Yes!!

I'm so fucking stoked that they're going to continue working on the game in 2018!

Being patient pays off. I'm hoping by the end of 2018, the game will have so much new content added that it'll be like playing a different game when we replay it from start to finish with the new updates.

For what it's worth, it's a good reason for me to keep coming back here and talking about this game with you guys.

Great community for following the updates for this game.

With this i'm assuming the Story content updates is what they have planned for 2018.

Damn, even though nothing was really shown, I'm glad that this was finally addressed. Literally in the best possible way. They really want to make this game the most complete story possible in the future. Thats awesome.

gotta admit it, was a bit iffy about the multiplayer in the beginning but it looks really good, the UI work is great also.

they teased about the guest composer of ep ignis but didn't revealed... bastards lol

Tabata actually explains why he couldn't say anything about the survey results -- apparently upper management only gave the go-ahead for BD2 to continue improving the story in the main game very, very recently, after the fan events in gamescom and PAX. Originally all of BD2 was supposed to move on to their next project starting 2018, but they managed to restructure the team and resources somehow to have a number of the staff continue updating the FFXV main story. It's heavily implied that Tabata himself will be moving on to his new project tho. This is the last ATR for FFXV, all subsequent news will come from a different channel (not clarified), from the staff Tabata's promoted to lead roles -- as an aside, every DLC and main game update so far have been directed by various BD2 staff, most of them in the "director" role for the first time. The latest Assassin Creed's Festival, for example, was directed by Prasert, an SE employee hailing from Thailand, and he was originally the FFXV lead game designer for the AI system.

Tabata also promised a new roadmap for future updates by the end of the year. Hype! Just don't take too long please Tabata... I've already waited nearly a year to get new story scenes, a whole extra year just to get the complete story is a little much =_= Also, try to be more precise with the roadmap this time...

matt091282 posted...
So, the ones in the trailer won't be out until early next year sometime, or are they do updates to the story through 2018?

I started watching the ATR right before Tabata came on, so I don't know if it was clarified before that, but from what I understand the scenes in the new Universe trailer will be in the next update. Tabata calls those scenes "the first step" to improving the story, and goes on to say that they will be continuing the main game story updates in 2018, so it sounds like we're getting the trailer scenes first, and then there'll be a lull until the next batch of scenes -- which will apparently be based on the survey results -- come next year. They've decided what to do with the survey results, but haven't actually started working on them.

Not only are we further investigating characters through additional episodes, if we don’t convey the setting that is the foundation of the world, we won’t be able to convey the characters’ way of life.”

Thats awesome if true, but damn that means they are going to periodically update the game with story, some now some later. Definitely going to have to wait till 2018 to really play this game out again.

Wait, so like making new areas playable? Is that what they mean here?

Edit: Oh wait more likely that they are totally gonna go into the Kings of Lucis, Solheim, Ifrits Betrayal, Starscourge stuff.

I am totally on board with them exploring more about the foundation of the world.

Great starting point.

The story will be more coherent with proper context if they start with the Astrals, Solheim, Ardyn, Kings of Lucis and the Starscouge.

Guys this is extremely exciting stuff!

It took awhile but it's great that upper management is letting this happen.

I mean damn, it's pretty unusual if you think about it so I guess we should be grateful that those guys are letting this come to pass.

I can only imagine what the meetings were like trying to convince them to spend 2018 on these free updates...

Here is an extended video of the Comrades gameplay I shared earlier.

The one before had 3 minutes cut off from the beginning. This one you see Monica and the menu for choosing quests as well as the interface for choosing the Kings of Lucis gameplay mode.

btw the "Choosing Hope" main theme was created to be like a gospel song, totally matches the "coming of the King of Light" theme.

i hope they can still update a bit of gameplay content, still waiting for bahamut post-game.

here's a full translation of the ATR by xxRainesXx:

https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXV/comments/71x6ms/tokyo_game_show_2017_atr_reuploaded/

This may be the very last ATR, but it hasn't been finalized.
  1. COMRADES will offer 2 modes, multiplayer and singleplayer content. In multiplayer you can play with bots. Singleplayer, you will be set in Lestallum and you will be able to enjoy it as a RPG-like game.
  2. The story is set when Noctis is missing and you will play as a Glaive during this time.
  3. Set in the World of Darkness, your goal is to collect meteor shard to power up power stations to provide electricity to other areas. You progress as you connect the power line and as you do so, you also unlock perks for your character.
  4. By completing quests, you can get items to upgrade your weapons. This aspect is a lot more expanded than the main game.
  5. You can rescue NPC's and have them settle in the town. You can also set a NPC to be the leader of the town, with each NPC Leader providing different perks.
  6. Sigils of the Kings - will provide different perks and give each player a certain role. Example, tanks and healers. Each Sigil will also provide different skills, such as ''Jump'', ''Airstep'', ''Taunt'' and ''Barrier''.
  7. You can communicate by a variety of preset phrases or voice chat.
  8. Sigils can be unlocked through the story.
  9. A special skill ''Cheer'' temporarily increase the parties powers.
  10. The demo was located in the abandoned Chocobo Post.
  11. The vocals for the theme song is sung by a high school student. A Japanese High School student. Sidenote; She is was very popular at one point (still is kinda), she appeared in commercials stunning people with her powerful voice.
  12. Tabata again says that he understands that there are many PC only players in the world despite the small PC market in Japan. And that MODS will allow players to create their own definitive edition.
  13. With mods, you can create your own quests for example. You can set the location, the enemies and the powers etc and share them on such as the Steam workshop. This will also be available in Single and Multiplayer.
  14. In regards to the VR game, Tabata explains why he chose fishing as the main theme. Although they attempted an action type VR game with Prompto last year, they figured that it was too difficult and the current VR technology did not allow for fast paced action with combo/link attacks. It would've taken a lot of resources and time to develop, so they moved towards a concept that allowed players to simply enjoy the game.
  15. Monsters of the Deep is Part 1 of the VR games. They already have plans to further develop a part 2 using their new found experience with part 1.
  16. An exclusive team has been working hard to develop Episode Ignis as the front of FFXV's last officially announced DLC. It will be filled with new information.

  17. A trailer for Episode Ignis may be available next month.

  18. Tabata and the dev team has been thinking if it's really okay to just let it ''end'' with Episode Ignis. With the survey that was done earlier this year, taking in the feedback of the players, everyone including Tabata, Ofuji and the development team thought about what they should do. FFXV has been to many different events all throughout the world and Tabata has been to each of them, meeting and talking to the fans. He asked what they liked, what they wanted and what they disliked. He thanks to all those that supported him and he says that after speaking to everyone, the biggest voice was ''Please don't let it end there'' and ''We want you to continue''. The demand for a bigger expanded story was big.
Tabata wants to respond to these demands from the fans. They want to continue expanding the game through 2018 next year.
He clarifies that as a company there are set plans and schedules and changing them is difficult. He apologizes that as a developer, their goal is to create new games. And he states that BD2 already has finalized their next big project, considering that, they thought about how they could balance this and continue to support FFXV next year. After after overcoming many obstacles and changing the structure of the development team, they are able to say that they are able to continue development next year.

  19. They already have plans for what to accomplish next year and that is delivering on what fans want most. They will continue to and further development the story, filling up missing information.

  20. It's going as far as a sequel, but it's about the strengthening of the existing game and story. Tabata acknowledges that there were lacking aspects of the game. Not just the back stories of the characters or character development, but also with the world and lore as the world itself has a story of it's own. They have received much feedback on these fronts as well as in the survey and they worked hard until now to create a development structure to be able to deliver with everything we got. And again now, they are able to say, that this will be happening.

  21. With the next update including story upgrades, it is based on the Summons. And this is just part 1 of the updates to come hereon.

  22. In the update will also include a connection to Episode Ignis that Tabata thinks is a very important part of the story that players should know.

  23. With that, they will continue to develop the world and it's characters in FFXV next year.

  24. Probably within this year, they will announce the roadmap of what they want to do next year.
That is all.

Note; Tabata used the phrase ''一年間’’ a lot, which means ''throughout the year''. Which may incline that they have plans to possibly continue development for an entire whole year. He could have instead used ''来年’’ (next year) instead of the former.
goddamn, respect for tabata to putting the effort for a new year of updates and yeah it's very likely new gameplay segments (in maybe new areas) will accompany the story updates.

Tabata and the team must have had LOTS of meetings with upper management to convince them to allow this to happen.

Bless them for doing that otherwise Episode Ignis really would have been the last thing for FFXV!

Now for the interesting part...

For point 20, "it's going as far as a sequel"... does this mean that the next project they're working on is something related to Ardyn?

I mean I do remember them saying that his story would take up an entire game after all. Could that be the "next project" they were talking about?

It's fantastic that they're going to be doing this for next year. I'm curious as to how much resources they will have on hand to go into detail with the story now?

It sounds very promising but I hope that it will be more fleshed out, unlike Ch13 V2, which was underwhelming if I'm to be honest, even if it did answer a few questions.

I wonder how many hours of updates we will be getting? Very exciting times ahead indeed.

I also wonder will the combat system in Comrades be added into the main game itself?

The Sigils of the Kings sounds awesome and tbh it sounds like something that suits Noctis more than Kingsglaive to use in battle.

Holy crap batman. A sequels worth of content? I was totally joking when i said "5 more hours of cutscenes and 20 more hours of gameplay" before lol. I'm sure its just a figure of speech and not that much, but now I'm much more hopeful waiting a decent time into 2018 for more than an hour of new content.

Well, I guess that settles the question of whether the Christian symbolism was intentional. XD I really like what I heard of Choosing Hope, and I can't wait for the full version to become available.

Could you imagine how epic it would be to summon Bahamut over Ravatough just as the sun is setting? =O I really hope they make that possible.

The amount of extra content included in the ATR is pretty impressive.

I definitely appreciate the inclusion of bot-assisted multiplayer in Comrades, which I would presume allows people who don't have PS+/XBL to play everything offline. I'll probably try to play online with friends at least a couple of times, but it'd probably be hard to play the entire DLC that way (and I'm not particularly interested in playing with randoms). The RPG elements seem more extensive than I expected, too, what with the goals of reestablishing the electrical grid and resettling NPCs in towns. I wasn't really expecting to play Comrades when they first announced it, but it seems to have turned into something I can appreciate even as someone who isn't a multiplayer fan.

I also appreciate the development of a second VR game. The more FFXV I can get for my PSVR, the better.

The amount of story updates that Tabata seems intent on providing is awesome as well. I'm probably going to watch new story material (apart from the DLCs) on YouTube until the updates run their course, but I'm definitely looking forward to a New Game+ playthrough with all of the added cutscenes. It kind of feels like getting the Final Mix+ version for free. XD

We fight 3 out of the 6 summons in the game. I know Ramuh is supposed to be neutral so he joins you simply because he believes in you after the trial. Titan and Leviathan are aggressive, so it makes sense they are bosses. Shiva is obviously not going to be a bossfight but damn I was sad we didn't get some sort of trial in order to obtain her (this I feel like is something they can do as an update). Ifrit should totally be a reward for beating him in the main story. Just a non-canon summon you get for post game. Bahamut should be a hidden summon you have to fight in order for him to come and fight with you (again, could be added via update if they are adamant on making these summons more involved in the story, according to what Tabata said in the ATR).
As a bonus Knights of the Round should totally be one too post game. Potentially after you collect all 13 weapons, learn about the kings lore, and maybe do those optional post game dungeons in each area as well.

Idk would be cool to be able to summon those to help you out post game.

I hope feedback they are taking into account also involves easier methods to summon them as well. I only ever got Ramuh, save for Titan literally once. I never got the other 2. And I know that is by chance, but damn its annoying to not be able to summon them easily.

I'm really encouraged by the news that Tabata has allowed newcomers to develop parts of FFXV which likely allowed them to gain extremely powerful experiences and lessons. In many areas of media, the "cult of personality" effect always rears its ugly head. Video games are no different. Unless you're name is Druckmann, Kojima, Nomura, Bleszinski, Miyamoto, Spector, etc. you cannot make a good game according to conventional wisdom. This in turn affects the amount of risk game publishers are willing to take on. Meaning that only proven developers are given a chance. Yet most of today's developers are who they are today because a chance was taken on them. Let's not forget that Nomura was originally just an artist before becoming a full-fledged game developer at Square-Enix. Iwata was a mere programmer before coming CEO of Nintendo at the tail end of his life. The new structure at BD2 which Tabata has created sounds like it will pay off in dividends in the long run. At least, I hope it will. Creativity can only survive with more constructive participation in my humble opinion.

i think having ifrit would be lore-breaking, since astrals aren't beings tied to your will, they just help because they're willing to, not because you command them; now bahamut should totally be included, i don't know if the new cutscenes will show him but if they do it would be a nice opportunity (i mean he's animations are already done, no excuse).

and yeah, the 13 kings felt unimportant during the game, they should totally do something related to them.

edit:

just for fun, rock formations are located in the arches national park, don't know location of the road (which is almost exactly like Leide). A fantasy based on reality indeed.
