Can I freely level up in FFV?

In FFIV you obviously had party members coming and going, and becoming paladins no less and it made grinding kinda pointless. Are there any similar things in V? Or can I freely level up early in the game and it'll help me throughout the game including late in the game?

Final Fantasy V introduced the job system where you could switch your jobs freely and gain cross commands to use on other jobs. Yes, you can level things freely, you will likely want to max out the job classes when you get them if you're into that sort of power grinding.

Also in Final Fantasy V there are only 5 playable character, at any time only 4 permanent members will be in your party.
