Some minor updates for August. We'll try to push a larger update before the game releases. Here's what's new:
  • A bunch of changes in the back-end for security, spam reduction, and all that sort of stuff.
  • Better compatability with the Microsoft Edge browser.
  • Fixed some transparency bugs across all themes.
  • Search functionality tweaked to be more accurate.
  • User mentions now take accented characters (IE é) into account. In case that's ever an issue.
There'll be actual new features to come.

We are aware of the continuing 'Latest Replies' widget bug and we're working on a fix.

Also new: We're making major changes to how we handle what is and isn't deserving of a thread.

We made changes to thread rules back when we had a forum make-up that was smaller and some over-zealous users who posted far too much for the tiniest news update. We're moving away from that.

What does this mean? Well, I'm going to start off by encouraging everyone to move away from the 'Final Fantasy XV - General News Thread'. It will remain open, but around FF15 launch will be locked. It's time to let that one go. This thread has served us well but 200-page threads aren't good for the database and it also makes it harder for searches to turn up more specific information. I'm also locking and un-stickying the General FF News Thread.

A new General FF News Thread will be made to replace it, but we ask that it is used sparingly and only for very small/insignificant news.

This change is in part to prepare for the launch of the game, where for the sake of spoilers and being helpful to users who are stuck etc megathreads aren't going to be as useful.

How should you decide what to do with a thread idea? Use common sense.
  • Significant news, theories, or anything that you think can carry a discussion should be posted into its own new thread.
  • Anything small should find a place in an existing thread.
If at Gamescom Square Enix release new screenshots or a new trailer, they should be dissected in a thread of their own rather than a megathread now. If there's an ATR, that should get a discussion thread of its own, likewise.

Thanks for all your support; feedback always welcome!
