titles up to V.

you could form a party in XII and XIII, so i guess your problem with the franchise lies in another aspect.

They are still considered good/great games regardless of what battle system they used, that alone should tell you that FF still resonates and appeales to the public and fans.
They new gameplay might not appeal to the old fans but great gameplay is still great gameplay regardless of what form it takes.

If they're ruined then just don't play them.

I have been a fan since FFVII (it was the title that introduced me to the series) and I had the same concerns as you do but after playing XV I have to say I actually love the depth and strategy the new battle system offers not to mention it is better for immersion imho. Is it perfect? No...but it is fun and strategic and doesn't get tedious. For some of the classic titles that are sold on Steam you can find graphic mods for and they play on the exact same system...maybe that would be more up your alley?

    Final Fantasy games amazing.

Am I the only one who feels FF is going in the right direction? I have enjoyed playing every FF, including FFXIII.

What you say is your opinion and this is my opinion. But hell, the day that FF goes back to turn-based is the I quit playing games. FFIX was fun, but the broken atb system was the worst.

I'm with you on this with the technology out these days I don't think turn base combat would work well with game play style of games these days
I think final fantasy x was last turn based game i played even tho it's one of my favourites and it felt right back then, I personally love the fighting style from XV

FFX was probably the best ATB type FF game for me. There was no nonsense. You knew when your character was able to attack. However in FFIX, even if you press attack, you don't know if the enemy or enemies will attack before or after you. It was a complete mess.

I know how you feel. But for me its really the lack of a good story that seems to be the problem - I don't care about the characters the same way i did before. Thats really sad.
The gameplay is good, I welcome the changes.

I was so worried about FF a couple of years ago with XIII and XVI 1.0 - things were SO BAD. But, XIV 2.0, XV are good titles, and somehow I now feel optimistic about the future for Final Fantasy. Things are turning around now. And Square Enix seems to focus on the fans, community alot more now than before. We now have Kingdom Hearts 3, FFVII remake and XVI to look forward to!! =P

Final Fantasy XIV is by far the best FF game in the series in my opinion. If you're worried about the state of Final Fantasy, play XIV.

Doesn't it take like 100 hours to even get to the good part?

Don't quote me on that, I haven't actually played it. Just going off what I heard, the part of the game that gets described as "one of the best FFs" is Heavensward and content leading up to it. Early to mid game is often considered meh.

And while 100 hours may be considered very long for a single player game, it's not really that much by MMO standards.

    Can confirm.

It's an MMO dude, I expect to play this game for literally 10 years. 100 hours is nothing. Also, it's not even true. It's not surprising that you would immediately jump to a conclusion like that for the sake of justifying a preconceived opinion.

Right. I personally find the game from the very beginning to be highly entertaining. Over time the story has improved and the content has gotten better. I've never played the game and thought "wow this is really boring". The only people that will have a hard time playing early sections of the game are people who don't like story and only are here for the MMO aspect. If you like the story, you will enjoy every bit of time you play in this game that surrounds the story. It's one of the ONLY Final Fantasy games that has made me cry (multiple times at that) and has presented plenty of characters that I've connected with and look forward to seeing where they go in future patches. There's also lots of plot lines outside of the direct main scenario which has their own characters and stories behind it. Then there's all the lore that goes into detail about the world which is extremely rich.

Honestly, Final Fantasy fans who enjoy story should 100% play FFXIV. Many people just immediately reject it because it's an MMO without even looking into the game at all and it's kind of frustrating when I see these same people complain about the current state of Final Fantasy. XIV is proof that FF has what it takes to tell compelling stories with a beautiful world and lore to back it up.

I could go on and on, but I'll spare you guys the wall of text.

Didn't think about playing FFXIV before but these posts have piqued my curiosity about it.

For those who have subscribed for a very long time, do you remember how drastic the differences between 1.0 and 2.0 is?

They are one in the same aren't they? Same world, characters, story etc etc?

Never been the type to play MMO's so this will be my first one if I decide to take the leap.

Pretty much FFXIV 2.0 is a sequel to 1.0. The world is the same, with the same and new characters alike. The game system itself is drastically different, in terms of how maps work and battle gameplay. It is now much more user friendly. In 1.0, everything was a grind to the point that even traveling from point A to B was a grind itself. Not to say 2.0 doesn't have any grind elements, but it does have more of a guided grind.

There are many things you can do in the game, but not everything will appeal to you. So you may run out of things that 'you' are interested in. But practically speaking, there is enough content in there that a single person cannot complete everything.

The game rolls out regular updates, with major updates being implemented every 3 months or so, but there are smaller updates inbetween. There will be a new expansion coming out later this year, which is also a good thing.

If you are interested, just have a try. They have a 14 day free trial.
