I think it's okay that Somnus is a dick, they really don't need to redeem him imo. In the same way that they don't need to redeem Ardyn, just show us why he feels the way he does. We know Somnus was jealous, they can leave it at that. He says the things he does in chapter 14 simply because he's existed for a long time and has had plenty of time to come to terms with what happened between him and his brother. I don't even really think it's him feeling bad or trying to make amends, I think he's just telling Noctis to finish the job lol
Im really glad they dont seem to be turning Ardyn into a morally grey person and that Somnus looks like a dickish king.

Ardyn suffering injustice is what makes his revenge relatable.

So I rewatched the trailer and when Ardyn is walking towards the crystal he has the Oracle in his arms but it's a bit difficult to see since she's on his right side while his left side is facing the camera. So I guess the theory about him asking it to heal her might be the case after all. That Crystal really screwed him over, huh? Though honestly I kinda wonder why he was so bitter towards Luna when he killed her. I get why hates the line of Lucis but what did poor Luna do to deserve a bitch slap for trying to heal him? Unless maybe Ardyn's mind is so twisted that he thinks his Oracle was foolish for doing what she did and holds a grudge against her too for "abandoning" him. Would like some insight on that if they can provide it. Maybe they'll cover stuff like that in the credits for his episode like how the bros each got special credit montages and special after credit scenes that took place in little gaps within the story.

Well, this Twitter user made a theory of sorts as to why Ardyn slapped Lunafreya.:

And another Twitter user said a similar thing.:

Enh, that's not a solid enough reasoning imo, I think I like my version better. With Ardyn's twisted state of mind I still think he probably views the Oracle's sacrifice as abandonment which would fit well with the overall themes of his character. He was abandoned by everyone and cast into the shadows to be forgotten. Whether they actually did so intentionally or not doesn't matter, in his mind everyone left him which is a stark contrast to Noct who has friends and family in both life and death. Yeah he's too far gone but to truly justify it I think the reasoning needs to be more concrete to justify slapping and then stabbing a defenseless and dying girl with such ruthlessness and bitterness.

Yeah, I don't think the theory those Twitter posts were going for were the case, I feel like he's like he's too far gone and to spite Noctis.

I agree with you, I think that ya'll are making too much out of it. He killed her to spite Noctis for sure, only reason he slapped her though was because she was spouting the same bullshit as the crystal and the gods when they got him into this whole mess before abandoning him. Hearing that he'll be saved in the end must definitely feel a little condescending coming from the Oracle.

Yeah, he definitely did it to get to Noct above all else. It'll be interesting though if we can get a glimpse of Ardyn's internal thought process over the course of FFXV which is why I'm kinda hoping that the credits for his Episode are a sort of summary for the main game's story but through Ardyn's perspective. Like maybe we see key moments through his eyes or something.

That's actually a really good idea, similar to what they did with Episode Ignis's credits.

One point that Twitter theory is missing is that Ardyn's story is now being fleshed out. I don't think the story team developed anything past he was brothers with the first king, he absorbed the starscourge and imprisoned/ exiled when FFXV was first launched. To try to speculate "oh this ___ scene totally hints at this ___ moment the whole time." is pointless. Anything that is integrated now like if he backed handed Luna because of memory is a retconn.

Edit: This is similar to what happened with the first king's name or Ifrit's story. It wasn't until a year later when we found out that his name was Somnus so it had a connection to the song that has been there since Versus and Ifrit was given the title of betrayer because he attacked humans. This story is a giant Frankenstein monster.

Yeah, like I said earlier, I doubt the Twitter theory is even the case at all, I always had the impression that Ardyn did it to spite Noctis. One thing that get's my curiosity is this image from the trailer, which looks a lot like an interpretation of Ifrit.:

I think it's just supposed to be Ardyn as a daemon. More symbolic than anything, since we know he doesn't actually sprout horns.

Speaking of daemon Ardyn I'm curious what his tech bar abilities will be for his episode. It would be pretty cool if we saw some more demonic abilities from him like transformations and morphing to some degree. It would be like playing an evil version of Vincent minus the guns.

Also Ardyn seems to be able to fire off his dark Firaga/Thundaga tornado spell without any grenades in the trailer. I really hope that's something that carries over to the base game if it is indeed a grenade-less magic system. Maybe make the unlockable item or items for Episode Ardyn equipable elemental spell techniques that take up a weapon slot but don't need to be re-crafted. Instead you just go to an elemental deposit and fill up then you're good to go until you use up that element again. Would be a good way to make magic more varied too, thunder could be a straight forward stream that hurts enemies directly in front of you, blizzard could be a trapping spell, and fire could be an aoe type of attack. Probably too much to ask for but it would be cool if Ardyn's unlockable stuff is something substantial and game changing since it's the last piece of FFXV content being made.

no probs I already did this for Sylva because I help him with things sometimes

Top one is

Ayla/Ara/Eila Mils/Mills Fleuret, the first generation of Oracle chosen to bridge the Gods and mankind.
Ardyn's fiancée,

Bottom is

Ayla/Ara/Eila Mils/Mills Fleuret

The first generation Oracle, and Ardyn's lover.
Approximately 2000 years ago, she was selected and endowed with both the power of the Star, and Trident by Bahamut.
She generously healed and imparted wisdom to people. She was eventually called the "Oracle" who connects God and mankind.
She is an ancestor to the Fleuret family who govern Tenebrae, thus there is a connection to Lunafreya and Ravus.

I used ayla because I agree with the reddit mod, they already had a character in dragon quest with the same first name and they called her ayla. IDK about the middle name, I think Bazztek is probably right. I spoke with the reddit mod earlier about the name, they haven't seen any photos from the event showing her name written down so nobody knows what it is exactly.

Sylva's said it's not written in other languages yet.
That's awesome, I was wondering if that Oracle was in love with Ardyn or not.. And it seems there's something for sure.
In that case, Episode Luna (rip) probably had some plot twist between her and Ardyn (not love content between them, of course) but something like "your face remember me my dear fiancé, the one who choosed to stay with my dear brother" lol

Anyway that anime prologue shows also the lifestyle of the citizens, nothing about magitek technology but something more like an ancient style, (probably the people of Eos has banned the machines from their lifes after the war of the astrals...? Something like Yevon in FFX)

Ps. All that stuff about the first oracle comes from dataminig or from another source?

If I'm not mistaken Magitek and all that jazz was long before the age of Ardyn and Somnus. They're living in a post Astral War/Solheim era hence why we don't see the futuristic stuff that came about with Ifrit's help.
