I enjoyed the first part of that trailer but man... the second and third part did not look good. At all.

Glad I'm not the only one unimpressed by what's shown so far.

Yes, it's very early days, in a game that's likely gonna be a good few years away yet, but it looked very bland and same old, same old.

I've generally found combat in KH to be repetitive anyway, but this does nothing to show much in the way of anything interesting.

Have to wonder what the point of showing something this plain so early on was. To assure people it's actually happening, I guess? Maybe.

I must say I really LOVED it. Of course we were all expecting to see other kind of stuff, but I guess they just wanted to show in-game footage so we can take a look at the battle system and its new additions. It does look a little too KHII, tho...

I do not like the on-rails part. The true combat bit seemed good at the very least. Still, I'm not going to get worried about a game that has at the very least 4 years until release. I know, from experience. Versus XIII kind of experience.

I do have to say that personally, I was iffy with the new trailer. I mean, it looks pretty and all that, but I don't get the whole "pirate ship and choo-choo train" thing. Like are they summons? Spells? Something totally new? Who the hell knows?
SE announced this game far too early. Because lets face it, probably all of the stuff we've seen up to date, is not going to make it to the final product. All this is doing is hyping up the fanboys and fangirls for something they are't going to get for years. Let's all remember that btw, this game isn't coming out for YEEEEARS.

As for what I want to see in the game? Well, new world of course. But by that I mean like ALL new worlds. Don't get me wrong, going back to Halloweentown and play with Jack Skellington makes me a happy duck, hasn't it been in practically every game? (I haven't played DDD or Coded so I wouldn't know what's in those games) I think change is a wonderful thing, so visiting places we haven't been before would be great.
I'm pretty positive by the time this game came out, Noctis and Lightning would be in it. It also depends on what other companies Disney sequesters closer to the time this game actually comes out. It's just kinda too early to judge for things you know?
All in all, while I am super stoked for this game, I'm cautious for right now since it's so early.

@Nikki-Cola: Yeah, it's pretty much (playable) concept at this point, but at the same time, I don't think the situation is as bleak as most people make it out to be. 2015 is likely if Square Enix wants to act cute and release the third entry 10 years after the 2nd.

I agree, but I don't understand why on earth it's been announced so early. Has SE learned nothing? I don't see the benefit in announcing a game that's 3 or 4 years, at least, away. I can only assume that they needed to announce something to tie in with the release of next gen to assure people they have things coming for it. I'd have settled for simply knowing FF15 is coming for it and them keeping KH3 under wraps until about 2 years before release.

So as already said, even though the trailer is pretty bland and unimpressive, it's not really a reason to worry. It just makes the waiting even more of a problem for some people, knowing that it's a long way off. Hope they really add some unique gameplay elements, though, because more hack 'n slash isn't very tempting.

2015 is probably when Versus is going to be released, so I wouldn't count it as a likely year.

Please allow me to clarify. "If" Square Enix wants to act cute (and release the third entry 10 years after the 2nd), then 2015 is likely.

I understand that Nomura is the director for both KHIII and XV. However, has the release of a Final Fantasy ever affected KH's launch date?

Correct. "If". And they, as of now, wouldn't do that. In regards to the second question, well, Nomura hasn't been the director of any FF until now, so the two projects released in the same year is not happening. Right now, they only released the trailers probably to say 'Hey, we will make the game', not necessarily to say they are developing it extensively right now.

Honestly, they should have learned from Versus XIII/XV. Announcing a game that you have practically nothing for is stupid. Especially when a majority of people are working on XV. I just don't like when a company, or rather anyone, creates false hope and promises. I would have rather they not announce it yet and take the time to really think of new ideas for the game/series then be even more amped when they announced it and had something to back it up.
Yeah no, I'm not expecting this game until 2017. Maybe eve later, who knows? It gives me time to see if I really want a PS4 anyway, lol.

It's very possible that Sony had some sort of influence here. Back in E3 2006, FFXIII and FFvsXIII were shown to help promote the PS3. It was about getting people excited for the product. Showing off well known popular IP's that people love and want to see is a great way of doing that.

When you think about what E313 was about for Sony, it was all about promoting the PS4. So showing of a Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts title is a great way to get people excited and interested in the PS4.

I think a similar situation happened with FFX too when it was announced for PSVita.

Or...

Square Enix just wanted to temporarily shut people up. A no show would just make them look bad so they didn't have much of a choice.

Cheer up people, let's see some more optimism that this is seemingly a thing now and that we're likely to get a steady trickle of updates as the years go by!
  • Yes, Nomura is directing, but he's sharing those duties with Tai Yasue. This is a relationship that has already worked successfully in the past and I bet Yasue-san has quite a bit of autonomy to get things done.
  • This is being made by the Osaka team, not the KHI/II/Versus team that has seemingly fallen into a black hole of next-gen complexity.
  • The Osaka team, as far as Googling can tell me, started working on KH series approximately 2005 and has been pretty much doing only the KH series since then. There is no rust on this team in any way.
  • Between 2005 and 2012, a span of 8 years, this team fully produced and released: re:Chain of Memories, Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance - as well as the HD remake project Kingdom Hearts I.5. They don't deserve our pessimism - this group has done a fantastic job during SE's lowest era.
  • With I.5 and the now-announced II.5, they have quite a few assets that have gotten dusted off and touched up to look a lot better in a modern console - including characters, outfits, worlds, everything. There's quite a bit they will be able to re-use for KHIII as opposed to starting from scratch. That's not to say they are going to half-ass this game, as BbS and DDD have shown us what Osaka team is capable of.
2015 doesn't seem unreasonable at all, right?

I'll just laugh if this is another Versus XIII. Let's hope Square Enix change their current model, because they said they would and they've done nothing. Would you believe in 2006 that Versus would be released in 2015?

We'll see how things go. I don't work for Square Enix, I don't have a crystal ball, and SE affairs aren't my sole preoccupation, so I'll not worry and just let the Osaka team do its thing.

Though, if anyone does happen to have a crystal ball or time machine, I'd love to get in touch with you.

The only real thing I need to make sense of is the announcement trailer. Was that just to show that the game will happen and completely non-canon, or is it canon? If it's canon, they better be prepared to explain how the heck Master Keeper got there. I'm betting on non-canon though.
