I honestly preferred the presentation to it that way. Whether or not that was the intention, it gives off a fairy tale vibe that you wouldn't get if they made that an entire cutscene. They have other opportunities to explore that story if they ever pursue that in a new DLC or part of Ardyn's story if they do it.

But man, this opens up a whole lot of possibilities. If they continue this route of updating the game in increments, then they can do a lot with it.

For example, I'd LOVE to see the 2 minute scene from the Dawn trailer incorporated during the Bahamut scene with Noct. It would provide so much more emotion here, with Regis holding his son crying because he knows he will have to sacrifice himself. But, the scene would need to be expanded to further talk about what the Lucii and previous kings are in relation to the whole story, and could even further expand to what Noctis may have been experiencing while he was asleep (god I hope they focus on that at some point. Omen would be perfect)

But that's just one of many different things they could do with each chapter's setup.

Yes, I agree with the fairy tale vibe about that scene.

I think that was what they were going for so I appreciate it all the more now.

So many possibilities from hereon out as you said. And to think that they've got another year to only focus on the story.

This could be a major turn around for the game.

Here are the story update videos in Japanese and English in case anyone wanted to watch them but not play the game.

Japanese dub

(it's cool that they used a none in game thumbnail for this so it's spoiler free lol)

English dub

(I don't think the thumbnail is spoilery hence the share)

literally wasn't expecting this story update to come so soon.

what i liked
- more astral lore than you got in the entire game and ultimania (would be fantastic if they added CG snippets but i like that we got to see more of the cosmogony)
- noctis and luna love for each other strengthened
- gentiana's role as messenger better exposed
- foreshadowing of some future events (giving context to the ifrit's battle)
- music was great

what i disliked
- poorly edited mishmash of scenes (CG scenes + static ones), just felt cheap.

all in all i think this was an effective addition (they managed to do a lot with just a few more minutes), just imagine the game with more story content increments like that, i really can't wait; also, one month ago...

"When it comes to the hexatheon, there sure was a lot going on between them, but for now there are no plans on diving further into their backstory. They are a part of the magic of this world, and as such, tightly intertwined with it, but that´s all for now. I´ll keep it in mind though."

I feel the same, man, I feel Ifrit is now fully fleshed out in my opinion, anything else for him would be a bonus for me at this point, and I got to see a glimpse of Solheim, and it got mentioned by name, too. I like how the new story scenes were handled, but they could've re-worked the Dawn trailer scene to fit the in-game visuals, and could've shown the Nilflheim ships shooting at Shiva, but in the end, I'm happy and satisfied with what we got, especially with Gentiana, and it cements Ifrit as one of FFXV's best characters for me in my opinion. I also liked how Chapter 12 was re-structured in the Shiva segment. I can't wait to see what's next to come. Overall, I feel this was better than Chapter 13 Verse Two.

If they did something like this for every chapter in the game (but with more focus on the second half the game), it would improve significantly.

Make every connection with the Astrals more important.

Poor Ramuh barely had any screentime or importance.

Also... best Ifrit in FF imo. This one is actually interesting and vital to the plot.

I agree in regards to Ifrit, that was one of the best things of FFXV for me. I might as well have more lore in regards to the other Astrals will be added to the category of bonuses for me.

Seeing that we got more or less 8 minutes of new content which fixed many issues at once for many fans, I get the impression that we don't need an outlandish amount fixes to the story. Just some minutes (less than 10 minutes) distributed among certain chapters.

so there's a winged unicorn and a few other beasts at 3:45, messengers or regular monsters? man this segment + bestiary really helped deepen the lore.

also, think this the first time in the series two summons are in love.
Yeah, I liked the new segment, and I'm looking forward to the next story update. I'm hoping they update Chapter 11 at some point, it felt too short for me in the story and game-play department, we should be able to control Prompto after he falls off the train and when Ardyn knocks out Noctis, they could have us play as Prompto to try to catch up with his friends while fighting some MTs on the way, and ending up in the snowy area in the beginning of Episode Prompto to help lead into it's beginning. But that's just something I want that may or may not go anywhere, I hope it could happen, but at the same time, I doubt it'll happen, but I'm fine with it, but I'll always look at Chapter 11 as being short. If there was another Astral I would like to know about, it would be Leviathan, who is another one of my favorite Astrals alongside Ifrit, Shiva, and Bahamut, because for some reason, she hates humans, and the game doesn't reveal why, but that's just my thoughts. I don't think Leviathan will appear in Episode Ignis, bu there's hoping if she does.

Tabata did say that the lore revealed in ch12 will tie in with Episode Ignis somehow.

I'm guessing we're gonna learn more about the Astrals.

Here's my speculation as to what's going to be revealed in that episode:

We're gonna be older Ignis exploring the ruins with Talcott.

Maybe expect more lore dumps featuring Ardyn this time.

He did learn about Ardyn's past during one of these trips after all.

We will probably learn more about how he corrupted Ifrit.

I'm looking forward to Episode Ignis myself, as Ravus is in there, I'm probably more excited about Ravus more than Ignis, but hopefully, it won't get my opinions don't get in the way in the experience. But who knows, we could get more information on the lore, but I'm going to keep my expectations low in case something goes wrong, I don't want to end up regretting getting my expectations too high.

just found out on gaf
https://twitter.com/FFPeasants/status/913853538656247813

Cant wait to see how this update in his opinion is "it's a total mess of contradiction and cliches". How dare Tabata to not support Pitioss theory
The Pitioss theory originated from perona77, not FF Peasant.

I saw his livestream.

He's not "angry" that the story didn't support the Pitioss theory.

He's confused as to why Ifrit was
"dumb" enough to give power to beings who were flawed and arrogant.

As in Ifrit shouldn't have been surprised that humanity was gonna turn on him.

Peasant was confused as to why Shiva didn't turn on humanity when Ifrit did as well, since she scorned then at the beginning.

In other words, he is confused why Ifrit and Shiva did a 180.

He speculated that if Shiva loved Ifrit, why didn't she side with him when he turned on humans?

That's what he said on the stream.

I noticed a lot of people are saying that Peasant is annoyed that the new story update doesn't support his theory when that is not the case if they pay close attention.

I'm not a fanboy of his by any means but it's strange how people like to assume things instead of paying close attention to what is really happening.
