I don't know, his art style in that game was a little chibi compared to FFXII.
However, he has experiences with drawing Ivalice so he seems the likely candidate.
Go for him or fresh blood. Either of the two.
Those "chibi" designs would have been by Ryoma Itō.

My dream team is based solely on current staff and possible freelancers, I don't exactly dream of new talent in key roles on a major title. Haha. All for new talent helping though.

Everyone who worked on Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger. Can't beat that line up. Back them all up with the expertise of Nintendo SPD Group 2 too. God tier stuff man.

Considering the low Metacritic score of Type-0 HD and the low sell through sales which may possibly spill over to FFXV (considering Type-0 HD came with FFXV: Episode Duscae, which still didn't interest the mainstream into buying it), I don't want Hajime Tabata on FFXVI. The game needs a director that has a track record of directing FF games that achieved both critical acclaim (Metacritic score 90+) and high sales (5 million+ worldwide).

The only suitable candidates are Yoshinori Kitase and Hiroyuki Ito. Considering that Kitase doesn't direct anymore, Ito really is the only suitable candidate for FFXVI. There's nobody else as qualified.

I don't think you should use the sale numbers or metacritic score on a PSP remaster as a metric of a good director for a mainline title.

Didn't many people already dismiss the notion that Type-0 HD's sales will impact XV in any way? What is even the point of expressing the need for Tabata to not work on it. He's working on XV, there's no way he would work on XVI. Bringing up the Type-0 stuff just doesn't make any sense to me outside of wanting to be pessimistic about Type-0 and Tabata. The poll results already conclude that the majority of those that voted want Ito to direct XVI anyways (myself included) so really there's no point in pushing towards the idea of this as you're essentially preaching to the choir here.

I don't think you should use the sale numbers or metacritic score on a PSP remaster as a metric of a good director for a mainline title.
You should if you want to build a case for your argument that has little to nothing to it, of course.

Agreed. Crisis Core is a great reason why.
No, Crisis Core is not a great reason. It never sold over 5 million+ worldwide. It also never scored 90+ on Metacritic. Matter of fact, Tabata has not directed a single game that has scored 90+ on Metacritic. Both Kitase and Ito have three under their belts, while Toriyama has one.

Oh no! Not over a 90 on Metacritic?! Say it isn't so!

Kinda hard to sell over 5 million on PSP, especially not a mainline title. I don't think Tabata will direct XVI anyway, I think he'll do Type-1 & Type-2, maybe even a sequel to XV.

Considering that most games Tabata has directed have scored in the low 70's range on Metacritic and how awful he is at making a good camera in his games, I don't want him touching FFXVI.

That's a good point if we completely ignore two facts
1. There's only one PSP game that maybe has sold over 5 million (MH 3rd - but there's no official info)
2. Crisis Core is still one of the best selling PSP game of all time (at least in top10 but like with most video games sales it's hard to find reliable info)

And metacritic score? Seriously?

Didn't you get the memo? Game publishers use Metacritic all the time to gauge the overall quality of their various development teams' work. I agree with the practice, as it allows good teams to be given more money for AAA projects, while shitty teams get relegated to Mobile development.

Square Enix is very fluid mate. There's no fixed teams.

There's definitely fixed teams in Square Enix. I mean this as in there being core teams. For example, if Ito has a core team of like 10 people, that will be a team. It's only when his team enters pre-production that they would need more people. Then when full production begins, they'll start to need like a full army of people. Finally, when their project is done and released, they revert back to 10 people and start planning a new project.

The only people who are fixed in their positions are people like Kitase, Toriyama, Tabata, Nomura, Yasue, Yoshida, Miyake, Tokita etc.

I find that hard to believe. Nomura works on games developed by teams all over the company, even with their Merchandising Division. Nomura is most definitely not fixed.
