Final Fantasy Record Keeper is the new moblie FF released on 26th March in NA and EU.

I expected it to be an utterly terrible cash-grab like certain other mobile FF game that should not be named. To my surprise, it's actually pretty good.

FFRK lets you relive battles from past FF games and recruit some classic characters to your party. Each FF has its own world which is divided into dungeons (after clearing Classic dungeons you unlock Elite versions which are much more difficult). Combat is ATB and in their turns characters can attack, defend, use abilities or Limit Breaks. There's quite a bit of character customization with loads of equipment and abilities available. An interesting feature is each character and piece of equipment gets a power boost when used in their respective game's world. There's also a big nostalgia factor with gorgeous 16-bit art style and classic FF music.

Of course like most free-to-play mobile games it's stamina based, so you can't play 6 hours straight, but rather in short sessions. That said, I haven't felt as limited as in many other mobile games and there's usually enough stamina to do what you want in each sitting. There's also some stuff that you can buy for real money but it doesn't really feel like pay-to-win. You can get additional relic draws (which randomly give you powerful equipment) but you can also buy them with mythrils which you get from clearing dungeons.

Record Keeper's biggest drawback as of now is too little content. I've been playing it once or twice a day for maybe a week and I already cleared all of the story dungeons. Fortunately there are currently two Event dungeons which are quite long, so I'm still occupied. From what I read Japanese version, which launched in September, has much more content so hopefully English version will be catching up soon. For example, there are currently only 9 unique characters available (+a few generic FF jobs), while Japanese version has over 50 characters from all FFs.

So, anyone played it? What do you guys think about this game?

I've downloaded the original Japanese version when it was released, lost a bit of interests back then as I was simultaneously playing Saint Seiya Cosmo Slot which was way fun. I did download FFRK when it was released here in North America, it's sitting on my home screen waiting for me to have it open. I guess after reading your small review, I might just do that tonight :D

I enjoyed it when I picked it up, but because my phone is not the place I go to play games, I completely forget about its existence (the game that is). Having to force myself to play the game once I remember it is not enjoyable... so, I haven't played it since i installed it. But, I did think for what it was it was cool.
