Damn, I kinda really wish it had remained a trilogy so we could've gotten insomnia as a more fleshed out location akin to Midgar which while not freely explorable you get to see enough of in the FFVII Remake to get a really good feel for it. To this day Insomnia still feels largely unexplored even after Kingsglaive, Episode Ardyn, and the Royal Edition update. After reading some excerpts from the book regarding the parts that would've been episode Noctis I wonder if they were planning on using it as the answer to all the cut Insomnia content from the trailers.
Here's an old concept panel from a few years ago. I was reminded of it by Ardyn's "I will never forgive you, Somnus" line as I absolutely recalled seeing this image before seemingly from Noctis's POV, and at a time when the moon had more presence in the game and was red.
It sounds like Noctis being in Insomnia may have been the first half or at least part of the first half before it was removed from the game and went on to become the Kingsglaive movie, but whatever the 'first half' was, its cool that he brought up those tidbits, especially it's miraculous saving.
Damn, that bit about it only needing 3 and a half years to be fully developed after being rebranded kinda stings. To think if Square had gotten their shit together sooner they could've released a far more complete initial product.
