aaahh yeaah the good old Versus debates.

i think people look too much into details with lots of projection involved, theres not enough information about the failed project as well.

whatever it was going to be, and based on Nomura's past titles, the game would look cool and be a convoluted mess story-wise, that much is certain lol.

How Noctis acts and his personality is in XV is exactly how Nomura always described him to be in Versus/XV, the literal only difference is that in XV they recorded more dialogue for Noct in XV than in Versus so his Japanese VA Tatsuhisa Suzuki said Noct ended up more talkative than in Versus, simply because he recorded more dialogue, his actual personality of being someone who is actually a dork, someone who isn't actually cool despite his looks, someone who thinks himself just a normal person and is against the rigid rules of the royal familyetc, was kept and retained, even the side of Noct where he can get angry really quick and errupt was clearly shown in scenes like in Chapter 1 against the Niflheim troops or in Chapter 11 when he's swinging his sword at "Ardyn" in the train full of people.

Despite copying a cutscene animation almost 1:1 with Yozora from Noctis's 2011 trailer animation, that doesn't actually mean Yozora has the same personality as Noct did or was supposed to have, and he doesn't even actually seem to at all based on anything he's said and done in KH3 ReMind. It would be like saying Ardyn has the same personality as what Noctis because Ardyn in Episode Ardyn has the same car scene animation that Noctis had back in 2006 and also sits on the throne in the same way Noctis was sitting in the 2006 and 2011 Versus trailers. Hell even the Terra Wars event has Noct saying dialogue practically identical to things he said in the 2009 Versus trailer too.

Yozora may be based on the idea of Noctis but he isn't the "actual" Noctis that Nomura was planning, the Noct we got in XV is that based on literlaly everything Nomura ever said about him and his personality.

Shiori Kutsuna is her Kingsglaive Japanese VA, her Japanese VA in the game is Rina Kitagawa.

"The Noctis of FFXV and the Noctis of Versus XIII are different people."
"I read the Versus XIII script several times, it was difficult to make the transition."
"There was an unrealistic transcription of the psychology of the character in FFXV, I had to interrupt the recording for 1 hour and I went to see the staff."

Suzuki Tatsuhisa, mentioned during the release date live stream that he still has the Versus scripts at home that he read on his days off and he couldn’t figure out how to move from the Versus Noctis to XV Noctis and struggled to find the middle ground.

This was all said in the Japanese release date livestream, this article used to link directly to the livestream video on youtube but the video has been removed since then. The article also links to a reddit thread that was made around the same time that had translated some of what Suzuki said in the video. You can still find the livestream video somewhere iirc.

Then again he spoke in Famitsu https://78.media.tumblr.com/d6d8760...2696/tumblr_inline_oj4xxkCSWO1uc4lap_1280.jpg

"In the 7 year gap between Versus XIII and FFXV has there been a change in the character of Noctis?"
When i first started voicing the character, Noctis was far more introverted, speaking with a gruff manner and showing little sympathy for those beyond his immediate circle. When the change was made to Final Fantasy XV, Noctis became more outgoing and emotional. In order to respond to expectations, we discussed thoroughly with the development team and built up a new persona for the character.

And then there is Tabata himself admitting to changing the character and even describes the changes exactly like Suzuki did http://www.4gamer.net/games/075/G007535/20160324131/

4Gamer: With a glance you can tell he isn't a character with a lot of human faults is he.
Tabata: Yes. To tell the truth, because of that I didn't really like Noctis at first. This was something I didn't realize until later. I couldn't put my finger on it and he has a very symbolic impression. Nevertheless, he justly has an atmosphere about him that seems as if he could accomplish something right?.
4Gamer: Regardless of you became the director midway through, Noctis is the main character and you couldn't leave him as he was, could you.
Tabata: From there I thought about a lot of ways we could make Noctis likable. I was finally able to think of him as human when I imagined a multitude of Noctises' childhood memories. For example, the setting where Noctis is an adolescent and patiently waiting at the dinner table for his father Regis. After doing that I was naturally able to like Noctis.
4Gamer: To think that, “liking the main character,” is a part of development.
Tabata: As for make him more humanistic, debates continued within the team until just recently. We discussed to great extent, such as,“He needs to be more like this type of person, or it won't work.” Or, “If we can't get this vibe from Noctis, we can't justify his actions.” Of course, we dug deep into his personality and played around with his dialog.

Now please, don't try to move the goalposts about how these changes are for the better because this wasn't the original point plus it's subjective. I just find it funny how random xv fanboys try to defend the game with crap they pulled straight out their ass and others praise them and agree with them because both groups of people are too damn lazy to do any proper research.

Luna's voice actress in Japanese is Rina Kitagawa/Shiori Kutsuna. Risa Shimizu is the voice for ??? (aka nameless star) in KHIII.

Stella never had a confirmed voice actress cast. I can't find any sources on the subject whatever that aren't deeply suspicious or questionable.
Yeah that's the problem I encountered as well, nobody knows the name of the lady voicing Stella from the 2013 trailer.

This is false, he was never not allowed to talk about it and his comment in the Dissidia NT stream was him making a tongue in cheek joke because the Dissidia staff decided to put the Versus Noctis outfit in Dissidia, SE and various staff on XV team had discussed Versus multiple times both before and after XV released too, and even Episode Ardyn specifically is full of direct references to specific things from old Versus trailers, and that released after KH3 came out.
Joke or no joke, it was stated. And of course staff internally discussed Versus 13 and referenced it sometimes in the game, point is Nomura clearly was advised not to speak of Versus 13 publicly. And to this date he hasn't.

Shit like this is why people are so fucking annoyed by Versus/Nomura stans
And angry Tabata fanboys with their own shit spilling out of their mouth attacking anything Nomura does are the reason people hate XV even more. The game was flawed, but instead of accepting it's limited potential due to SE's poor management, they pretend that they have a perfect game and take the piss on anything Nomura related. It's really frustrating.

The last 3-years these XV-loyalists kept preaching how happy they were that XV killed all the ideas behind Versus, but now that some of those ideas are coming back in a completely different project, you go attack that new project as well? Seriously?

There are devs from FFXV who went on to work on KH3 after FFXV released, and many people from Versus stayed on XV til the final release. When Tabata said that the Type-0 team didn't want to merge with Nomura's team it wasn't because they didn't get along with the staff or anything, it was because Versus XIII had a bad reputation within the company already. Nomura's own comments regarding Tabata also state that he was a great addition to the team and that "his vitality and mentality are always very motivated and very high".
Any reasonable person working in corporate is professional, nobody goes around saying new staff members or additions are bad............... for whatever reason (be it due to SE's instructions, or your made up "internal bad reputation") the teams did not interact much during development of XV. Sure some staff were thrown around, sure some resources after one project got moved to the next, but Nomura was not overseeing XV in the main years after development re-started nor was he a consultant for Tabata providing advise. KH3 and XV were their own thing being developed independenly in two separate studios under different supervision, no major overlaps occurred.

When Tabata joined XV he did so as Co-director with Nomura, for whatever reason Nomura was taken off the game in December 2013, and we know now that FF7R actually started sometime around 2013 too, which would likely be the actual reason why he was taken off XV.
Yes and that is the point, we don't know how much they forced Nomura to go on FF7R or how big a paycheque they wrote him to entice him to leave XV. We're also not talking about Nomura and Tabata being on good terms. We are talking about how events happened and how XV fell under a different direction in it's prime dev years and turned out to be a different beast altogether.

How Noctis acts and his personality is in XV is exactly how Nomura always described him to be in Versus/XV
False. While of course the looks, background, and certain traits that were mentioned were kept - the overall character was heavily changed to fit the role of a protagonist for a mainline FF (while also catering to the Chinese laws of censorship and Tabata's changed narrative of the game). Even the early XV trailers show a different Noctis than his personality in the final game. The VA's comments do not talk about the volume of dialogue, he clearly states the core of the character has been altered to make him more open.

Nomura clearly stated in the ultimania that "VR may resemble an old game he worked on, but it's different." That's already known. But if his themes, conflicts and character plots from the Versus 13 concept are salvageable (again, because XV did not use most of them) - then why not use them, they belong to him. In terms of the car scene, Nomura directed it and they CG'd it, but the XV team did not use it, so Nomura decided to use it himself as that's a great scene. He didn't copy it, it's his, he just re-purposed it.

That info comes from the 30th Anniversary from Edge Magazine issue 314. Here's a scan from a part of it. Not exactly the same in phrasing as the bit you quoted, but in essentials...

Yeah I remember reading a transcript of this a few years back, he says the idea of merging the teams to start pushing the project into FFXV was not something his team wanted, it was in development hell for quite a few years and many working in the team didn't want to start working on a project like that. And it took some time to convince/get everyone on the same page to start moving this project in the new direction (to next gen). This is what happened, but there was never internal hate towards the project/teams/directors, just the idea of merging with another team to work on a project that has been stuck in dev hell was a little concerning to employees. Which is understandable.

Eh, a quick google search gives a lot of stories of "I heard" or "someone said" for both sides. There's also another known comment that the team was exhausted, understandably so if they kept being thrown on different projects to help out and then coming back to resume and then thrown on something new again. The development pauses resulted in fractured development, so it's reasonable to assume this style of development that SE created for that team was very much not ideal.

SE needed to let XV and KH3 be the focus for him, and delay FF7R a little until he got one of these bad boys done and over with, that way the FF7R trilogy could've been all on PS5 and would have put less pressure on everyone trying to push out part 1 right before the console generation ended (or just end up throwing it on PS4 too a few years after PS5 launches, a la MGS5)

the company itself admitted Versus having problems, which I think were due to being an ambitious project for that time (for SQ) .. when they began to actually remade it as XV, the shifting of generation made it possible to realize a lot of its gameplay aspirations... but so much time have passed by then that new projects were on the way, FFVIIR and they needed a director for it.

I think its just as simple as that, really.

Agreed.

Also remember that in late 2013, there was an executive turnover; the previous CEO resigned after a dismal FY. The new executive team then came and made some sweeping changes, like mandating FFXV be a complete experience as opposed to the proposed episodic format.

yeah, sounds reasonable.

they probably knew before-hand FFVIIR had to be episodic due to its massive content as well, and the idea of developing two AAA trilogies at the same time would be insanity.

I still don't think that Verum Rex will get a new game. It will end like Wii U. People who aren't exactly into square enix news will think that it's some kind of weird dlc for FF XV. like they thought that Wii u was some add on for Wii. I have some friends that played FF XV randomly and I can confirm that they would be super confused if they walked into the game store and saw some noctis look alike game.

Yozora looks different enough and Kingdom Hearts has enough of its own name-recognition that I think making a Kingdom Hearts 4 or Kingdom Hearts Verum Versus Rex could work. Just still needs to have Disney to avoid completely looking like a XV DLC. I think the more realistic setting could lend itself well to some of the newer Disney properties that people have been wanting in KH like Marvel and Star Wars.

for sunday gamers or people not really that interested in square games, noctis and yozora look same. And they're not helping it by putting same cutscenes from versus xiii to kh dlc (car scene). In my opinion it would be best if they could wait a few years and just make versus and call it a remake of xv or whatever...otherwise it would just look stupid xd i'm just not a big fan of kingdom hearts and also it's super unpopular in my country so i don't want mickey mouse or other disney stuff in my versus xd i just really liked the idea of darker ff and never got over what they did with it xp i still enjoyed ff xv very much but you know...
