I think they meant Midgar is disk one. The trailer showed inside ShinRa headquarters, which would be an end game thing if that was the full game. If that's all they really had to show until March, then that would be insane. Also Midgar 5 hours to complete. Unless this is a 20 hour game there isnt anyway they can really fill that much story in. The game is likely until Junon or Rocket Town.

It has been awhile since I've been here. Hope everyone has been well.

FF7R looks fantastic. Color me surprised that's releasing early next year. That came out of nowhere. It seems they learned their lesson to keep quiet and work to their hearts content and only reveal when they're sure.

Really liking the combat. Looks very fun and active. Seems like they're mixing action with turn based.

I do admit I am worried about the pacing of part one. One entire game only in Midgar? 20+ hours in one area can get tiring no?
Sup Jubileus. It's hard for me to say if they have learned their lesson. Remember this was still announced originally back in 2015. There may still be a pushback on the date between now and then. I agree with you on the combat, it does look cool for myself.

I like to think that all these years of silence means they were working diligently behind the scenes, and they chose to reveal this because they truly are ready.

The shitstorm if they delay the game after all these years of silence... phew...

Wow, if I'm being honest I wasn't fully sold on VII:R's gameplay, but this presentation really did. It looks awesome. A proper balance of being action-oriented but also strategic and tactical. Also slower paced gameplay option done right for people who wanted it.

The presentation aspect is also superb.
The only thing I'm a little disappointed is that this game is set to be in Midgar only. But I guess it would be unreasonable to ask more considering it takes up 2 discs as is.

The shitstorm from investors if SE fail to meet their quarterly guidance...The date may move, but not much I would think.

The game itself -- I appreciated they showed off the battle system, but I'm not sold on it just yet. I'm not sure that the Midgar section warrants its own (2 disc!) game, given how much left there is to cover. On the positive side, the banter in the localization was great. It seems like they're trying to capture the spirit of the original English localization while staying more connected to the original Japanese source. (I smiled at the "let's mosey" part. All we need now is the remake's Red XIII calling his father a "wastrel.")

the Midgar only bit could be a problem, in general FF always featured multiple regions so I wonder how much variety there is (can we explore the outskirts at least? that same setting for 40 hours could get tiring).. and how much gravitas there is in the story to carry an entire game during whats essentialy the beginning of the plot.

I, myself, am fine with the first part of the FFVII Remake being Midgar only, especially since we're getting more of Midgar itself, and other than additions and/or changes to the story, I'm expecting the same, but an evolved version of the FFVII story in this multi-part series, so I barely have any expectations towards the story, as I said, I played and beat FFVII's PS4 port, and I'm fine with this current structure as long as it's fun, and the combat already looks like so much fun. I'm also happy we got a release date for the first part. But I do understand what you mean, especially since this is all just my opinion. Though, if they keep Aerith alive or revive her somehow after her death, I wouldn't be happy about that, as I feel her death as essential to the story.

Jesus that looked nice!

I wouldn’t mind waiting another 10 years till 2026 if FFXV could’ve received this level of high quality from Nomura.

I like what I've seen of the combat, actually. Limiting magic and items to an ATB meter (it's a super meter, Square, be real with us here) is really smart (XV needed this really badly) and prevents you exploiting the systems they have in play.
I'm curious about the stagger system because it looks a little different to how XIII implemented it. There seems to be a max damage threshold rather than just a timer that brings the enemy out of it.

They're going to move plot elements around though, I'd imagine. Just from the trailer they've shown it looks very likely that Cloud could explain Sephiroth to the party (and have the flashback sequence) before they leave Midgar. (That scene with the reunion spirits floating around Aerith suggests they're introducing those elements of the story earlier potentially?)

Whether this is a net positive .... My only major concern is the inevitable sidequests and the potential to kill the great pacing that VII has. Both Lightning Returns and XV implemented them really poorly.

Fuck this looks soooo amazing. So we know that it's gonna be a timed ps4 exclusive. Do you think that the xbox version will come along with scarlet in q4 2020? I'm contemplating on buying a ps4 just for this game

Midgar has 8 sectors along with upper levels and lower levels for each of them. I think they can easily remedy the issue of having multiple distinct areas if they go all out on making the different sectors large enough and different enough to make it feel like no one place in the city is the same.

Further info. Their apparently planning out the second part of Remake at the moment.
Tell you the truth, I'm scared by this project now. If it becomes a flop at any point, they may end up ditching it and leaving it unfinished. They wouldn't be the first company to do that by a long shot.
Honestly, if Square was willing to stick with FFXIII by giving it two more sequels despite the negative feedback and diminishing returns then I don't think we have to worry about them abandoning the FFVII Remake. Especially since FFVII sells on its name alone at this point.

Different scenario. The sequels of XIII were developed to keep Final Fantasy as a brand in the know while recovering from Versus XIII delays and the disaster that was Final Fantasy XIV. Moreover, the orignal XIII actually was quite popular in Japan so a sequel only made sense. The mixed reception has only been in the West from what I recall.

Still, I don't see FFVII Remake not making enough money back to warrant sequels. Plus FF is Square's pride and joy with FFVII as its crowning achievement and I doubt they'll let it go to waste. Say whatever you want about Square but they at least have a sense of responsibility when it comes to finishing what they started (at least when it comes to FF) i.e. the two years of post launch support FFXV got and the total overhaul FFXIV got.

Ditching the project even if it did underperform (Why would it?) would be catastrophic for Square both in terms of brand power and from a financial perspective. It would be on a level on par with XIV's original release which nearly brought them under. Like say goodbye to AAA Final Fantasy titles scale bad.
Why is this even being discussed? It's a nonsense proposition.
