So 100% confirmation that it is original and has NOT been turned into a mainline FF game then.

Thank god...

Since doing the new AAA IP is what LumiPro was made for I'm guessing it's the same project Tabata started proper last year and that Terada and the rest at LumiPro are now managing after Tabata left. I remember Tabata suggested something like that would happen that interview from August 2018, though that was before we knew he was gonna leave SE, it was where Tabata said he set all the planning in the initial phase, the important groundwork specs and stuff which he says he designed himself for the new IP, and that he coordinated with the leads of other core parts of the dev team like the artists and other devs, and that after that he said it's gonna be up to them to make the actual game after a certain point

Hajime Tabata said:
"Development-wise, logistically speaking, I don't have any time to get my hands dirty. However, with the initial phase planning, all the important specifications that are going to be implemented into the game, I designed myself. I discuss all the other art and other development aspects at the core of the game with the lead artists and developers. After a certain point, it's going to be up to them to make the game. The same as before, basically, but even more so."

Yep. And that interview's even full of interesting little details. Here's a rundown.

*Basically Ardyn's disguise meant he wasn't recognised explicitly by Regis and co when he appeared in Kingsglaive. So they didn't break the lore excessively.
*The word "Adagium" was actually used during production to keep Ardyn's name a secret. They just decided to include it in the actual game world, and they've admitted its translation from Latin doesn't have any story relevance.
*Ardyn and Somnus's relationship is extremely complicated. There's feelings on both sides, which explains some of the odder interactions. There's also a question of Ardyn's sanity regarding these events.
*Voice recording for the whole XV was quite fun. Ardyn's actor didn't need much prompting due to the length of time he played the character, and Prompto's actor apparently inserted a lot of adlibs.
*Ifrit's fate in the DLC was decided upon as it was the only way the team could think of to make things work in the time limit.
*The name "Izunia" is basically passed off as "Ardyn's absorbed so many memories he can barely recognise his own existence by that point", to paraphrase.
*The "Submit to Fate" ending is confirmed as the DLC's canon ending leading into XV. The "Resist" ending would've led into the future DLC and will be the path taken by the novel.
*Bahamut's logic behind his choices for Ardyn and Noctis are more fully explained in the novel.
*The Dawn of the Future's original draft was written by Episode Ardyn scenario director Toru Osanai and given to Emi Nagashima to turn into a novel. The intention was always an alternate grand finale with the concept of "happy ending" at its heart. The whole scenario was planned out by March last year.
*Dawn of the Future will be the very last part of XV's narrative and development. They're moving on to other things at Luminous Productions.

This... honestly seems rather strange. Ardyn's last two lines either way are, "I will spread this scourge across the earth, lure out this 'King of Light,' and kill him. Then, the entire world of Eos will be drenched in the darkness of despair for time eternal." That doesn't sound like submission to his fate; it sounds like he's still fighting it, since he wants to kill Noct without the world being saved through Noct's sacrifice.

The "Reject your fate" ending has a few other connections with the universal credits scene, as well. One of the last things that "Aera" said was, "Man exists solely by the grace of the gods and cannot live without," which leads in neatly to Ardyn's question, "Am I alive?" Ardyn's reference to "the 'blessed' gods above nor the accursed kings below" is a direct reference to "Aera"'s declaration that "the gods who rule above and the men who reign below shall lend their strength to the King of Kings." And, of course, in the "Reject your fate" ending, Ardyn's insistence that he "[does] not intend to kneel before you now" leads in far more naturally to his decision to try to murder Noct before Noct ends the line of Lucis on the Astrals' terms.

I think the point of the "Submit" ending is that it literally does not matter how Ardyn feels about his fate. He's already too far gone to simply stand down and allow what was predicted to come to pass without trying to get his revenge on his own terms.

...with that said, Bahamut's actions -- both obvious and apparent, in the case of "Aera" -- are much more vicious in the "Reject your fate" ending, so it's probably better to leave that out of canon now that the Dawn of the Future storyline is no longer part of the game.

From the interview that SonOfEtro provided, I translated some of parts of the interview with Google Translate, so it might not be the best of translations.:

--- It is also interesting to explore using Shadow Move. I feel fresh before the collapse.

Terada Insomnia tells the history of "FFXV". I am in charge of the area around the capital city in the main part, and I have expanded the narrow compartment at first and then. It is big that there was "FFXV Royal Edition". The reason why I was able to build this scale and scale is that "FFXV" has been around for a long time.

Terada "FFXV" performs reading speed and memory management according to the moving speed of the player character. Arden's movement in the shadow move was too fast at first, causing a series of problems, but at programmers's efforts, high-speed movement was achieved by maintaining the reading specifications and adjusting the reading specifications. The main part of Noct's shift decided the points that can be moved, but with Shadow Move, being able to go anywhere was also a commitment, and it was also a great place.

Something else from that interview I forgot.

Apparently the reason Episode Ardyn's so heavy on lore/exposition/info dumps and so grim in tone was because it was always intended to set stuff up for the rest of the cancelled DLC. The planned Episode Aranea would've been much lighter in tone, while Episodes Luna and Noctis would've had a serious mood leading up to the alternate finale.

There is some tonal and thematic dissonance there, I agree. It's still great to watch either way. I'm very interested to see how they lead on from the "Reject your fate" ending in the Dawn of the Future novel.

I beat the DLC last night, started it at 7pm and put it down at 1:30am - what a journey it's been!

I'll try to be brief, but overall it's my second favorite DLC after EP Ignis. I think the lore and background we got in this were very crucial to the game's overall story, and I appreciate that now most major events from the game have an explanation! (thank you for Ifrit's full story, a proper world timeline, and an explanation of what the Gods wanted)

I have a few small complaints like them scrapping Somnus' commanding personality to be more soft, Verstael's choice of voice being a bit off, Regis supposedly not remembering Ardyn, and the rap OST playing non-stop rather than only during battles - but all those are small complaints that don't break the overall experience.

So I guess this is the end, huh? If we count Versus13 that was announced in mid 2006, then it's been almost 13 years. And if we only count from when it was re-branded as XV, which was mid 2013, then it's been almost 6 years. When the game was re-branded during E3 2013 I was barely a year into university, and now as of today I have completed university, a masters degree, and I'm just under a year into my professional job.

I've been with this project for a long time (since 2008/2009 I think), and despite the many disappointments due to questionable development decisions, I couldn't be happier to see it finally conclude. If anything, XV's legacy will be the long rocky journey that was its development time. I firmly believe it is one of the most interesting gaming's "behind the scenes" stories that this industry has to offer - and I am so happy and proud to have experienced it first hand!

Final notes:
I want to thank everyone here for sticking together until the end. We shared moments of excitement, moments of frustration, and despite our disagreements I feel we all ultimately wanted the same outcome; to witness this project realize it's full potential and ambitions. Thank you all, it has been a pleasure to read everyone's daily posts and speculations. I originally planned to leave after EP Ardyn, but I think I'll stick around for a bit longer until the novel is out and we're sure there isn't anything else.

Now I'll need to take a step back, breathe, and come to terms with the fact that it's over. I don't think I ever want to get invested in another project like this. And in the meantime, I remember promising to buy FFXV for a friend when the game would be complete... so I guess that time has come!

Me too... I mean, apart from Bahamut being unnecessarily cruel, I'm not sure how the "Reject your fate" ending can really change anything that happened in canon. I suppose the really evil way to connect the two would be to have Noct choose to reject his own fate within the Crystal and get strung up by Bahamut and stabbed by fake-Luna to test his resolve. The other, less direct way would be to seize on "Aera's" claims that "everything in this world is preordained" and that "man exists solely by the grace of the gods and cannot live without" to foreshadow Noct proving otherwise.

On a different note, I just noticed this from your earlier post:

*The name "Izunia" is basically passed off as "Ardyn's absorbed so many memories he can barely recognise his own existence by that point", to paraphrase.
I think this is the only possible explanation they could come up with that wouldn't contradict any of the uses the game made of that name. XD

EDIT: I just found this on a Reddit thread about the JP version of the last ATR, and:

Terada (Episode Ardyn and Episode Ignis director) contributed a lot of his own ideas for Ardyn, such as getting betrayed by the gods.

WHAT?!

That... makes a lot of sense in some ways, but is also really frustrating in other ways.

At least with Episode Ardyn on its lonesome, it's possible to interpret Bahamut as simply acting as a servant of a fate he doesn't see himself as able to change.

Beat the DLC on ps4 yesterday, diving back in with the PC version today. Gonna grab as many ansel shots as I can, will share the album here. If there's anything ya'll want me to snap a pic of let me know. I can get stuff in cutscenes as well thanks to an exploit. I'll also post my thoughts on the DLC when I'm done.

im also entering a phase of my life that leaves me with limited time but Im not planning to leave this place due to the quality of the discussions, especially compared to certain boards...

Regis not remembering Ardyn is due to the fact Ardyn was disguised as soldier Mars Sapientia; you may have seen Ardyn all the time in the dlc but for everyone else he just looked like a regular soldier.

I'm staying on this board, too, looking into general news threads of some games, and discussing things about it. I still have plenty of free time for stuff like this, but I also want to have a job someday, but I would still find ways to have my free time to play games and browse the internet.
