BTW, I really enjoyed the relaxing scenes where Nyx and the rest are hanging out in a very interesting district, eating and drinking. Well, beyond the hammy voice acting. I wish we had spent more time in these streets, as there were very interesting places there and the mix of fantasy and Western and Japanese realism (less Japanese now, though) is great.

It's interesting that the scenes I liked the most were precisely that one and the prologue one. Well, I also really enjoyed the scenes with Regis; you could tell just how fucking tired and old he is, despite only being around 40 or 50 years of age. The remaining scenes, well, not so much.

Oh, and could we actually meet Libertus in the game? I guess he could be mentioned at least. And I want to fight Glauca, although him being alive could diminish Nyx's sacrifice (a little bit, as he succeded in getting Luna, Libertus and the ring out safely, at least).

I remember reading somewhere that the Glaives won't be in the game... But since the Glaives are "extinct" now, maybe we could meet Libertus and hear a little about Nyx and the others. But I don't know, I feel that it won't be happening...

Maybe if the fans demand it enough their turn the Glaives into a DLC because Tabata said they want to create more content to the game post release. If this happen is a great chance to us to fight against Glauca in past battles.

Mmh, could be, yeah. I hope one of the DLCs/expansions is in regards to the Colosseum and makes it like the one in KH. I remember loving the hell out of the one of the first game when I was a kid, especially the bigger and harder battles. Actually, there is apparently one DLC that requires PS+ to function iirc, so some online element could be used.

Tabata said that Nyx would appear in the game in some form, or more like "his presence could be felt". I'm guessing we could encounter his ghost, although he isn't a king and that would seem to be the requirement to be part of the judging group of the ring. Maybe he's referring to a flashback, a callback or simply the fact that, thanks to him, the ring is safe: Luna could very well tell Noctis about Nyx.

Come to think about it, I'm actually curious about whether Noctis ever met Nyx. Kinda liked the character despite not being the most complex, original guy around.

Did anyone else feel Regis treated the glaives like shit?
They just seemed like expendables to him.

Is that what he wanted to begin with? A group of elites that he feels just because they were given safety and purpose within the wall should be grateful enough and accept death without anyone giving a care in the world about their exploits to protect Insomnia?

I mean, in that scene when they're in the elevator I expected Regis to be more sympathetic and personal with Nyx. I thought he'd but his hand on his shoulder and say something like "listen my son, you've done more than a king could ask of you but I require one last task...a task I can only entrust to those closest to me".

I actually had the idea in my head that Regis personally trained the glaives and spent some time with them as youngsters. Kinda made Regis seem like a selfish arsehole a bit if I'm honest.

EDIT: I guess it could be that with Regis being king he didn't have time to spend or personally train them.

You will.
....In flashback segments as kid/teen Noctis, right Sqaure? RIGHT?!?!
Remember Tabata said you cant explore Insomnia, he didn't say you couldn't explore Lucis. I dont think nifilhiem destroyed the entirety of Lucis so they should be some city areas there that are just fine. As for playable flashbacks that would be cool too.

Looking at the level of detail in Insomnia in Kingsglaive, there was never any chance a city that big could be included with free reign and stuff to do. That's just not realistic. We're talking about something monumentally huge.

I watched the movie today and I will leave a few impressions and my own thoughts, but nothing long winded like usual (I rant on for too much as it is, and I want to keep this short)

IMPRESSIONS
  • Critics who bashed the movie for only being useful if you're going to play the game I think are in the right (sort of). That being said, I think if you're looking at just an action film where the plot isn't too important for you, I think you can easily enjoy this movie.
  • Exposition wise I felt like it was somewhat lacking, but that mainly has to do with the time constraints of the movie. With a larger budget and a longer movie, they probably could have fit a few more things in there.
  • Overall the actual story that goes on within the movie is easy to follow albeit feeling a bit fast paced (again I believe it's a time issue here).
  • Lip syncing was pretty bad in some areas, but overall not a huge problem.
  • Voice acting I didn't have any problems with, I liked many of the voice actors in the movie.
  • The fight scenes are really cool, I don't know why people felt like they were lost at all trying to make sense of what was going on. I always knew what was happening and where they were going, etc.
  • By FAR one of the coolest scenes I've ever seen out of ANYTHING EVER was when the Stone Statues first came to life and one of them throws their sword and warps across the city. My throat dropped into my stomach, I was seriously blown away by how fucking awesome that was.
MOTIVES
  • Motives for rebel Glaives I feel like is actually completely understandable. The reason why it feels off for most people is likely due to how little they really explain the situation of who the Glaive are and where they come from to give you a reason to feel for them. Lucis encompasses the outlying regions of Insomnia and largely encompasses the continent its positioned on. This includes Leide, Duscae, Cleigne along with others I'm sure. Regis doesn't do much to aid anyone outside his own city, so people aren't happy with him. He gives up these areas freely to the empire and people are pissed. Not only that, but Insomnians inside the city seem to not like the immigrants. Knowing full well they can't fight against Niflheim, they instead rebel against the failing nation of Insomnia. I thought this was pretty straight forward and easy to understand for the movie's sake, I feel many people expressed that their motives didn't make sense, but I didn't share that sentiment watching the movie.
  • Motives for Drautos I would say are a bit mixed. Drautos has been a long standing traitor without much of an explanation. While he shares the same situation as the other Glaives, he has taken it leaps and bounds beyond any of the Glaives, and has been doing so for quite some time. I don't have a problem for this though, as I honestly assume that we'll get the backstory for Drautos in the game instead.
  • As for the possibility of Drautos being able to be two important figures at once, you have to understand that Drautos for the Glaives doesn't seem to actually do much fighting, and he's likely not needed very often for Niflheim. I don't see it being impossible for him to play both roles, especially considering how often he's out of the front lines, and how much more focused Regis is on other matters. Drautos sort of goes unchecked and is allowed to get away with whatever he wants.
  • The Glaives turning on each other to me makes a lot of sense, they basically have given up all allegiance to the King and are now fighting for their homes and see the other Glaives that are still aligned to the king as traitors to their homeland.
CHARACTERS
  • Nyx is a really cool character, would have liked to know more of his back story. I'm fully expecting him to take some form in the game, perhaps being immortalized in the Ring of Lucii since he was granted their power after all. Tabata did say we would see him in some form, I imagine this could be it.
  • Libertus was a good character as well, would have liked for him to have more screen time. Again, the movie's length for the amount of content was a factor in a lot of problems. His motives for initially rejecting the King made sense, but he realizes what truly matters at the end and I'm glad.
  • Regis was lovely to see, I can't wait to see more of his scenes in flashbacks in the game. The scene in the signing ceremony with the weapons drawn where Regis puts up the barrier made a lot of sense as someone else pointed out. The weapons drawn are a bit like a deterrent, but once the magitek soldiers drop in a fuck things up, they need to act quickly. Seeing Regis get stabbed and shoved aside was so sad. At least he still lives on in the ring...
  • Drautos was fucking menacing as all hell. Seeing him rip through the few of the royal guards around Regis like they were made out of paper was great, definitely a terrifying image to see him with his sword.
  • Claurus while not given much screen time, was nice to see. It was nice to see him and Regis talk about the good old days before trying to fight back. It was awful seeing him impaled by his own sword on the wall, I really felt for him and Regis there. I can imagine when Noctis and Gladio return to Insomnia they're going to see their dead fathers and it's going to be horrifying.
  • Ravus as many people have mentioned was pretty lacking in all character. He seemed like a bumbling idiot in a way, and doesn't have any grip on reality. I fully expect more backstory and substance for him in the actual game though.
  • Luna I saved for last because I have a bit to say about her. There's definitely something more to her character than meets the eye. People are looking at it one dimensionally and not really paying attention to what she says. Regis mentions to her about her "fate" before she really makes much mention of it. Later in the film she also expresses that she has a "duty to fulfill" and how she's "not afraid of death". I feel like Luna has something she's hiding in the movie about her character and what sort of role she plays in the universe. It's not just that she's an Oracle, but I can't really say what it is. Her jumping out of the airship for example is something that shows she has confidence in what she's doing. I've seen criticisms of this as in her just being stupid, but she mentions that "I'm not afraid of death I'm afraid of not doing anything". What she means by this, is that she knows what role Noctis plays in the future of this world, and that if she does nothing that everything can fall apart. As for her jumping out potentially to her death, I'm fairly certain she would have made it onto the platform anyways from how she jumped. Despite this, I believe she might have known that Nyx would have went after her anyways, and this was the only way to force his hand. Again, there's something more to Luna than we see. Look at how the past Kings mention the future and the larger picture of the future. This is something that Luna understands as well as Nyx (something people on here don't seem to understand though kek). There is this common theme though that there's clearly more to the story with Luna, future events and Niflheim than what meets the eye. Something is definitely up with Luna though... Overall, I really loved seeing her in the movie, she was never a damsel in distress either, as I'm sure many people would love to say. Yes, she was captured, but it wasn't for the sake of saving, it was to get rid of the Glaives.
CONCLUSION

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie a lot. I've seen some really bad impressions from some people, and really good impressions from others. What this tells me, is that some people are likely going into this movie expecting it to be more than what it is. If you see this as sort of prequel like cinematic for XV, I think you will enjoy the movie a lot more. It doesn't really stand on its own... then again... it's not supposed to. Neither was Advent Children... I think people forget that.

The movie certainly got me excited for the game even more, and I'll definitely watch the movie again even just for the Stone Statue sequence alone, god good that was fucking incredible.

If I had to give the movie a rating, I'd probably give it a 7.5/10.

Definitely worth watching if you are looking forward to XV or you're just into action. If you're looking for a blockbuster film, you're in the wrong neighborhood. Things that would have given it a higher score would be honestly a longer film with more story exposition and cleaning up the lip syncing.

Luna theory from Kingsglaive, ties into the game. Pure speculation, but I will spoiler tag it just in case. Mainly because it actually makes sense, but it also makes some bits of KG make sense as well:

Luna "does not fear death" and jumps out of the plane without a parachute because she knows when she will die, and it involves a prophecy that she, Regis and probably Ardyn are aware of and completely buy into it.

In other words, even Luna knows she's going to die in-game. And knowing when she WILL die means she knows she doesn't have to fear death now. So she proved it by jumping out of a plane. This makes more sense than I'm making it sound, lol.

My guess is this information was also shared with Nyx, and this is why all of a sudden he was willing to summon a bunch of giants to come in and destroy pretty much all of Insomnia just to get Luna out of the city with the ring.

It's strange to see a "spoiler tag" in a SPOILER thread :cactuar:

But your speculation makes sense I think. Luna knows about the future because she is the oracle and believe in her duty without any doubts.
This could explain much of her actions in the movie... Like jumping of the plane.

But we need to wait and see because Luna don't see to know everything - like Glauca motivations and such. Or... would be great tho if Luna knew eveything, including Regis death but can't interfere because it's part of the future they need.

Luna can be a very deep character.

I put the tags on because it would be a game spoiler, not a movie spoiler.

But as for her not knowing about Glouca, that wouldn't matter. She doesn't know the details leading up to it. She'd just know where she's going to be at this certain, very important point in time. Hence, the jumping out of the plane. She wouldn't know HOW she's going to survive it. All she would have to know is how she WILL die, and it's not here.

Yeah, I thought about Nyx's presence being him staying as an spectre on the ring, but my doubt is: would the kings allow a pleb in their cicle? I guess he could manifest in other ways, though.

I'm expecting some emotional scenes where Noctis is all fucked up from battle and Regis' spirit or whatever you wanna call it helps him stand up. Basically this:

I guess this could be just a random concept art and not be in the game, though.

And indeed, I had forgotten about it: Clarus' death was pretty sad, especially for the fact that he wasn't even able to put on a fight. He died so quickly, man.

I hope Noctis and Gladio's reactions to their fathers' deaths are well done. Which is why I kinda want Glauca in the game.

I CAN FINALLY ENTER THIS THREAD! \o/

Just gone done watching Kingsgliave. I enjoyed it, and I'm now looking forward to the game even more. I didn't think the writing was as bad as some people are saying, and even the voice acting was ok. Apart from Libertus. His VA wasn't great. I thought it led in to the game well and there were some great action sequences and emotional scenes. I was pretty shocked that they killed off Crowe so early in the film, and I was kind of hoping that she would make it in to the game in someway but clearly that won't be happening now.

I forgot to mention her character in my post, so I'll just say something breifly here. One member on these forums in particular criticized her death saying that they "fridge'd" her character and somehow that has to do with her being female or something. Just in case you didn't watch the movie or something... pretty much EVERY Glaive dies, most of them being betrayed by others. Crowe isn't some exception or special case for this... not sure why it needs to be mentioned explicitly as if "they killed off the only female Glaive" is somehow relevant when they killed ALL OF THEM.

Funny thing is that Libertus probably is the only Glaive alive. And since their powers comes from the King and the King is dead... All Glaives are actually "extinct".

had a great time watching Kingsglave (thanks Ilazy for the link); I think the movie had its share of problems, but considering this is Nozue's first movie the end result was quite good.

my impressions:

- although the movie jumps from scene-to-scene really fast sometimes, I never felt it was troubling my understanding of the plot; didn't find the action to be hard to follow at all.
- surprisingly Luna was ok? I think she did fine.
- so many unnecessary "hero" lines and "I need to protect the future", I mean goddamn this is not XIII-2 lol.
- apart for some cringy dialogue here and there, what really bothered me was some of the voices and lip-sync.
- ultros sounds were so bizarre, weird, yet terrifying; they nailed his "realistic" version imo.
- the ost was good overall, the prologue theme is beautiful.
- movie needs more credit not for the amazing CG work, but for the stellar art direction.
- i loved the Versus XIII nods; the party scene could be a bit longer, there's Reaper statues in the movie, one in the city and one on Nyx's desk;
- Glauca was an awesome villain. Ravus was... a comic relief? lol
- the Knights of the Round omg nyx could do some real shit with the ring, which only hyped me for the game.

overall I think the movie deserves a 7 or even 8, I'll def watch again.
