I wonder if the success of Bravely Default does has anything to do with this. It wouldn't be a random theory seeing as how Square Enix were so pleased with it they released those statements about it's success and it had them rethinking their plans.

Exactly. They know we want those games so they set aside a group to make those games while the try new stuff with the main groups.

I can't believe this just struck me recently, but...

Perhaps this studio/development team is being hired to make Agni's Philosophy?

That's the most prominent "scrapped" SE project in my mind. Unless they're preparing (an) entirely new IP(s), I hope that might be the case.

Hard to say. Right now, it sounds like they don't have much of anything.

I surely hope they start releasing games this generation with this new studio. But it does seem like they are just in the planning stages.
