HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT.

As follows:

Final Fantasy XV Director, Hajime Tabata, has confirmed to GameSpot that fans can expect to play the game before 2017, indicating the game will be released in 2016.

Asked about when Square Enix release plans top reveal the release date, Tabata replied: "At the very least, I can tell you that it isn't going to be released this year. I think we'll be able to tell you when we're making the announcement around PAX Prime, at the end of this month."

Pressed on how Tabata and his team plan to reassure fans struggling to remain excited after such a long development process, especially given the lackluster announcements coming from Gamescom, Tabata admitted the showing may have left fans wanting, and offered his sympathy.

"I understand why people are feeling that way after coming to Cologne and speaking to a lot of the media," he said. "We really do get the feeling that people are a bit worried. Certainly, one thing I would like to say to them to reassure them, is that we've set down the release date, we know when it is, and we've got a complete road map lined up, right up to launch, and we're proceeding along that as planned."

Then, Tabata dropped the best indication of the Final Fantasy XV release date yet: "We can certainly say to people: it's not going to be 2017. It's going to be before that."

This is so odd. Why did they refuse to say the release date at the ATR, then? Does that mean they ceded to pressure?

inb4 the game gets inevitably delayed.

EDIT: Square won't confirm anything:

Earlier today, Gamespot reported that Tabata confirmed a 2016 release. When we checked in, Tabata said that Final Fantasy XV definitely will not be released this year. He would also be quite disappointed if it released as late as 2017.

A Square Enix representative told us that more specific release details will be coming soon, as we reported yesterday in the original story below. The company would not confirm that the game will be released in 2016 or, to directly address what Tabata said to Gamespot, that it won't slip to 2017.

2016 Release Confirmed
We really wanted to say something else, so we've got something we'd like to say - you won't be waiting until 2017. We want to get that across. We want to reassure people that we are going to get it out."/QUOTE]

Tabata told Eurogamer that a 2016 release date for Final Fantasy 15 is in line with initial plans made when Final Fantasy 15 took its change of direction.

Well, there it is. I guess they wanted to have a big "surprise" (after 9 or well, 2 years...) revealing the full release date (or at the very, very least a window) this TGS.

They probably soon realize what a shitshow they had this GC and threw as a bone (seriously, Tabata should drop the damn percentages info).

It's been a while that I've been thinking that this game releases during 2016's Fall (I know, a very safe bet, but oh well). Prior to that, I'd very (gladly) surprised. I see KH3 releasing early 2017 if everything goes very well; if not, that year anyway.

The percentages info is very common to be honest.

I guess, but what I mean is that this isn't something you can actually measure with precission, as games are constantly evolving regarding their development. Especially this one as already seen!

So, for all we know, the last... I don't know, 10% of the game could consist of bug fixing, polishing and all that, while the previous one (from 70 to 80) could be something much more substantial: it's kind of subjective, in a way, as the percetage fills itself the more objectives the team finish, objectives obviously decided by the developers themselves.

But I guess I'm also talking from from a fan point of view: this game is always mocked for obvious reasons (myself included, true), and, certainly, saying that the game is only 65% can fuel those jokes (especially as Tabata said in February that the game was 60% completed).

The last 20% is typically debugging and optimizing, so development is at a good point!

Oh yeah, I don't dispute that! Especially if they intend to release it next year. It's just that, imagine they didn't say anything regarding the release year outside of the usual ("please, be excited and look forward to it" and all that), people would be mocking it as well as worried about so little progress made, outside of the actual development made on the game.

It was just me being nitpicky, I guess lol.

Tabata:
"To give you a bit of background, when I took on responsibility for 15, what we wanted to achieve with Versus 13 wasn't coming together so we had to change it. I was given a mission by the management, with what I had to achieve with this game. They said, 'you've got this much budget, you have to have it out at this date,' and that made us think how to make the best game we can with that. They won't let me go over that!

All the people on sites posting the release date news are still salty. Still claiming he is lying. Still being little bitter kids. I've waited 9 years for this game. It was my choice just as much as it was everyone else's. Being bitter and lashing out at the creators and everyone else because we had to wait based on our own choice is well, sighhhh....

I mean sure we didn't get the release date at the beginning of Gamescom, but being mad still that we didn't when now we have it is just, really?

No wonder Square doesn't know what to do with PR they are dealing with a bunch of loud kids who drown out the important fans.
I would be freaking confused for what's important and who wants what too...
After all they are a business and so they work like a buesiness they don't think like consumers. It's hard to know what Final Fantasy fans are thinking in the first place.

Tabata:

This explains.
The next fragment:
"I said to the management, that can compete in terms with the triple-A titles - they're the parameters that I have," Tabata pointed out. "It might be easy to misunderstand, and that I have limited conditions - it's not like that at all. I made sure we had enough time, money and people to make it the kind of experience I want it to be. I've got everything I need to do the job."
I know it's mostly PR fluff but at least let's not misrepresent what he said by quoting out of context.
