We are uncertain of this.

My post above explains why.

There has been no dialogue, or text or any nature, thaf specifically state what you’re saying.

Ardyn’s episode alone will yield the answer at this point.

Jerk characters in FFXV exist so I wouldn’t rule it out entirely.

It’s not uncommon for family members to betray one another to get their hands on the Crown.

The argument thus far is focal attention on an alternative ending or material, at all, is entirely unnecessary.

The best way to put it into perspective is with this simple question:

Would you rather alternative focused DLC?

Or DLC that adds in Cartanica, Tenebrae, expanded Altissia, more cutscenes, greatly improved chapters 1-14, more Regis, Cor, and other characters as part of the main story, etc. In other words, material that improves the core game by integrating it in that.

Take your pick.

You’d be daft to choose alternative over the second option if I’m to be openly honest.

Another point of contention is that, the original ending and its impact would be greatly diminished since people will be claiming “this happier ending is waaaay better. I hate how sad the original one is. This is canon now. Ugh the original ending sucked.”

I’ve seen a lot of people say this.

Square are making light of the theme of sacrifice and the greatness of the original ending by their own hand.

That is the true tragedy.
I would take the second option, although Episode: Aranea could give us some of Gralea, and perhaps some Tenebrae, although I already listed my main priorities I wanted filled/delved into, at this point, I'm willing to look past Cartanica if Ardyn and Aranea's Episodes have great or decent stories, and as for Altissia, I don't see a need to see more of it, but that's just me.

The reason I listed Altissia is because I can’t help but feel that we were meant to see a lot more of it, but didn’t, due to space and time constraints.

Open up the map at Altissia and you’ll see that we explore only around 5-10% of what we see.

I’m guessing here, but I estimate that we were supposed to explore the outskirts of the map, where you can see small town locations and even some possible dungeons.

My problem with expanding Altissia is "what more meter square can it offer at that point in the game and story beyond extra padding?" We have enough sightseeing turism and other little distractions (hunt, fishing & colisseum) as it is in Altissia.

The question isn't whether jerk characters exist in FFXV. The question is whether it makes sense for The Mystic to be one of them when he spends one of his five spoken lines asking Noct to "Restore the Light... and free my brother from his curse."

It depends on the writers ability to make more areas of the map closely tied to the main story.

I’m sure there are ways to get it done. It is possible.

It only becomes sight seeing if the writers make it so. In turn, they can make the expanded areas significant to the main story if they want it to as well.

That’s the question on everyone’s minds at the moment.

I like the think the relationship between Ardyn and his brother is more complex. So there’s jealousy, anger, intent to hurt, and regret over it later one.

It’s possible earlier on Somnus wanted his brother to be cursed because he was jealous and wanted the glory of the crown for himself, so he fed Ardyn false information or something related to absorbing the Starscourge and it’s consequences, only to later on feel regret over his deception.

Yes, If the writers want they can make a beliveable scenario to fit but, that was not what I meant (and looking back I failed to make clear), I will reword my complain and problem with the idea of expanding Altissia.

My issue is that the demand for more Altissia has less to do with the plot and game intrinsically needing more meter square of Altissia to fulfill its goal and be functional (a short stop before finally meeting Luna, Noctis forging a covenant with Leviathan and other plot stuff happening) and more with "hey, there are some unused mass there, I need that unused mass because...reasons." and "This town needs more content for...arbitrally defined checklist of what X game needs"

Honestly it could be guilt talking. If the Mystic was indeed a massive jerk maybe it's finally hitting him that "shit, I treated my brother wrongly and maybe if I had treated him better all of this destruction could have been avoided." Until we see the canon version of events we really can't trust either one of the brothers since Ardyn could be giving us his hate warped perspective of Somnus or Somnus is only showing us a more sympathetic side due to his own realization of his errors. Guilt does change people.

Story aside what do you guys think they'll do for the gameplay of each episode? Will Ardyn have his own unique style of gameplay or do you think he'll play like Noctis? I'm think Aranea will definitely be focused on lots of leaping and dodging to set up critical strikes, as for Luna maybe she'll be more effect based? Using the proper effects on the proper enemy to ensure the most damage seems like a properly strategic combat system for an Oracle without making her a generic purely offense based character. As for Noctis I doubt his gameplay will change but if they do wanna make this the grand finale of the XV universe I wonder if they'll maybe introduce new elements into his gameplay. I'm also curious as to how these episodes will affect the base game in terms of unlockables, will it just be items or something more substantial?

i imagine ardyn carried a weapon to defend himself from daemons (maybe that badass scythe from ep ignis)

if the datamine is still anything to go by, Luna will have a variety of spells (like wind, healing...), and we know she can summon as well; i think she'll be a 100% mage character; since she "materialized" in the royal pack, i think that's how we'll control her, in her spirit form during specific segments of the game.

about unlockables you were supposed to get luna as a character in the royal pack, maybe that will be carried over for her dlc.

edit:

i really can't think how they'll spend 2-3 hours on just non-canon story segments, so here's hoping there will be 'real' stuff, would be cool to control Luna during the invasion of tenebrae, a ghost defending her home lol

about the battle she must face, i don't have idea what that could be.

Perhaps Lunafreya could fight Gentiana and Shiva at the end. As for the alternative segment, they might get unlocked by beating the canon routes of the Episodes, and that unlocks an 'Extra Verse' for them, and that's where you could get an alternate segment, similar to how Episode: Ignis did it, but we should wait for more information about it, and the devs also stated they want us to learn more about Ardyn in Episode: Ardyn in that same announcement at PAX East this year, so there's some hope.

This would be the more ideal scenario.

Yeah, I liked the way Episode: Ignis handled it's canon and alternate endings. And they want us to learn more about Ardyn in his Episode and see a side of him we didn't see in the game, this was said at PAX East when they announced his and the other three Episodes, so I think there is hope that this may be the case.

Ardyn's scythe does have wing patterns as well

i hope that will be his "engine blade"
I really like that scythe, here's hoping it get's used outside of Episode: Ignis, and used as one of Ardyn's weapons in his Episode, and give it to us in the main game after beating it as a '14th' Royal Arm, but that's asking a little too much.

I'm thinking we might get a new setting for Luna's DLC entirely much like how we were introduced to Gilgamesh's dungeon for Episode Gladio or how Prompto introduced us to the first Magitek facility. It would make sense that maybe we're given an afterlife setting or something else relating to the Oracle that we haven't seen before. Also honestly I can't see Luna fighitng Shiva, maybe one of the other 6 but Shiva seems to care genuinely about Luna to the point she even shed tears over her which is apparently a first for her or any of the Astrals when it comes to humans.

While I'm almost certain that's just a random energy construct like his energy sword in the main game's fight I'm hoping it's based off of an actual weapon he may have owned at one point. A scythe as a Royal arm would be pretty unique and badass.

I do wonder why all of the new DLCs will be released next year, though. Perhaps they want to develop and work on their settings and making them substantial, perhaps?

Probably to increase volume in content in order to crank the value up, plus less deadlines i believe.

I still dont get the timeline of Ep Ardyn, description mentions a clash with the astrals but they are supposed to be sleeping during his time... unless the dlc will cover multiple points of his life
