1. FFX – Yuna (summons all kinds of powerful Aeons, free meat shields too)

2. FFX – Tidus (Yuna and Tidus need to be together)

3. FFVII - Cloud

4. FFVII - Zack

5. FFVII - Aerith (Cloud, Zack and Aerith fighting together, a dream comes true)

6. FFX - Auron (he throws his bottle like a boss AKA Tornado overdrive)

7. FFIX – Vivi (burnnnnnn)

(+ XIII - Chocobo Chick in one of the characters hair because it’s cute and fluffy…)

FF12:Balthier; Interchangeable weaponry + Blank Slate + Snark + Accent
FF13:Hope; Powerful, all-around magic user + He grew a backbone near the end of 13
FF13:Fang; Heavy-hitter + Human shield + Debilitation + Snark + Accent
FF10:Rikku; Thief + Alchemist + Upbeat attitude
FF10:Auron; Piercing abilities + Awesome Limit-Breaks + Giant Sword!
FF8: Squall; Gunblade + No-nonsense attitude + Leather
FF1: Black Mage/Wizard; Powerful magic spells + My favorite out of the original six

If sequel/side/temporary characters were options I'd have:
FF10: Rikku
FF10-2: Paine
FF12: Balthier
FF12: Larsa
FF13: Hope
FF13: Fang
FF13-2: Noel

Also, since Summons are such a big part of the games I think we should choose seven Summons (one for each character).
FF8: Diablos-Hope; Demi weakens enemies, than Hope finishes them off with area affect spells.
FF8: Syren-Rikku; Pair the spares.
FF10:Bahamut-Fang; 10's Bahamut is so much better than 13's.
FF10:Ifrit-Squall or Noel; Physical fighter + magic user.
FF10:Shiva-Auron or Paine; Physical fighter + magic user.
FF12:Cuchülaïn-Black Wizard or Larsa; Curaja
FF13:Odin-Balthier; A leading man needs a steed.
