If I don't see XV at TGS then it's no surprise for me anymore that its absent again, I'll just focus on other things. When and if it does show up at TGS this year then my excitement will truly get the better of me.

To put it simply, I'm more prepared for an absence than the long awaited satisfaction of new information.

A lot of the quotes you put together King Bimpy don't really tell us anything and aren't connected to each other. You're digging too deep into things.

And I made an error. Yoshihisa Hashimoto's CTO position remains vacant. On-going projects had to be filled immediately.
Yeah, I can corroborate this.

http://www.siliconera.com/2014/07/2...sa-hashimoto-leaves-company-personal-reasons/

"Square Enix’s Chief Technology Officer, Yoshihisa Hashimoto, has parted ways with the company, and while a replacement for his CTO position hasn’t been found yet, his other responsibilities within the company will be taken over by existing Square Enix staff."

"Following his departure, Driancourt Remi has taken over Hashimoto’s responsibilities as manager of Square’s Advanced Technology Division. Meanwhile, Hideyuki Kasuga will take over as the Technical Director of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn."

Although he left for "personal reasons", one can only hope that he repeated his behavior of departing when the engine is done or nearly done.

Who knows if they'll even publicly state when his position is permanently filled?

Remember that SE has an ongoing lawsuit on their hands, now: http://www.siliconera.com/2014/08/06/snk-filed-criminal-lawsuit-square-enix-copyright-infringement/

He worked on the Hedgehog engine and was with the Sonic Team for over 1o years. Shipped out a lot of titles across various platforms and directed Sonic Unleashed too. With the Hedgehog engine, he had something to show for it.

With Luminous, he has nothing to show for it. Only there for 5 years and the engine wasn't even ready to use as of last year. No shipped games. Nothing.

For those that haven't heard yet: http://www.novacrystallis.com/2014/08/final-fantasy-xvs-main-programmer-may-have-left-square-enix/

Yasui wasn't the only main programmer for the game, though. According to the FF Wiki, Hiroshi Harata was working alongside him as a co-main programmer, and is apparently the only one currently in that position.

I think too much is being made of this. People come and go and 5-8 years is a long time to work on just one thing; it's fortunate this guy is getting to go working on something else that he is passionate about. A side-scrolling RTS looks fascinating, it reminds me a bit of Swords and Soldiers HD (which was more MOBA-like than RTS).

Even still, in spite of how little this will likely impact the game's development, Yasui had been with SE for a long while. He counted KH I and II as products of his dedicated work, and had been attached to what is now XV ever since its inception as Versus XIII. His departure is so dissimilar from [Yoshihasa] Hashimoto's, because as an engine developer, Hashimoto has jumped around companies as he's pleased.

Still, Yasui is a programmer. No matter how many lines of code he's hammered into the game, programming is one of the most objective fields imaginable. Product Development Team #1 presumably soldiers onward, regardless of departures...

I think too much is being made of this.

Here's a job description of what a main/lead programmer does.

The Lead Programmer leads the programming team responsible for creating all the computer code which runs and controls a game. Programmers have various roles and specialisms including AI (artificial intelligence), game engine development, user interface, tools development and physics.

The Lead Programmer oversees all of this. They are responsible for the technical specification of the game and manage the overall code development process. It is also their job to make sure that the team delivers on time and within budget.

The Lead Programmer manages the software engineering of a game from start to finish. In conjunction with other key team leads (e.g. the Game Designer, the Lead Artist, etc.) they develop the technical specification for the game, and then delegate the different elements to their team of programmers.

They usually compile all the technical documentation for the software produced by the programming team and ensure the quality, effectiveness and appropriateness of all the game code.

They manage the production of the different 'builds' of a game (different versions, each an improvement on the last), ensuring that coding bugs are fixed and appropriate solutions found (or as many as possible within the production time frame), liaising with the Project Manager to make sure this all happens on schedule.

The Lead Programmer must also provide support and guidance to the programming team, making sure that the programmers understand the specification and have the right skills and training to be able to do their jobs effectively. Lead Programmers will also write a substantial amount of code themselves.
They still Hiroshi Harata, who is also a main programmer on FFXV. But maybe he left too so who knows!

I still don't see it appearing at TGS. Square-Enix still has games in the pipeline like Realm Reborn and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD that they're still marketing. I'd say a better glimpse at Kingdom Hearts III is more likely, if anything. It also slightly fits into the marketing of 2.5 HD as well. I personally won't be expecting any additional developments on XV until next year's E3 at the earliest. Which is shaping up to be one of the biggest yet.

Yes. The 1st Production Department Premiere event was about showing Japanese fans what that department was working on. They showed Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy Type-0, Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] and Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy.

If they were to do another one, it doesn't have to be just exclusive to what that department is working on. They do have some big games coming. Final Fantasy XV, Dragon Quest XI, Bravely Second, Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and Final Fantasy Explorers to name a few. I imagine there are games in development we don't know about either...

And it doesn't have to be just for Japanese fans either.

Luminous Studio is for 8th gen. There's no word on its progress. It was built not during the development of PS3 but around the switch of porting it to next gen because they had to rebuild a whole new engine. Also they are using the engine last, first using Direct X THEN porting it on to the engine so its in real time. SE already showed what LS can do in their examples http://www.siliconera.com/2013/02/1...ake-pretty-glass-bottles-and-other-tech-demos. Why SH left is most likely because he moved on to another project for another studio. Not because he had nothing to show when none of SE's biggest newest AAA titles have been ported to LS and console hardware yet. TGS of course can change that if a demo or intact none scripted footage of XV is shown.

sorry but DQ11 is “We’re working on a new Dragon Quest Monsters game, and its competitiveness will be as fun as always.” and “Up until now, we’ve continued working on remakes, but this time it will be a completely new title. Please look forward to it.” no word on DQ11 lol most likely handheld mobile....

If you read Slickyslacker's post, which I quoted, he said that he was hoping that Hashimoto wasn't repeating his behavior of departing when the engine is done or nearly done. I was pointing out that he didn't do that with his work on the Hedgehog engine. He stayed and had games to show for it. That's not the case with Luminous. He left without shipping a single game so therefore he has nothing to show for it.

According to the report, Horii announced that they’re currently working on the development of Dragon Quest XI, as the series nears its 30th anniversary (in 2016,) and he wants it to be played on the big screen.

He reiterated his previous statement that it is not being for mobile devices, but he also added that it’s also not being made for handheld consoles, but they’re currently developing it for the home console.

Pretty loud and clear.

Doubt it. Yoshihisa Hashimoto was the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) and Square Enix haven't had the chance to replace that position as he left for personal reasons. He was in charge of the tech so he had some pretty big and important responsibilities.
