We both know that they didn’t have the time to work on that since they were so busy with the episodes, festivals, Comrades, etc.

The character switching option is a good step in the right direction.

The thing is, wasn’t character switching one of the things Versus people were demanding @llazy77 ?

They put that in and now it’s being ignored and deflected :/

It’s only the beginning now that they’re free from the character episodes. They’ve got free reign to choose what they more gonna work on now.

It’s important to keep in mind this is a start, and as a start, this is pretty good.

They may, or may not, do an Insomnia setup. I’d be quite happy if they did but we don’t know what’s going to happen yet.

So many people from Gamefaqs actually were presently surprised by the announcement too so its a great step in the right direction if those fools can be happy for once lol.
And a fully exploreable Insomnia is totally unrealistic @llazy77, it would be more realistic to get a new prologue for the game that allows you to do some of Noct's more princely activities before leaving insomnia, or maybe even an expanded dungeon there in chapter 14 or even post game, but the technology to load an entire city smoothly like that would take a long time.

Hell, I'd rather them just adapt KG and let us play as Nyx in Insomnia with a more linear story if it means we can get something substantial from that city. But to expect a fully exploreable insomnia with tons of replay and rewards there is going to make anyone wanting that disappointed.

Edit: Id like to see Insomnia regardless, so that way, you can actually feel for the destruction of the city by the end

I think it was in a Kotaku article where Tabata said they had to cut the invasion because it would have added a year of development, and they were on a stupidly unrealistic timeline to begin with. Ironically, now that they're supporting it 2 years after launch and the engine is complete, it *could* be added. But that would mean ret-conning all of a feature-length movie and the beginning of the game.

I still thinking adding the invasion in the game is a waste of resources, it could be an awesometastic setpiece...a setpiece that you would only play for like an1hs (2hs would be strenching and unrealistic, I don't know if a game with an hour long setpiece even exist) out of a 25hs-30hs long game.

I finally got around to finishing Comrades, but it seems that they kinda retconned the beginning of chapter 14.

They also retconned your first meeting with Shiva in the main game.

I believe there will be more retcons in the future tbh, so it’s possible.

Agree with the irony part though.

I'm sorta mixed on Episode Ardyn. I would preferred an entire game, but it is what it is. Adding back in character switching is mighty impressive.
Same. I really hope they take their time and make it truly spectacular to match his character.

They said they’re taking their time to ensure the quality of the DLC’s now, so for the first time since the game was released, they’re starting on a “clean slate” of sorts and can’t use development issues, time or budget as an excuse anymore.

This will be the true test of whether the development team can deliver an amazing experience all on their own without deadlines getting in the way.

I’m curious to see how this will go.

FFXV won the user choice awards and platinum prize at Playstation Awards 2017.
https://www.dualshockers.com/final-fantasy-xv-director-future-game/

Tabata's statement:

“The Platinum Prize and before the User’s Choice Award, we have received two wonderful awards. It’s a great honor. I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to all the users of Final Fantasy XV, all of you involved with PlayStation and everyone in the industry. Final Fantasy XV has three aspects: one is Final Fantasy XV the cutting-edge role-playing game. Then the user content of FFXV. Lastly, Final Fantasy XV as a continued service.

Final Fantasy XV has reached the one-year mark yesterday, and even today many users are still enjoying and playing the game. There are times when people criticize FFXV, so I don’t say that it will receive a 100% mark, but I think we were able to create a wonderful title.

However, times are changing and evolving. So together with our beloved PlayStation, I hope we can pursue a future game.”

I'm pretty sure it was estimated to be an additional three years of development time from that article.

the first image we got from Versus was Insomnia, and from a long time it was the only area representing the project.

in XV the story begins and ends there.

i think it would be very simbolic if Insomnia turned out to be the final DLC, at least for me; they could make a tie-in with more regis and kings of lucis lore.

It's kinda funny really. One of the only things that had been consistently there throught the 10 years was Insomnia(First trailer, Versus gameplay, E3 2013, 2014 tech demo, etc) and what do we get in the final game?

...Just a street in front of the citadel. I was so irritated when I got to that point. XD

For Insomnia alone? Hell no lol.
Tabata has stated that making Niflheim open world would double the production cost, not the production time though.
Thats not the source i'm talking about though, which the subject was actually centered on why a playable invasion wasn't gonna happen with current FFXV prior to release.

Depending on how much of the city would be made, it could take that long. GTAV is relatively a similar sized city as Insomnia. Just creating all the assets would take a year alone.

Tabata said:
From a story perspective we’d have to have both the game and the film, both of these together in one package, but realistically that’s not something we could have done in one game, it’s too much.

It’s very similar to the kind of decision we had to ask ourselves, OK do we spend another six years to develop that whole complete package as one game or do we spend three years to do it in the way that we’re doing now?

They could do the city life for Insomnia like how Persona 5 did Tokyo.

It was small but so vibrant, lively, and immersive at the same time.

As Weno said, they could show us more of Regis and the guys lives back in the day in Insomnia like this.

The thing is, even that would take as long as developing the entire city.

Why? The game starts as or after the invasion on Insomnia takes place. Insomnia as a ''hub'' has no significance to the progression of the story, besides the fact it's a wasteland. So then they would have to write an entire opening/prologue chapter. They could make it small and compact with a short sequence, but then what's the point? If they would halfass the job, then people would complain and if they try to make it something worthwhile, it'll take too long.

Realistically, it's not worth it to retcon the existing content already available. That said, I would love to see it, but I'd rather get something we haven't seen.
