Time for ATR Details!
So, the entire ATR can be seen here
Individual video links will be added when available.
First, I'm going to go over individual UI elements seen in the progress report clips.
Tabata confirmed that the control scheme did change from Duscae, you will start off with just the main face buttons and more buttons/abilities will become unlocked as you play.
シフトブレイク Warp-strike (lit. Shift-Break)
Guard
Assault
Jump
As I've mentioned previously,
and
are swapped in Japanese games from how other regions usually map their buttons, so you can imagine that Jump and Guard will be swapped for your version of the game if that helps you in any way.
Here we can see two buttons being shown towards the bottom of one of the battle clips shown.
仲間リンク Buddy Link
バトルメニュー Battle Menu
The Buddy Link system seems to be the one seen in these images (time to take up a fuck ton of room)
It's possible though that they aren't the same, the UI is different from these builds and so it's hard to tell which is which. I honestly don't even know which UI is the more recent one... but I'm fairly confident it's the one shown in this first section in the progress report, as the menu for the Buddy Link just looks to be slapped on.
As he's fighting the... giant deer? This comes up on screen briefly, keep in mind this is the demonstration for the enemy counter attacks where the enemies can counter your moves.
This is the
button and it reads スラッシュ Slash
Only moments after we see this just below the Warp-strike window
+
ファントムソード発動 Armiger (lit. Phantom Sword Invocation)
This seems to be the same like it was in Duscae having what is likely Phantom Sword being the same buttons.
A few clips later we see a... Chocobo kicking a magitek soldier in the dick.
It says HOLD
シフト Shoot
We can't see what weapon Noctis has here, but it might be he has a gun? All I know is, that Chocobo is a bad ass.
Next up we see an image of Noctis and a Garula about to attack him and this pops up
The circle swirls around and the
prompt is shown in the middle, milliseconds after we see the
button (captured here) overlay with this showing バリィ Parry.
Two things to notice here, the first being that Noctis has a shield out when he's doing this, the second is that the controls are NOT the same as the rest we've seen so far.
in this case is actually the Guard button and the Parry button which is also Assault (shown outside of this screenshot) is
.
This goes back to what I said in a previous post where holding down the Guard button and pressing Assault when you use
for Guard and
for Assault doesn't make for a comfortable control scheme. However, the UI here is very pretty and looks more up to date alongside the other features we've seen in this demonstration.
Could this be an example of the different game mode type? Is this just an earlier build before the button changes? Honestly, we don't have the answers to this, but it's very interesting to see that even in this example they aren't showing the
+
combination for Parry attacks, supporting my theory.
As for what happens in this screen shot? Well, he guards against the attack and does a Parry Chain as listed on the side and Prompto warps to him with this showing up underneath them.
バリィリンク:盾:プロンプト000(?) Parry Link : Shield : Prompto 000(?)
I'm not sure what the "000" thing is at the end, it could be zeroes, but it might be something else entirely, if you have any idea please let me know.
So this seems to be more co-op stuff akin to what we saw in Duscae but with more flare and with more features, seems like it should be pretty neat. Again, still not sure what the whole button situation is for this, but I guess it doesn't really matter.
A few final minor details from this section of the video. This can be seen at the very start cut off, I can only make out the tail end.
…ソード召喚 [...] Sword Summon
I believe that's a ム at the very start, so I believe this is actually saying ファントムソード召喚 Phantom Sword Summon. This is mapped to
though and not with
+
like with Armiger which also uses "Invoker" and not "Summon". However, you will notice that in the next post there is UI which has the
and
on opposite sides of the window panel, so perhaps that's all this is, and it's a rename of Armiger's ability? Seems a bit strange either way.
Finally, the image of a mini map with the terrain shown as well as the current time of day/sky color shown in the top right (cut off of course).
To be continued...!
