Nier Automata is a great game, as much as FFXV is a great game. Both has it's ups and downs.
I remember reading. Kosucku (Kotaku) article about how the FFXV UI is rudimentary, but the UI in Nier Automata is even more worse than FFXV (yet no one talks about that). The world map menu is probably one of the worst I've seen and it's a hassle to navigate through, specially having to open the menu to access the map, not only that, you can't even zoom out completely. So you are always stuck with a small portion. Game runs at 60FPS, but not constantly. Network Features turned on will actually cause the frame rate to go haywire at times and it's more noticeable for me personally. Draw distance is crap. Textures look shitty in more places than one. AI partner glitches every (though they tp back to you instantly). It has a variety of issues that not even FFXV has. Story is quite generic, personally for me, the story was more of a... ''soooo didn't see that coming... (sarcasm)''.
Don't get me wrong, I love the game. I haven't touched FFXV since I put in Nier. But I did feel a lot of aspects from FFXV that I missed while playing Nier. Like random lively banters, a lot of the small things like that (I miss the map navigation). But the game is hella fun.
So what's my point? Nier As a series was always average or below, it was never amazing. Not many people had much expectations for this game, that's why most people don't hassle each other with it's issues unlike FFXV. Automata turned out great, with a few technical dips, but the hurdle to jump for the series was never high, or maybe there was never a hurdle to start with. Unlike FF, which set it's bar back in 97, being a longer running series, people tend to complain more with games like that.
Automata has as much issues as FFXV has, some the same, some even worse, yet none of them are being picked up on a wider spectrum like FFXV is going through.
