Thinking about all the quirky stuff in the game being remade gets me so much more excited. Really cannot wait for the Honeybee Inn and dating quests. Multiple files to go on a date with all four options, here I come again! Man, I wonder if they'll add more date options this time?

Why? I keep asking why, but no one gives a solid reason. Why couldn't Cloud ride on a dolphin? What is stopping Cloud from riding on a dolphin? Graphics too strong for dolphins these days? What's the reason?
Because... Dolphin talk in illegal. And riding a Dolphin well get you sentence to death.

So many things have changed since 1997, we are living in 2015 now. The Gold Saucer most likely won't have that random wrestling game as wrestling has been banned. Those soccer moms, they got what they wanted in the end... :^)

Why...? What do you mean some things "don't really work"?

Why would they change anything like this to begin with?
I'm not talking about me, because it'd totally work for me (IX is my favourite game ever, and that one was full of comedy).

But I can see some people (the developers included) thinking that stuff like that, the slap minigame, the Honey Bee Inn... would look awkard with the realistic style they're supposedly pursuing. I was also talking about certain gameplay mechanics that would need a complete overhaul or some modification (don't ask specifics, it's been about 4 years since I last played VII, sorry xD). But some frustrating elements (like minigames) could totally be removed or changed (for the better, hopefully), since this is a game from 1997 that let's say... didn't have the best 3D mechanics (understandable).

Again, that's not my thinking, but I could see that happening with certain things (especially since this is a reimagination and not a word-by-word remake). More realism means that certain cartoony/animey elements would look weird for some people, while they didn't stand out with VII's fixed cameras and already weird models. However, I don't think they'll break the great comedy/tragedy balance the original had after reading Nomura's comments. I hated AC (I think I've said this about 100 times by now lol), but that was (if we trust his words and notice his other work and this trailer) something different, deliberately created that way, to contrast VII's ending. So I think they'll keep the essence and most elements will remain.

And this is (somewhat) unrelated, but man, I loved if they followed a slighty cartoony style to match this:

Maybe because I've always disliked their CG models, too doll-like for me. But again, XV looks great in that regard and, even if using different engines, the artstyle is probably going to be similar. And if there's something we can get out of the teaser, is the AMAZING atmosphere it has. And Cloud, even if we only see his back, has his classic design (pre-Compilation Buster Sword included!). So the art department is the last thing I'd have to worry about.

BTW, I know I'm complaining a lot without even seeing a single screenshot lol. But I love debating about this stuff and whatever comes, I'll be excited to see it unfold. I'm also slowly warming up to a completely different battle system, even if I still prefer they did a big change/improvemente to the original ATB. So long as they let us control the whole party (which I don't see why it wouldn't happen).

This whole thread was TL;DR. The debate of whether this should be a remake has been going on for years, quite sure I've read everything possible for this. I was (and still am) one of those who wasn't sure about remaking this. Never felt that it was that necessary. But seeing the trailer still got my heart beating and will welcome it with open arms, with a bit of reserve of course.

The Honeybee Inn, the dolphin riding, etc is going to be interesting for sure. I also am quite sure they won't bring everything in the original over. They have a chance to reinterpret this game in HD format, I'm sure they'll add and subtract many things to make it fit. Hopefully the choices they make will please the fans as well as enhance the game in the right direction!

Mr. Dolphin!

That's the playground girl's shirt, just saw it on 4chan.

It's most likely just an easter egg, though, like the Aya one or the buster swords the kids were playing with (unless the emphasize Cloud as a famous mercenary or something). But again, this is a cutscene that serves as a teaser and I doubt it's going to be part of the story, so they don't actually need plot coherence there).

It seems I'm in a minority here, but I don't really care about all the silly stuff. It's not what was important in FF7 to me and I wouldn't really mind most of it gone (except cross-dressing, of course). I trust Nomura's judgement on what works with realistic art style and what doesn't, and maybe replace some stuff with new funny moments that would fit in better. I feel the same about minigames, some of which need a major overhaul (the girl would die from a CPR like that, lol) and some others could be gone or replaced with something new.

With this remake I'm most excited for what they do with characterisation. In the original FF7 characters had like three animations and sometimes awkward dialogue due to not very good translation. Now with realistic models, detailed animations, better script and (hopefully good) voice acting I'm expecting something amazing.

I will say, I hope Vincent and Yuffie are permanent in the remakes. I would like them to be able to have a bigger role. It's unfortunate they did not even appear in any CG scenes due to them being optional.

Also in the Tales series, the game Phantasia. A character Suzu Fujibayashi was an NPC in the original. In the remake(s) is recruitable through sidequests.

Actually, NPCs becoming playable. Do any characters fit this in FFVII? Perhaps Reeve replacing Cait Sith if the player due so in sidequests.

I don't think we'll be seeing Reeve become playable, or anyone else. After all, the game is probably being written in order to also fit in with the Compilation and thus is probably only going to write in stuff from those games in order to tie the whole thing in better with itself.

More than likely, Vincent and Yuffie will be made permanent party members and they will have a much bigger role in the story than they did. At the very least, I can assume that they'll at least meet the characters in slightly different ways to avoid the need to do certain things to gain control of them. But then again, that's a big if. They might just have new CGI cutscenes that will feature them if you do have them and if you don't have them, there will be scenes that will reflect that.

@BladeRunner Would you like to have the Advent Children VA for all the characters in the remake ?
Dilly Dally Shilly Shally

To be honest, I was rather disappointed with english dub in Advent Children. I'm mostly okay with the cast, but I'd definitely replace some of them, particularly Aerith (preferably with her KH1 VA). The voices fit most characters well enough, but it's the acting part that often felt subpar. And I believe that most VAs were capable of delivering better performence, but it all comes down to bad voice directing. This is the biggest issue with not only AC but most voiced FFs that Square needs to deal with to have good english dub. The second issue is script and translation. Some corny lines just can't be delivered well no matter what.

So yeah, I would accept the AC cast with better directing. But I also wouldn't miss them if SE decided to hire some new talented VAs.

Can't wait for FFVII/R DLC that lets me play as Sephiroth and dress Cloud up in Lightning's outfit.

Also, I don't know if it's just me, and it's mostly just baseless assumption, but FFVII/R doesn't seem like an ambitious enough project (other than the fact that it's a remake) that they'd stray far from things that don't already work.
Regarding battle system, I'd want ATB (though I don't mind ARPG style). For a game that was so focused on the party as a whole, rather than just one character, I'm not sure how putting FFVII into the isolated style of an ARPG would work.

I'd love to see FFVII from a perspective like FFXV's with more panache; however, just not sure how they'd go about that without flooding the game with QTE's. (If it's CC2 producing, they're notorious for this.)

I´ve seen many bringing this up, source please. As far as i know CC2 is not involve in this project.
It's actually mostly just hearsay stemming from the fact that Nomura has always said he'd like to outsource from CC2, and I need to clarify that in my post.

But if CC2 does have any hand in this game's production, I'm not sure I'd like that too much.

I seriously can't find any reason why CC2 would be developing the VII remake. Sounds random to me.
It seems weird at first, but if you think about it, it isn't so much: they have (according to them a year ago) a big worlwide (in appeal) game in the making, are hiring a lot of people and are using UE4 (which I'd bet is the engine used for the remake).

They also made the G Bike thing and they talked about how much they'd like to make a remake. And they have experience making JRPGs (before Asura's Wrath and the Naruto series). Also, that Destructoid rumour, I guess.

I don't know if I'd like it or if it's actually true, but I can totally see it. Especially since they presumably wouldn't have much of a creative input, rather than "just" develop the game.

I'm curious as to why you don't think the FFVII remake won't be made via the Luminous Engine. It only seems natural they would their own made assets to build such an important game
Because of the same reasons KH ditched it: it isn't ready, it's a new engine hard to work with (always in comparison with UE4, that's according to what I've read) and because, according to what they said, most (if not all) Luminous devs are working on XV to agilize the process and be sure it uses the engine the right way. So there wouldn't be support from them unless they sent those people to work on VII (which of course, could happen if the game launches soon and everything goes smoth).

Also, Osaka Team seemed to have problems regarding Luminous when it came to the shader the wanted to implement. That means nothing, of course, more than the fact that the engine is still early and needs full implementation by its developers.

Bear in mind that Luminous should be ready when the final build of XV is done. So in a year or so if we're optimistic. At the same time, UE4 is a very powerful engine, very supportive of developers licensing it (they sent people from Epic to S-E to help with KH3 iirc).

I mean, I hope that, whenever XV launches, Luminous is fully used for future games (XVI, for example), because it looks really good. But for now, it's best to use something that will make the work faster and maybe even better, like UE4 (S-E didn't license that for nothing, after all).

They should want to release this game as soon as possible without compromising its quality, like with KH3. It's the right step imho, as much as I wanted Luminous to be their Japanese AAA engine, like Frostbite with EA. Although I guess they still can make it their flaship engine in the future, but not right now.
