Now it's "Extra Edition", "Super Edition", "Deluxe Edition", "Complete Edi-" oh wait, not quite, now "Complete Edition".
I wouldn't inherently say this is a more modern thing. More like it's just being done by more companies. Capcom has a long running history of making multiple versions of the same numbered fighting game for Street Fighter.

More to the point, Squenix has been selling International Editions of Final Fantasy games since FFVII (and Final Mixes/Re:makes of KH games since that series began). FFXV's piecemeal patching is actually an improvement over having to buy the full game again a year later for relatively modest improvements.

(The only instance of an International/Final Mix version that made the same degree of improvements as FFXV's Royal Edition was KHII's Final Mix+, which included a full PS2 Re:make of a former GameBoy Advance exclusive, a number of necessary additional cutscenes and a meticulously-tuned Critical Mode. FFXII's is probably the second closest given its extensive combat changes, but it left the scenario alone.)

Can we agree that the Royal Edition is the best DLC we have gotten for FFXV so far.

The Royal update has completely changed the final chapter.

Insomnia feels like a real town now, the side quest are fun, and now there are 6 final bosses instead of 2.

While the other DLC have added lore and backstory to the game. I feel like the formula they been using, a stand alone 2 hour episode, just doesn't add much to the core experience. Meanwhile, the Royal Editions formula of expanding on main story chapters has such a bigger impact than all the other DLC.

Definitely agree. This was such a cool addition and I'm glad they solidified the ending that much more. Now they can focus on other parts of the game.

Anyway, to help this, all those epsodes need are just prompts to play them within the game. Have the game ask you to save, quit and load an episode DLC at the right moments. I know they'd have to prevent you from seeing Ignis's visions in his Episode, as well as the post credits scene (which could easily be put at the end), but doing this would make those episodes feel at home in chapters 8,9, and 13.

Maybe that's just me though. I hope they in the least give us the prompts to do so.

This and a proper rebalance of leveling are my 2 most requested features now (well, also a hard mode)

I'd love a hard mode, I never once felt like I was in danger of dying in the main game(Until Omega came along), They need to add some kind of cooldown on using items so that you can't just spam them.

Also I thought Episode Gladio would be easy to add, just have it activate at the first camp you rest at anytime after chapter 7, or have a prompt that when you go close to the dungeon it takes place in that Gladio will pull you aside and tell you what happened there. As for the speed runs of the dungeon, just have an npc standing at the entrance offering a time attack. Episode Prompto could be easily popped during chapter 13, when you discover Promptos secret. Episode Iggy would be the hardest to implement I think.

I only recently discovered that lore-wise potions and stuff in FFXV are apparently just regular soda that gain healing properties via the power of kings. Think a good solution to items with this in mind would be to make them cost MP. Managing your MP usage between your items and warping could get tricky fast.

I'm still trying to figure this out, so correct me if I'm wrong. But this is what I've learned so far about the Regalia in regards to the Royal update:

In order to use the Regalia in Insomnia, you need to complete all the Regalia side quest.

I'm using a new save file, where I haven't beaten the story. In chapter 14, I used Umbra to go back to past Lucis and complete all the Regalia side quest available to me. Yet Telcott hasn't shown up.

The pretty sure the only Regalia side quest I haven't done is the Type-F quest, which I can't do during the story mode, since the Type-F is post game exclusive.

In order to test this, I decided to log into a chapter 15 save file [where I have already completed the Regalia Type-F side quest], and surprisely Talcott was in Insomnia on this save file.

So I'm assuming this means; You are able to unlock the Regalia Type-D in the story mode, around chapter 8. But you can't unlock the Replica Regalia in the story mode, but rather only in post game Chapter 15.

Is that right? Or am I missing something.

The scary part is each dlc have been improving in quality and looks like the next ones are going to be even better, because the lack of time constraints and the way they're going to be implemented.

Damn, i'm excited. I wonder if they will keep with the monthly updates.

They say there isn't time constraints, but everything has a deadline. It probably will just mean more time to polish.

I don't have the answer. But it's easy to assume. If you did the mission in Lucis about getting 4 giant wheels to unlock the Type-D, but Talcott still doesn't show up in Insomnia during Capter 14. Then it mean's the Regalia in Insomnia only is unlockable in Chapter 15, as Type-F does in Lucis.

Another thing.
The Ring of Lucii have been nerfed. Now you take a little longer to drain the enemies and using Alterna in some enemy doesn't absorb them.
Good news.

Sure its not just related to the commercial itself?

Checked the RE announcement trailer on the SE JPN account and it had much more likes compared to dislikes, either way i wouldn't get hung up over it for now.
