Should I play XII now or wait for a HD remaster?

I'm trying to decide if I should play Final Fantasy XII now on PlayStation 2 or wait for a HD remaster on PlayStation 4. I own the game on PS2 and I watched a playthrough on YouTube nearly two years ago but I've never actually played that much of the game myself. I finished X & X-2 on PS2 years ago and just finished Dirge of Cerberus the other day so XII is the only single-player FF on PS2 I've let to properly play. On the other hand I still have to finish The Boring Years (I'm on the finale tale and just landed on the moon for the first time) and I've also got a few other FF games to play on my tablet. So should I play XII now or wait for a HD remaster?

Well, since a HD remaster doesn't even exist yet - if you have the itch, it's best to scratch it using the Ps2 version. You can get a little fanciful if you wish and play it on PCSX2 on your PC, my understanding is there are some enhancements that make the game look nicer on your PC. Plus you can patch in the IZJS content if you can find and follow the instructions for it.

I have a save on an emulator, I have the game and a working PS2, but the upscaled graphics look nicer on PC even if I get some frame drops here and there.

What's the point? Well... if an HD remaster is coming down the line, you don't want to spend time on the PS2 version when you could just wait for the HD version.

I'd wait. The remaster is bound to be the International version of XII which is the superior version IMO.

If you can run the game with PCSX2 on high settings then don't hesitate and go for it. But if you don't want to deal with all the installing and configurations I'd recommend you to wait a little longer to get the best experience. XII HD will happen sooner or later.

HD Remaster will likely include the Zodiac Job System, so playing the original now would make you realise better the differences when HD releases.

Go for it and play it now if you have the opportunity to.

Inevitable or not, Sora96, you already missed the buzz when the game was first released. And that was 2006.

Play it now. And if you want, we can answer if you have concerns about the in-game. And also to note, don't read walkthroughs and secrets. Back in the day, I didn't rely on where to go. What's the point of finishing the game if you didn't discover the things yourself and just relied on someone's notes? Just my thoughts, dude.
