@Kagari

Ah, now I can see why you called your own review "controversial", though I probably should have seen it coming from a long distance away.

I was slightly surprised by the number rating at the end. I say "slightly" because the review read like a 6/10, but you've made a clear, detailed and level-headed case for why you find it an average game, and too many forget that a 5/10 is equivalent in number form in a current gaming environment where 7/10 has been seen as the average. A bit disappointed as well, because I was cautiously hoping for this one to at least be unequivocally the more fulfilling and satisfying experience than FFXIII and FFXIII-2.

Quite a lot of the comments on Nova Crystallis though...oh dear lord, what can be said about some of them? I see the words "biased" or "unbiased" appear and I ask: what IS an unbiased review? Everyone has their own inherent biases when approaching a review, hence why they are subjective opinions externalised by the author regarding the product being examined. An "unbiased" review would simply be a product description. How would a review from someone more favourable to LR be less biased?

And I understand people who strongly disagree with the score, and perhaps some of Kagari's reasoning for fault areas, but the rancour is frightening and almost physically painful to read. I know not everyone commenting did that, and it's good to see voices of moderation, but otherwise, dear lord. Get a grip, NC. Seriously. It's an embarrassment unto itself.

Those are the kinds of fans that make me sick. 5 doesn't mean the game sucks, it means the game is average. The fact that the people on her own website are against her is sad.

PD: It was a nicely written review. You can't tell the writer is sick of the XIII series unless you know about her.

Saw it coming light years away.
Sucks that people are making up their mind from one review. Whether you agree or not with the review, damn. Play a demo or read a few reviews instead of latching onto one.

I didn't get how that score popped out after reading the actual review - several times, because I was still confused, like some people mentioned in the comments - but I'm not surprised by it.

Fans on both sides are going crazy.
I think I'll just go play some Journey now.

That's the problem.

Some people don't see a 5/10 as average. They see it as failure. Average would be a 7/10.

Some people still live and operate under the academic grading system to determine if something is bad or not. Sure, NC has their own grading system, but the problem here is that people aren't used to thinking and seeing things like that. It's a hard adjustment to make after one that was forced upon us for over 12 years in school.

Still, even if they know it's an average score, some people will see what they wanted to see (i.e. Erren wanted the game to fail, so she'd obviously give the game a low score). What's sad is that people complaining don't seem to have read the review.
