Final Fantasy VIII was released on Steam in December 2013, that's now 17 months ago. I literally asked Square Enix tonight if there was any word on a music patch like they did for VII but they couldn't give me an answer. I really want a PS4 port so I can finally play this game, but the lack of a patch makes it seem less likely.

I'm guessing you don't have a PS3 or another console that can play the original? I feel like a PS4 port is likely being that the VII one will sell hotcakes and Square will probably feel like even if they can earn a fraction of that kind of profit it'll be worth it for them to give VIII the same treatment. My guess is it'll be a good while, though.

There's already an awesome fan patch that fixes the problem on PC. It's super simple but SE probably just doesn't care enough. But I'd be pretty surprised if they wouldn't include the PSX OST in a possible Ps4 version though.

I have a PS3, but I don't want to play an upscaled 50Hz version.

Given that the CG backgrounds don't exist in high res and look like ass even in the PC versions (and the subsequent PS4 port of 7) the benefit is only really in battles and thus a lot less profound. The killer for FF7-9 is in Europe with 50hz, where the games run a 6th slower and are visibly worse for it.
