That's depending on your perseption and definition of reality,for ex:does modern setting=reallity or does reallity=present time or does reallity=recreation of a setting from "X" period of time?. Anything that is fantastic could be describe as base on reality. For ex: FFXII plot,politics,setting could be based on the reality of monarchy time and conflict in europe during the pre revolution era.FFVII based on the reallity of the conflict between the greed of capitalist corporation and environment/resources in the 80's/90's. FFVI based on the reallity of wartime cause by power and the terrible nature of it.
