Recently started playing secret of mana, quite a fun game.
It was my first RPG. I remember renting the game from Blockbuster and wouldn't want to give it back. Got stuck right before getting the Sprite, Popoie, because I couldn't figure out how to get into the cave. It took me almost a week and by that time I had to return the game. Convinced my parents to get the game for me after and everything after is a history. The Mana series was my favourite for a long time before Final Fantasy. I played FF3 (now FFVI) when it was released a few months later and didn't like it as much. It took me a revisit of that game to finally appreciate JRPG.

Oh the 90's and my teen.

I'm currently trying to play as many games from the 90's as possible, i need to have a good register of the past to appreciate the present and future of gaming, also because i want to be critic of that era that many people seens to consider flawless gold.

Oooooh. If the music is getting redone/remastered I wanna hear it. The OST was my favorite part of the game. Kenji Ito <3

Other than that, I hope they keep the female route feature from Sword of Mana.

Seems like this is not a remake, it's a brand new game. But we will see :)

Bit pointless to remake it for a second time, especially now since all the original staff are LONG GONE.

Brand new game for Vita for the 25th anniversary.

Well, the phone game collab is for Seiken Densetsu which was the first in the series, plus the title song of the game at the end suggesting that they're remaking it again...

Sure, it wouldn't be the first remake but it's probably got enough lasting appeal and room for improvement that it isn't that far fetched. If it was a new game they probably would have said there was a new game instead of showing an old logo of an already existing one... Basically, since the Mana series is its own thing now there's no reason to call it Final Fantasy Gaiden unless it's THAT game.

Edit: watching the trailer a second time, yeah it straight up says it's a remake of the first game.

In an interview with Dengeki, producer Masaru Oyamada states that this remake may pave the way for further remakes of the Seiken Densetsu series, perhaps leading to an eventual Seiken Densetsu 5. The team is also considering porting the game to PlayStation 4 sometime after the portable versions.
For me, the most exciting part about this interview with Dengeki is the possibility of an eventual Seiken Densetsu 5 (I guess Dawn of Mana is Seiken 4 in Japan.) This is long over due and to be honest a bit upset Square-Enix has left this series, along as other great series from the Squaresoft era, as status quo.

I'm also happy that they are porting this to Vita instead of just for iOS and mobile. There are certain games I really prefer to play on systems like Vita or consoles, this is one of them.

Yes, Dawn of Mana is Mana 4.

They ported the last one to Vita too.

And they haven't left the series. The creator left after World of Mana bombed but a few years later they did a Secret of Mana port and then made two new Mana games.

I guess what I meant was that they "left the series" in the sense that they no longer invest a lot of resource into it.

You see Mana, Front Mission, etc series popping out here and there, but they obviously isn't as focused as FF, KH and DQ. I can see why, but at the same time, I think they can still do a better job in making these title unique and satisfy a more niche fan base. This isn't just a Square-Enix issue, this goes for the whole gaming industry (and other medium as well like movie, music.) Generic blockbuster style entertainment taking up the resources of the entire company, smaller franchise either disappeared or left with a small budget and minimum marketing opportunity.

Luckily, the indie industry is thriving, so we do get more smaller games that get their spotlight. We also get companies like Atlus and Level 5 who are more willing to take risks at niche games. I personally wish bigger developers will let go some of their long-forgotten franchises they no longer focus on and pass it onto fans/indies developers to continue the legacy. Just a dream I suppose.
