I see all TPS games as the same tbh but that's just me.

Ah yes, I've played Uncharted and Tomb Raider. Can't believe I forgot about those. Very linear and nothing out of the box but still great. I'm presuming Episode Prompto is the same.

I play games for the story, so even if the gameplay isn't groundbreaking, I'm alright with it so long as the story element keeps me hooked.

That's all I want for Episode Prompto really. Fill in plot holes and bring on the feels, and I'd be happy.

I also don't play a lot TPS because I don't really like them much (I just don't enjoy aiming in games, weird I know). But what even Uncharted and TR had above this is thad they actually had some level and encounter design. Here it's literally a corridor with same enemies everywhere.

the design of the area is flat i agree, just a few boxes and plain white walls, no destructible objects either; the graphics are good but it doesn't seem they put in a lot of effort on the level design.

the UI also doesn't help, cheap looking as fuck like in the main game.

I'm referring to seeing the entire level design in the whole game that wasn't shown in footages, never implied that what we've seen so far was flawless.

I just find comparing it to two full games that have actually released a bit hasty, regardless of first impression.

Okay, I get where you're coming from and I kinda agree. Of course I wasn't comparing the whole Episode, just the part we've seen. And the reason I compared them was because these games were brought up earlier by someone arguing that all TPS games are the same and the DLC looks also the same. The purpose of my post was to point out that there are some major reasons why what we've seen so far of the episode looks subpar to these games.

And while I do believe it's unfair to draw hasty conclusions about the Episode, I also don't think we should give Square the benefit of doubt and expect the rest of it to be much better. They've shown this part knowing that it'll be people's first impression. Why would they choose a segment that's not representative of the whole DLC and presents it in a bad light if they had something more in store? We already went through this with FFXV pre-release materials that were showing mostly the desert and grassy area, and many fans believed they were just showing early game areas in order not to spoil it, and that there must have been so much more in store. But there wasn't. And when the reality hit certain fans pretty much underwent a mental breakdown and still haven't recovered.

I know I went off on a tangent a bit but I just wanted to preemptively say that with Square we should only expect what we actually see.

What you're describing in the later is level design, YMMV on how good or not it is.
No offense, but now you're just being unnecessarily pedantic. Of course I didn't mean that it literally had no level design, it was just a sarcastic way of expressing that it's very bare bones and low effort.

To clarify, I said I see all TPS games as the same because I tend not to think too much in depth for the gameplay for these types of games.

They're pretty much shooting, jumping, climbing, puzzles and story intermission. Which is still a very enjoyable formula that doesn't get old for me.

As for how Episode Prompto compares to Tomb Raider and Uncharted, I'm going to have to play it and judge for myself afterwards.

With that said, it's a bit unreasonable to compare a short $5 DLC to other TPS full length games that have been in development for years.

I am in no way expecting Uncharted level stuff. I guess it's all about one's own expectations - as it always has been.

I just want a good story in the DLC that answers some plot hole questions. If the DLC does this, then that's all I need.

I enjoyed Episode Gladio. I'll enjoy Episode Prompto, and I'll enjoy Episode MvP of FFXV. Am I bias? Absolutely.
I think I'd prefer Prompto to Gladio. Gladio's just not my sort of character. If a sequel happens, they need to do some major work on him to not have him as a insensitive, stick-up-his-end whatsit. I was wanting him to be the party sacrifice by Tenebrae. He needs a good woman...to completely trounce him in combat and drag him on an adventure that opens his eyes to more than his role as King's Shield.

Also, MvP? What's that? Do you mean Episode Ignis, or the multiplayer?

They literally just showed the tutorial part of the DLC, what are you getting so worked up about?

I am referring to Episode Ignis yes ^_^. Gladio is fine as is to me. Yes, sometimes I wish he was a little bit more considerate, but he is the "tough love" type of Chocobro. I can deal with that.
